I found this solution for the films burned with a subtitle differently named, but its in spanish and I don´t have the time to translate it now. Its not what you think of choose a subtitle and run it, but it isn´t so complicated. Hope helps you:

It works for me, and after you created the small avi (a 1 or 2 Mb file would be perfectly ok) it's easy to keep adding the subtitles on a CD... ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hola Gebris, te funcionó este método? Ok, I will translate the guide... (It's just a simple solution to people who owns lots of CDs with movies and subtitles with different filenames and can't afford to re burn all those movies again. It's not the best method -that would be selecting the subs directly in the dvd filebrowser-, but it works) I guess we can call this guide "HOW TO OPEN SUBTITLES FROM ANOTHER CD - By Juan M. Araújo"... :) What you'll need: 1) The CD/DVD with the movie (the one you can't load the subtitles)... 2) Another CD to put the new subtitles (it could be an empty disc or an open multisession disc, or a rewritable too) 3) VirtualDub (any version will do. i.e. VirtualDubMod, Nandub, VirtualDub MPEG, etc.) 4) (optional) Subtitle Workshop Ok, first open any playable movie (playable on your DVP5100, of course!) with VirtualDub. Select DirectStreamCopy (both audio and video), then cut most of the movie out (delete) leaving just a few seconds (15-30 secs, for example). Now save that with the name you want. i.e. "movie.avi" (it would be better to keep this file on your HDD)... Copy the subtitle (from the CD with the movie) to your hard disk. (Now it'd be a good time to check the sub for errors and remove the tags -italics and bold-). Rename the short avi clip and the sub with the same name. It's not necessary to be the same name that the original movie. For example: the original movie filename is "Dude, where's my car.avi", but the clip and sub names could be " Dude.avi" and " Dude.srt". Now just burn that and leave the disc session open so you can add more subtitles later. Just clone and rename the short avi clip for each subtitle you must burn... You might end in the CD with someting like this: CODE Dude.avi  <-- The short clip you created Dude.srt Skeleton.avi  <-- The same short clip you created, different filename Skeleton.srt ... ... Batman.avi  <-- Still the same short clip you created Batman.srt
Now, turn on the DVP5100 and insert the CD with the new subtitles. Browse and load the movie you're planning to watch (For example I'm planning to watch the CD with the "Dude, where's my car.avi" movie, so I'll load the "Dude.avi" clip). The short clip will display on your TV, let it play or stop it after a seconds, the important thing is let the DVD load the subs into its memory. -This is important: Do not turn off the DVD or the sub will be erased from the memory- Eject that CD and load the original one. Play the movie... Voilá! You have subs with your movie now... That's better than reburning all your movies because, since the avi clip is so small (a couple of MBs) you can use only one CD to save lots of subtitles.... Hope that works for you (it has always worked for me)!!! PS: Hope this is not confusing 'cause my english is not so good. Thanks Gebris to bringing this topic here (see you on subdivx.com.ar, man!) And thanks to Umbanda Violento for his brilliant work!!! :coolspeak:

The download is working ok, maybe you never use rapidshare  , here u can read how to use it... :P http://readyouth.blogspot.com/2005/03/how-...rapidshare.htmlRight Now the cyrillic font are not working, maybe i fix that in the future. Umbanda´s firmware Ver 4.015/11/2005 + Support for Packet Bitstream :clapping: + The file browser now display 22 characters (8 more) + Some icons and colours changed. - Only one font to select. :ermm: * Now you can view the subtitle name in file browser. You can´t select.... :scratchchin:

Thanks a lot. Am I going to have problems if I use this firmware by simply renaming into DVP5100__02, because my player version is not 69 as your firmware update is? P.S. I’m expecting Cyrillic update and thanks for that. Miso

Maybe, the 5100k/78 (DVP5100_69) works with the DVP5100_02 firmware, but the video out is changed, and the karaoke doesnt work. In previus post some guy mention that the ver 3.1 works in the 02. So i think that the 4.0 will work ok, and if not i´m pretty sure that you can downgrade to the original 02 firmware.

Umbanda_violento:
Can You help me modifying 5100_02 firmware? As you remember some time ago I made some modifications (subtitles, backgrounds, icons etc.)
I am interested in two things:
1. Support for Packet Bitstream
2. The file browser now display 22 characters (8 more)
How to do this? Is it possible to extend file browser to display yet more characters?
When you have some time, please make a little tutorial, how you do this ok?
Thanx a lot in advance! :)

Hi Sauron, why don´t you use my firmware? have you try it with your player (02)? Its the easiest thing to do, if you need a different codepage, I can replace the fonts if you tell me what codepage you need.

Hi :) Because I am afraid that it won't work properly (not because of your work but because of firmware from different model). I would like to have Polish menu and Polish codepage and also three sizes of subtitles (like in my modded firmware). Is it possible to extend more - filenames length in the browser? I can replace the fonts (no problem) but what about OSD language, can I replace one of languages in your firmware with Polish? If it is not so hard, plase tell me how you changed such things like packedbitstream and length of filenames. If it is few minutes of work for you, maybe you can change such things in 5100_02? Thanx for your help :) Sauron

But if you want to make big changes like i do, you WILL NEED A SERIAL CABLE. Then you can try my firmware first.

Hi Umbanda, I tried Your firmware with my 5100_02 player. After the upgrade, the screen was in monochrome (with yellow color). You wrote, the video mode is changed, I think this is the reason.

Try changing the video mode pal->ntsc, ntsc->pal. if still getting the same. Try changing the video out, plug your rca (the one that goes to TV, (yellow)), to all others. (see attachment). Of course, this only works if you´re NOT using scart... :P

I see... The best way I think is to do the same for original 5100_02. Can you explain how to extend the file browser? maybe this is not so hard to do? Do I need to change assembler code? Sauron

Thanks Umbanda, but I use scart with my player. I tried the pal->ntsc, ntsc->pal switch, but is not solved the problem. I agree with Sauron, would be implementing the new functions to the 5100_02 firmware. I should be very appreciate if You do this.

I don't know if I understand Umbanda well, I think he could do this but he cannot check if it works well (ha has only 5100_69). Somebody who has 5100_02 with serial cable could help us... (if something goes wrong - he can return to original firmware, we can't)

Does a firmware upgrade exist for the dvp5100/05 that supports Packet Bitstream?
If not, can someone make one?
My last divx/xvid player was crappy and the video jerked all the time. Having just upgraded and found the same problem, I'd be devo'd if I have to re-encode all my divx/xvid stuff...
Can someone please help me out?

Maybe there is only one thing to do - copy and paste some fragment of fw from one to another? Did you replaced 8032_1 code from another dvp? or you used IDAPro?

Hi Mam ... WoW it looks cool, i´ll test it this night ...
And thanks again for the small yellow ones :P - you´re a genius boy - next release maybe you can make the user a way to select the subs from different names to the files, like it is on LG and Pionner mods.

Someone please fix the Packed Bitstream problems. This jerky playback is damn annoying and I don't want to re-rip everything to cd/dvd again -- it'll cost me a fortune.
Someone smarter than me make a fix already. :cursing:

This unit, to be exact. Umbanda unfortunately has 5100_69, so he can only modify firmware for this model. It is not possible to modify firmware and not to have 02 or 05 physically...
