QUOTE(jOlDMaN @ Oct 25 2005, 17:26) Hey Mosarella! :) I know you are doing a great job! I also know that I might seem redundant. But... Is there any chance for txt support in DVP720? I mean MicroDVD format, so it's the same as sub. I am not the only one who's got lotsa movies with MicroDVD subtitles. The only thing is they're not sub but txt.
I'd appreciate letting me know what you think about this problem. Is it solvable in any way?
I have been trying to solve this, but not found a solution yet. BR Lee

QUOTE(sprogo @ Oct 25 2005, 17:32) Hello Moseralla, I am asking too much but I would be appreciated if you answer my questions: I am going to update my 720sa/00 (I think it is 00) with your v2.02. 1)Which one of v2.02 I should use? 2) Where can I get this "dvp720sa_02_fus_eng.bin"? Here another question if my players stroke code is 00, Should I download "dvp720sa_ 00_fus_eng.bin" instead of above one? 3) What do you mean that file never been converted? Is it unconverted in original place ? 4)Can I use the info mentioned below for serial connection and uploading firmware? How to recover a dead player using an serial cableThanks in advance My fw and servo info is as following; MADv33.03 720-00 2 13 servo=03150000 region=0 Dear Lee-Mosarella, thank you for the really great job! Now I try to make my 720th also DVD-audio compatible and I have the same questions and fw/hw/servo like Sprogo. Could you please send me the help-PM too? Thank you in advance! Alexei

Hey Mosarella,Lee and others I had already upgade my Philips 720/SA 02 with the latest firmware from LEE DVP720_V37_LEE_V2.02 But after the upgrade I realised that I can't use different name for subtitles and movie name. Does any body can play srt and avi with different names? I 'm use that pioneer 575 can do this with the latest version of Gufiak. Can we have resume in divx movies? Thanks in advance

I don't know a thing about disassembling this software, but in my opinion- the thing is to change supporting sub into txt. I mean it's the same format. We only need to change this software to read txt instead of sub. Any chances ?

I already did. Here it is: http://metepe.divxplanet.net/DVP720_V37_LE..._202_MeTePe.zipThere are a few minor changes.. Users must adapt them for their preferences. 1. Divx subtitle Fonts Baltic and Greek are changed for bigger Turkish fonts. 2. Player can play avi with subtitle with different names but file extentions must bu correct i.e. SUB if it is sub, SRT if it is SRT. 3. Max. # of subtitles of a kind (sub, srt, ssa, smi) is limited to 10 (40 in total) in a directory. 4. Subtitles can be selected by pressing subtitle button on RC. They are not shown on the browser. 5. Many movies and subtitles in the root directory causes confusion, so prefer burning movies and their subs in directories. 6. If you are happy with Lee's 2.02, just take ARM 2 block from the above firmware and implant it to the other one by MtkRemaker. I don't know much about Arm programing.. I just followed the lead by Gufiak and Exsport. But it works. Thanx to Lee and all the other people who provide those great firmwares to us by their work. Best Wishes..

Hi Mosarella99,
I tried to patch volume up and down (0x57 and 0x58) to the RC button tables but it doesn't seem to work. As far as I see, Lx3900 and 720sa have very similar softwares.. Is this function not supported for 720sa or is there a prohibit or something? When I press the volume up key I see hand sign only.
Best wishes..

@mosarella99: I've now installed your firmware 2.02 on my DVP720SA/00 (old servo) and I just got to say THANK YOU!!! :D This is so great, at last my player remembers I want analogue stereo out, I can easily switch between SACD 5.1/Stereo, I can play the SACD CD layer etc!!!
Now I just have some "minor" wishes... :newblush:
1) Make it remember to play SACD stereo by default (now it remembers the CD or SACD 5.1 layer, so I guess SACD stereo should be possible too?) 2) Make the "disc" text on turn-on shorter, now you have to wait a while before it starts to load (just as always) 3) Make SACD CD text possible 4) Make it possible to view CD Text in the player display anytime during a track by pressing some button. Also, it'd be great if the order of the info was changed to Title / Artist / Album - as it is now you have to view the album and artist on every track before viewing the title even if all tracks are by the same artist/album! (Silly Philips...)
2 small comments: > Sometimes the player display says "Dolby PL II" when inserting a CD Audio I haven't played before, does that mean the output isn't pure stereo? Next time I put in the same CD it says "stereo". > When I set the display to 40% it isn't turned off.
Again - MANY THANKS! :coolspeak:

@mosarella99;
Before I start the praise, I just want to tell you all that in my 720SA/02 DVD-Audio works fine after a regular CD-flash, I've never opened up my player.
With that said, let the praise begin: Thank you, thank you, thank you. My DVD-player is full-featured (well.. It lacks ogg and flac support, but hey, it's ok, I have other things for those :) ). *aaaaawesome* work!!
And btw did I say thank you? :)

@guttergod: Do you mean it plays DVD-Audio with just the firmware update from a CD-R?! I tried that too (with DVD-Audio mode in settings) and it detected there was a DVD-A disc but then nothing happened so I got back to DVD-Video mode.

Yepp, that's what I mean. I don't know if it plays *all* DVD-Audio titles though, it works on my experimental home-brewed ones anyway, and that is exactly what I need. :) These are the infos from my player (for you curious fellas...) The Packed Bitstream problem was solved in the targa-firmware. Maybe someone could copy that part of code and make it work for the 720sa? http://www.divxtest.com/article.php3?id_article=93

Oh another small wish: When I play an SACD and the disc has come to the end the last track remains selected so if I want to play again from the beginning I just can't press "Play", would be nice if I could (I could before I installed your firmware).

Hi Lee,
Thank you for great work! :coolspeak: I'm using DVP720_V37_LEE_V2.02 firmware on my DVP720 and it works very nice. Many thanks for switching off multichannel !!!! (it was really annoying to turn it off every time you put new CD-Audio into the player).
I think that I found a small bug in the v.2.02. When you set Stereo mode in <Setup menu><audio setup><analog output> and start playing DVD-VIDEO or DivX, then you cannot change this mode with RC button "Surround". Stereo is the only possible mode to choose. The problem above does not exist wen you set other mode in <Setup menu><audio setup><analog output> ("Virual surround" or "Multichannel"). Then RC button "Surround" works properly and it is possible to switch between all audio modes.
Regards.

Hi, This is not a bug. :) When selecting stereo from SETUP menu, the surround button is de-activated to make the player always stay in stereo mode. If you are connecting the player digitaly to a surround system, or you don't have a surround system, this is the best selection. The analog stereo output will then always be in stereo mode on your TV loudspeakers. In this situation you don't need the surround mode, because it is only affecting the analog surround outputs. The Digital output will not be affected If you set multichannel in SETUP menu, the surround button will be enabled again. This is best mode to use if your player is connected with analog connections to analog 5.1 inputs on a surround system. BR Lee

Yes, it means you can upgrade your DVD-S657 and get major improvements. With spin-offs, I just mean that as a result of my work with DVP720, I also made fw for these other players, which is based on same hardware platform. BR Lee

Hello Lee,
I have just finished upgrading process to the latest firmware with a great care of following your instructions step by step. Everything was quite easy and completed without any problem.
1) "dvp720sa_02_fus_eng" (sent by you) has been used for serial updating, 2) "DVP720_V37_LEE_V010_202_MeTePe-1" has been used for cd upgrade for DVD-A and other implementations. 3) Player version matrix has been programmed again with 9-9-9-9-audio-1 key combinations (my player is 720sa-00).
These are my basic testings:
CD audio: good SACD : good DVD-video: good Div-x: good mp3: good
But for DVD-Audio I am a bit confused; From the setup menu if I choose DVD-Video, I can listen and watch the DVD-Video layer of the DVD-A. IF I choose DVD-Audio from setup menu, when I load a DVD-A, player shows it is a DVD-A in tv screen and DVD in its own LCD screen. It plays nothing but after a while, I noticed that screen track numbers changing by time, but time indicator stays as 000 constantly in its LCD screen although there is no sound and/or video output received.
So, everything works correctly except DVD-A playing. Do you have any idea if I did something wrong? Or any clue to solve this problem?
Regards ilker

Hi, The problem is most likely caused in step 1 or 2 in your upgrade process. In step 1, you must use the original file I sent you (dvp720sa_02_fus_eng.bin), and do a serial upgrade with MtkTool v1.31. Do not convert or save the file I sent to you into CD upgrade format. In step 2, try my V2.03 version in stead. And this must be done with a CD upgrade. If you upgrade your player with serial at this step, you will not get the DVD-AUDIO mode working (like the problem you have) If you ever need a serial update of your player, always use the file I sent you. This file is putting in some information into the FLASH that is needed for DVD-AUDIO. Any serial upgrade with other firmware will erase this information. Hi Lee, I used the original file which was sent by you for serial update with Mtktoll v1.29 ( as v1.31 has some problems - look: http://hb.septem.cz/Doc/Mediatek/mediatek/ ) for step-1. After serial update I checked the setup menu of player but there is not any indication for DVD-A in any place. I did second step of update process with a cd with your V2.02 f/w modified by MeTePe. I am going to do it again with your v2.03. I hope only second step will be enough to fix the problem. B.regards ilker QUOTE(mosarella99 @ Nov 19 2005, 22:54) Hi,

If you ever need a serial update of your player, always use the file I sent you. This file is putting in some information into the FLASH that is needed for DVD-AUDIO. Any serial upgrade with other firmware will erase this information.

QUOTE(dvdwannabe @ Nov 20 2005, 00:35) I've tried everything to upgrade my Yamaha S550 to the 657 firmware via CD. Every time I get Unreadable CD. Does anyone have directions they have used that DO work?
If you use this firmware, you will get the same result. This fw is based on the DVD-S657. http://board.softpedia.com/index.php?act=A...ype=post&id=412BR Lee

QUOTE(sprogo @ Nov 20 2005, 03:36) After serial update I checked the setup menu of player but there is not any indication for DVD-A in any place.
This is correct. There should be no visible change to the original Philips V37, but there is now information in the flash that will be used by LEE V2.03 fw (after CD upgrade) to enable DVD-AUDIO. If you like to check that step 1 is OK, you can do a backup of the player with MtkTool after you have programmed with the file I sent you. Save the backup as a new serial file, and view it in a HEX editor. At address 0xFFF00, there should be hex values different from FF (256 bytes in total). The values will start with 76 33 ... and end with D1 74 (at address 0xFFFFE .. 0xFFFFF). If this is correct, you have success with step 1. BR Lee

If you don't need DVD-AUDIO, you can upgrade with CD-upgrade. Use V2.03 BR Lee
