This is the Mtz firmware logo:

(IMG:http://img86.exs.cx/img86/6203/Yamada_1250_v1-2_Mtz.jpg)

How are subtiltes made by Mtz compared to TV Stations?

TV Stations:

Example 1. Acasa Romanian TV Station
(IMG:http://img117.exs.cx/img117/856/AcasaTV.jpg)

Example 2. Animal Planet TV Station
(IMG:http://img117.exs.cx/img117/5200/AnimalPlanetTV.jpg)

Example 3. Discovery Channel TV Station
(IMG:http://img117.exs.cx/img117/103/DiscoveryTV.jpg)

DivX Subtitles on Your Player:

Example 1. Big Subtitle
(IMG:http://img117.exs.cx/img117/3415/BigSubtitle.jpg)

Example 2. Small Subtitle
(IMG:http://img117.exs.cx/img117/9256/SmallSubtitle.jpg)

Example 3. Big Subtitle
(IMG:http://img117.exs.cx/img117/3980/BigSubtitle2.jpg)

Example 4. Small Subtitle
(IMG:http://img117.exs.cx/img117/9471/SmallSubtitle2.jpg)

Please don't ask why I have the subtitle at the bottom of tv screen.
In the screenshots I used an 16:9 movie and my Wide Screen (16:9) TV was set to "CINE" mode.

.
.
.
.
BURNING CD:
In attachments you'll find some .iso's. Burn that .iso file (with nero for example) and this settings: Disc At Once, Finalize CD. Write the CD at speed 4x.

UPGRADING:
1. Turn on the player, and open the disc tray.
2. Put the Firmware Update Disc on the tray, and close the tray.
3. A screen will be displayed inviting you to push the "play" button to start the update.
4. The player will load the data, and the tray will open again. Remove the Firmware Update Disc from the tray now. Leave the tray open. The update process will complete in few minutes.
5. Wait until the update process finishes and the DVD logo is shown on the screen.

Attention: DO NOT unplug the power cable or turn off the player during the update process.

enjoy,
Mtz

== Tested on my player ==

3 Firmwares:

1. Yamada_1250_v4_Mtz. Firmware suitable for this languages:
English, Croat, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, Slovak, Slovene and Serbian.
The latest firmware is HERE.
(718 downloads when updated.)

2. Yamada_1252_v3_Mtz. Firmware suitable for this languages:
Albanian, Danish, Dutch, English, Faroese, Finnish, French, German, Icelandic, Irish, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish.
(897 downloads when updated to V6.)

3. Yamada_1251_v3_Mtz. Firmware suitable for this languages:
Bulgarian, Belorussian, English, Macedonian, Moldavian, Russian, Serbian and Ukrainian. (moldavians don't read and write in romanian ? :D )
(112 downloads when updated.)

_____________________

What's new:

1. Now you can choose between two sizes for subtitles: Big and Small
- the small subtitle font is with the default grey background (that is needed for readable subtitles) and support up to 50 characters/subtitle line
- the big subtitle font is without grey background and support up to 44 characters/subtitle line. The size is similar from television programs and DVD movies.

2. How can you choose between this sizes of subtitles? From the Menu, of course!
Insert the CD, press Setup and go to Preferences > Subtitles Size.

3. Menu translations updated for the languages code pages 1250 & 1252.

4. (in .v3) Removed that BIG "E" from Subtitles Size > Big E Subtitle.
Solved few bugs from OSD Menu (English and Romanian).

5. Added support for Slavonic Cyrillic (Code Page 1251) language.

Download the firmware for your language to see the subtitles and the menu in your language displaying correct !

Subtitles characteristics in the present firmware:
The big font can display up to 44 characters/line and the size is very similar to movie subtitles of TV Stations. Maximum 2 lines. No annoying grey background! :coolspeak:

The small font can display up to 50 characters/line and the size is small compared to movie subtitles of TV Stations. Maximum 2 lines and/or 88 characters. The gray background is present because the font is small.

Here was a LOT of work AGAIN!

For the disappearing subtitles bug from the player:
Press the SLOW button from your remote! At the speed 1/2 or 1/4 you can see the subtitles AGAIN! After you can see the subtitles press play and enjoy your movie. NO needing for FF or RW.

The others improved characteristics by Mtz of the firmware are included.

________________________________________

Making centered subtitles:

Download and install DirectSub. >> Many thanks to podtalje <<
Open DirectSub and then go to File > Open Subtitle.
Tools > Mediatek Options > Load Firmware Mtz-Yamada v3 125x.
Set 2 "Maximum number of lines, uncheck "Maximum characters in one line", check "Center subtitles", check "Lower subtiltes", check "Right trim". OK.
Tools > Mediatek - Prepare Subtitles
If the loaded subtitle is in MicroDVD format, go to "convert" > "To .srt"
File > Export Subtitle.
Before burn the movie and subtitle on CD be sure that the movie name and subtitle name are the sames. Example: movie.avi movie.srt.

enjoy,
Mtz

1014 downloads when updated to v3.

@MTz
I've tested the 1st version of your mod and subs are not working correctly.
Only one line is displayed. The Medion sub support is not on the same level as
Yamada or E-Boda. To my knowledge the medion can only display max 60 characters and you can't change the height of the font, otherwise only one line is displayed. When you haven't done anything additional to your new version, I don't think it will work. I will test tomorrow. Anyways, thanks for your effort.

Hi, kodan2k and Welcome!

If you know, tell me the characteristics for medion subtitles because I have only Yamada and E-Boda, and the subtitles are displayed correct:
Maximum height.
Maximum number of characters per subtitle.
If an character must to be encoded at multiple of 4. At Yamada or E-Boda is not necessary.

Thanks for your support!

@ all, kodan2k was the first who released the firmware of medion, modding an PB DivX 100 firmware.

@ kodan2k, if you have new improved firmwares you can upload them here in attachments.

enjoy,
Mtz

Hi guys,

I own Elta 8883A player and I'm here like Alice in the Wonderland seeing you modified Yamada FW to work better with subtitiles! Wow, congrats Mtz!
Would it be possible to show some screenshots of both subtiles produced by newest FW version? And even more - would it be possible to modify Elta 8883A firmware the same way?

Looking forward to your answers!

@ Peter2 > sorry, I can't.
@ panda > give me the link for the latest and the best fw for your player. It must to read subtitles.
About screenshots, I can't now, but look at some translated movies on TV. ;) It's the same thing.

hello Mtz!

I own a elta 8882. Its not working well anymore and I am ready to buy a new player. Subtitle is a big deal for me. I have been happy with the subtitle support with my elta. Did not get æ, ø and å, but got used to that. Dont often use norwegian subtitles, mostly english.

I am not shure if I should get pioneer 575a or philips 720sa. Will your mod fw for pioneer show æ,ø and å. What player would you buy?

Thanks!

@mlynas > Make the translation in polish from the text file included in attachment:
Don't translate this:
23. 0x0016 [04][04][02]¤u e
65. 0x0040 [08][08][02]¤u e Off
106. 0x0069 [12][12][02]¶OL |f2|10d |f0|2d
In rows like that example, translate only what I put in bold.
501. 0x01F4 [21][21][02]Title |2d/|2d Chapter |c|2d|C/|2d

@ lab161 > both players are very good and using "EE" chipset. Read the player specifications, few forums and make your own decisions.

enjoy,
Mtz

@mlynas > regarding subtitles I can't do more. Sorry.

@der > I have one problem: the guy who imported the Yamada 6600 players in Romania, asked me to give him back. So I can't
make another tests on Yamada regarding bugs or improvements.
Because of that I need feedback regarding Yamada_1251_v3_Mtz from another users of this firmware to be sure if the problem is in my firmware or in your movie/player.

@Pioneer users >
1. somebody report that the firmware for Pioneer displays ONLY one subtitle line. Please confirm that. If is true I'll make few firmwares until two lines are displayed. For that I need beta testers with Pioneer players.

2. I need two screenshots:
- one regarding subtitles selections from the menu and what can be selected and
- one from an dvix movie with subtitles (if is possible, with two lines).

enjoy,
Mtz

Hi, I confirm that my Pioneer DV-470 displays only one line of subtitles and the same has been reported by other users. I can do beta testing if this is safe B) .

I have try three movies with cyrillic subtitles and there was allways a crash. But with latin is OK. Perhaps it's (cyrillic) too much for the chip?

@badger66 > It's safe.
I need screenshots. When I'll have this screenshots I'll start working on Pioneer firmware. For me, THE BEST is if somebody will make screenshots from all Pioneer menues and submenues wich contain info about selecting languages and regarding subtitles. You can put all this screenshots in an .zip attachment and upload it in this thread.
If somebody knows the maximum height for Pioneer subtitles font, post it.

@ der > put in an .zip attachment on this thread your divx subtitles wich make problems for you.

enjoy,
Mtz

Dear Mtz,
I live in Bulgaria and find , that you make Bulgarian Cyrillic firmware update for some MTK based DVD players. Also upgrade firmware for Pioneer DV-470/DV-575A in 1250 & 1252.
Can you make 1251 codded subtitle support for these Pioneer models? And can you solve this annoying "only one subtitle line" problem?

Ok, so I've created screenshots and attached them to this response. There are two screenshots of the menu, a screenshot of the movie with subtitles where only one line is displayed and a screenshot of my laptop when the same movie is playing and subtitles are displayed correctly (two lines). I hope this helps in resolving the problem :) . If you need more info please let me know :) .

Cheers.
B.

badger66 is the beta-tester for Pioneer firmware. Stop asking features for Pioneer until I prepare the firmware with badger.

badger, I'll contact you via PM (private message).
Thank you!

Working with badger66 for the "one line" subtitle problem...

@der > the subtitle is OK and have no errors. I'll send you soon an firmware via PM to test if the problem persist. But first, please test the both Subtitles types: Big and Small.

enjoy,
Mtz

Mtz, this is from someone who tested your firmware for the
MEDION MD 7457 and posted this remark in http://www.md7457forum.tech.nu/

the firmware (V1_1252):
-ONLY Single line in subtitle. My avi files use a .SRT file.
Sometimes I have 2 lines in subtitle, so the second line won't display.
But I like the font! I think this font can have more characters than the one of Packard Bell. (This font can display up to 43 characters/line)
The Packard Bell can display up to 36-38 characters/line, so sometimes words at the end of the line won't display.

- the letters of menus are distorted and are too great. This is CORRECT

Both firmware have the subtitles too high on the tvscreen.
For the next update, please have an option to position the subtitles and the choice of fonts on the remote control.
Furhter an option to display subtitles on/off on the remote control.
We need also display long mp3 filenames, just display this under the screen.

Pioneer dv-470

Your subtitle works with 1 line only and sometimes you cant see the first word in the line.
Letters are big and nice but in menu its too big and you cant see all the menu letters.
But you are on good way to make it the best font ever for dvd players.

:-) keep on good work

_______________________________

What's new:
- the subtitle is displayed on two lines. Amazing big font for Subtitles made by Mtz. The font can display up to 42 characters/line and the size is very similar to movie subtitles of TV Stations.
- removed that grey subtitles background. Outlined subtitles. :coolspeak:

Thanks to badger66 for beta-testing!

Today, only for the 1250 Standard Code Page.
For 1252, tomorrow night (I hope).

enjoy,
Mtz
