Hi to all,

I am new on this forum, already found a lot of useful informations. My problem at the moment is new PHILIPS DVP3040 player which has new firmware upgrade from the official philips web, but in this upgrade there is nothing new except the added cyrillic selection for divx subtitle. Does anyone already modified the firmware for this player for cp1250?
Thanks in advance

Yeah, please make an unofficial fw for this player, like for the philips DVP3010. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

PS: Can I put the unofficial FW of the philips dvp3010 in this player? Or it wil crash?

I just purchased the DVP3040 too. I like it and it seems to play all formats well. BUT - I have noticed something really irritating: When viewing divx movies the subtitles and the subtitle background are transparent - this makes it very hard (sometimes impossible) to read the subtitles from time to time. I have written Philips to hear if there's any way to change this!

More successfully you maybe write to ...eee... Santa Klaus (?) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) - in one day you become happy. Philips has you money already - and baaayyyy... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
My experience - if you need only fonts for subtitles – grab Mtkremaker and simply patch, change fonts for you needs. In facts, I patching own 3040 in this way, and my player now show Lithuanian character subtitles in big letter. “Nol problemos” – and problem:

1. paket bitstrim.
2. to short file names
3. divx subtitles positions
4...
5...
...
But it's all about changing firmware’s codes, programming changes, and this is not so easy.
Maybe comrades Mtz or mondi help us, if we all asking for. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

p.s. sorry for my english...

So, is it easy to change font color and for example remove the transperant background on the Philips 3040 using Mtkremaker?

Thanks for your reply! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Having opened the bin-file I can see that I can change the font - but the problem is not the font type - but the fact that the font (partially) and in particular the background is transparent - is there any way to either remove the background or set it to totally black and the font totally white?

Thanks for any replies!

Hi there - I finally have the subs on my Philips DVP3040 looking the way I want them to. Now I'm thinking I'll see if I can make it support Packed Bitstream. In this topic the following sequence is listed for updating the ARM code block:

QUOTE

1. Download the original 5100/2 BIN
2. Download your 4.x BIN
3. Use MTK's ReMaker (0.2) to store ARM Code Block 1 & 2 from your 4.x BIN
4. Use MTK's Replacer (0.3) to replace the original ARM with the one supporting PB

When I try in MtkReplacer I get the message that it is "Out of memory".

Do any you guys know why this happens - it SHOULD be possible to use the same code blocks (from another player - DVP5100), or what?

Thanks for any replies!

/Bays

I'll update myself (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I just tried replacing the whole ARM code block and it went fine. The divx movies run way better now (DVP3040 - ARM block from 5100 (see other topic above)) - but alas - it messed up all the fonts - subtitles and menu (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confusedsmiley.png)

Any ideas?

Please let me know!

Why don't yoy try the RISC from the modded firmware for the DVP3010, by mondi...

Hi - thanks for your reply! Actually I did it the other way around - I used Mondis FW and changed the fonts. Seem to work great - on my 3040. The only thing wrong is that the file menu is moved left (off center) for some reason?! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif) But I can live with that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Yes - I uploaded my edited firmware, but for some reason the topic was moved, now I can't find it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/deadtongue.gif) I will try to upload it again. It was a combo of Mondis and Umbandas firmwares (for 3010 and 5100) - the new FW has: Packed bitstream support, white subtitles with black outline (smaller fonts) and finally the subtitles were moved to the lower part of the screen. I will try to re-upload.

hi. I have bougth the DVP3040. I have seen that with some Xvid videos (specially some series episodes like lost or invasion) the video seems like some frames are lost. It is because of the packed bitstream????.

I have bougth this DVD player specially for the srt subtitle compatibility, but I have notice that now more or the series are in Xvid format!!!!.

I will love to update 3040 firmware, can you tell me the way you did it? I have no idea on firmware update, so please tell me.... like if I was stupid.... very stupid (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) .

Thanx a lot, not supporting packed bitstream is the worst downside of this player.

It does NOT by DEFAULT support packed bitstream - but unofficial firmwares HAVE been made so that it DOES support it. I tried uploading my firmware here yesterday but was told that I shouldn't. I have uploaded it to this address - try that one out.

As stated above it is combo of Mondis and Umbandas firmwares (for 3010 and 5100) - the new FW has: Packed bitstream support, white subtitles with black outline (smaller fonts) and finally the subtitles were moved to the lower part of the screen. Credits go to Mondi and Umbanda, I have merely edited the FW.

Enjoy! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

You're not being stupid... Start by getting the firmware, which can be downloaded via this post:
http://board.softpedia.com/index.php?showt...372&#entry19372

So...

1) Download the firmware
2) Unpack the bin-file
3) Burn the bin-file - following the guidelines setup by Philips
4) Update player (look in the same PDF for that, too)

That's it... Enjoy... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Hello
I just stumbled upon this forum myself. And I think I'm having the same issue. I also got a DVP3040/37, and it seem to play some divx and xvid movies choppily, is that because of it's lack of bitstream support? If so..anyway I can pull that firmware out and upgrade it?Any more info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

> Senra & RoadWarrior4073

I have obviously tested the firmware and it works like a charm. I'd like to point out that all credit should go to Mondi and Umbanda for packed bitstream and improved subtitle support - I have merely edited the firmware to suit my own needs. I actually thought about returning the player untill I got the firmware updated - now it runs perfectly. The jerkyness when watching divx is totally gone (thanks to Packed Bitstream support) and the subtitles are nice and clear - not like the original, which could be almost impossible to read. So - go for it - you WON'T regret it!

If you are unsure on how to update the firmware - read this topic:
http://board.softpedia.com/index.php?s=&sh...indpost&p=19384

Enjoy! :-)

The only thing i'm worried about is mine's a DVP3040/37 instead of a /12 like everyone else...i'm just wondering if it might be a possible different hardware revision or something. But oh well...I just bought it and if I it doesn't work, I'll put it back to normal and return it.

This firmware is great! But: font size should be larger and .sub files should be hidden in browser (if you open them directly - player hangs)

Thank U (IMG:style_emoticons/default/proud.gif)

The firmware does not want to work on my DVP-3040/37...it says vcd and then pcm something or other, and then just display's stop. Not sure if i'm doing anything wrong, or if it's just that hte /12 firmware is different.

Here's the program info from my DVP-3040/37

Version
37.06.33.04
SubVer
05.00.02.05
8032
05.00.04.02
Servo
A8.58.30.00
RISC
05.00.04.02

Hope this helps.

What did you call your bin file? I have the 3040/12 so mine is called: DVP3040_12.bin
Yours should probably be: DVP3040_37.bin

You could try renaming it to that. I hope it works for you...

Nope..it doesn't
Just comes up with VCD 1.1, and PBC OFF and then stop. I'm guessing the firmware is totally different.

You have to use Mode 1 , Max of 31 characters (Level 2) and uncheck all relax restrictions. If you look at the filename, you'll see that it has 10+3 characters, not 8+3, OK?

I'm guessing you're not making the upgrade cd as it should be done. What software anw what settings do you use?

I'm also using nero burning rom...same information as above, mode1, max of 31 charaters and and no checks under relax restrictions...and I just plopped the bin file in there. It now instead comes up as an Unknown disc type.

What did you call your bin file? I have the 3040/12 so mine is called: DVP3040_12.bin
Yours should probably be: DVP3040_37.bin

You could try renaming it to that. I hope it works for you...

Maybe I'm wrong, but shouldn't the filename be all caps, including the extension? (i.e. DVP3040_37.BIN)
At least that's the case with the DVP5100 (which is also a Philips player). If you try to load a fw with a .bin extension in the DVP5100 it will give you the "Unknown disc" message.
