New official firmware for dvp5960/12 is out (12.06.36.37). Fixed DivX Subtitle.

Check http://www.p4c.philips.com

Nice one. Now what exactly was wrong with the firmware in the first place?

Wireless, any chance you could patch the latest firmware with long filenames support?

Thanks

Great, I don't suppose you can get them to sort out long filenames over USB?

Nice skin! The text spans too wide and out of the screen so that usually the first letters are not readable. It also seems to be one line too high. Font to big?

Wireless,

Help, I'm trying to use mtkwindows to adjust/correct the position of the subtitle (I have /37 us version phillips). I would like to have 2-3 rows of subtitle since the original version cuts off with one row only.

How did u adjust the sub position? More specifically, can you tell me the zone position of the subtitle (e.g. 0x0B, 0x10, 0x19, etc) when you open the .bin file using mtkwindows?

Thanks

Yes, I forgot about this. You need to rename it.

Try this firmware. I hope I fixed subtitles:

This one have new skin:

Very nice! Still it doesn't play cyrillic subs.

In most players the subtitle Window ID is 0x11, but in the DVP5690 (also DVP5695K) the subtitles window id is 0x12.

Wireless,

I'm using mtkwindows v.0.8.3. I tried adjusting 0x12 sub zone but I get an error below

"Mpeg4SubtitleParams NOT found!"

when I try to Set to Max and Apply button (the Apply button doesn't work).

Am I missing something because I opened the firmware for /12 phillips, and it has the same error.

Am I using the correct mtkwindows?

thanks for the quick replies guyz/galz

You can't use the filebrowser background from some New Age firmware for the MP3 Tags?

Help someone (Wireless?)

I'm trying to adjust the subtitle position in zone 0x12 using mtkwindows v8.3 and following the guide from the following website:

http://baffab.free.fr/lecteurdvd/MTK_en.html

Here is where I desperately need help from the experts....

I am currently trying to adjust the sub position in 0x12 so that the USA phillips 5960/37 display 2-3 rows of subtitles properly (currently it can only display 1 row and it cuts off any extra sub - bummer).

Anyways, I opened the latest firmware DVP5960_37.BIN with mtkwindows.

1. After opening the FW, I go to the Windows tab to select the zone 0x12.

2. I adjusted the zone to my desire setting based on the guide.

3. Here is where the error occur.

When I go to the tab "Mpeg4 Subtitle... Window " to "Set to max" then "Apply" so that the subtitles fill all the zone, I get the ERROR as follow

"Mpeg4SubtitleParams NOT found!"

Then I try to debug it and get the following,

WList at 0x33DA0 - Count = 34 (0x22)
OsdPosList at 0x33243 - Count = 9 (0x09)

Still the same error. So, because of this error, the "Apply" button is greyed out - I can not apply my adjustment to zone 0x12.

I may have missed something in guide but I tried it several times again and still get the same error.

I even tried Wireless' adjusted firmware for the /12 euro version and still get the same error.

HELP, what am I doing wrong or am I missing something?

Thanks for reading this and for any assistance.

Hy Wirerless

Sorry for my very bad English

I try to explain as best as i can

I've try the firmware you send to me by PM (the version DVP5960_12_1252_v37w4)

Let me say to you that's it's work fine for french language

just one or two bugs

first the Small size of the subtitles or the standard or large are at the same size

I find no difference beetween them

And the second bug

If the subtitles are to long there's some words at the end of the ligne who are not wrotten

I think it's because the 5960 is not able to have subtitles on 3 lignes

But thank's a lot for this great job

best regards

Marco59

Does this player play xvid with packed bitstream? I am a owner of a pioneer 575 and are tired of the choppy playback of this files.

On the divxtest page it says that it plays packed bitstream: Totti.

Dont know what that means...

Hi Wireless2104,

I converted my /37 to /12 player by burning the official _12 firmware. No problem, works fine.
I've got Cyrillic subs with _12 firmware.
Tryed your DVP5960_12_CP1250_v37w4. It looks better but it doesn't have Cyrillic.
Could you please make a version of your firmware that supports also Cyrillic?
Thanks.

It's easy to change fonts. Find some firmware with CP1252 fonts, use mtkremaker to extract and after that for replacing fonts in my firmware. You have tools here, post #28
http://board.softpedia.com/index.php?s=&am...ost&p=22618

I don't have time to make or search better fonts.

1. After opening the FW, I go to the Windows tab to select the zone 0x12.

3. Here is where the error occur.
When I go to the tab "Mpeg4 Subtitle... Window " to "Set to max" then "Apply" so that the subtitles fill all the zone, I get the ERROR as follow
3. Don't go to mpge4... Just hit save firmware on first tab.

hey Wireless,

for the standard, small, and large subtitle selection, is...

Font 3 used for standard?

Font 4 used for small?

and Font 5 used for large?

I just wanted to know so that I can make the small sub smaller with your suggestion on changing font size.

btw, I tried resizing the subtitle zone and saved the bin file. but when I burned it to the cd, the phillips wouldn't recognise. I think it has to do with me messing with zone 0x12 beyond what the phillips would allow.

Wonderful work,Wireless! Everything looks really good!

Now, can someone say whether it´s a bug in the player or something else as it doesn´t seem to span really long subs into 3 rows and therefor some of the letters or phrases don´t fit in screen?

I am very interested in using the wireless's firmware on a 5960/37 machine.
Could someone please clarify these questions?

1) How to use the /12 firmware on the /37 machine?
Rename the file to DVP5960_37.bin, then burn and upgrade? Do I need to first upgrade to the official /12 firmware as artemio suggested?

2) If something goes wrong, how to downgrade?
Just rename the file back to DVP5960_12.bin and burn and upgrade as hamaru05 said?

3) someone claims the new version of /37 firmware does not work on divx with packed bitstream:

Could someone with the latest /12 firmware (modified or not) please download these two files and see if they both play fine?

Thank you all for sharing the useful info! Great job, wireless2104!

I think Philips learned at least that the subtitles need outline. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I didn't have a problem by converting my /37 to /12: just rename the _12.bin to _37.bin.

Could you please comment on the playback result on the two files I linked? Losing support on packed bitstream would make the upgrade a big no-no for me.
Also is there anyway to convert back to /37 version at all?

Hi Justin, Sorry I didn't really understand what was it about those files. I'm a sort of newby in this area.
Regarding your rollback to /37 I would assume that you could do the same that you did for /12 conversion:
rename _37 as _12.

Thank you, artemio. I get it.
About the two files -- one has packed bitstream and the other does not. People are reporting the updated version of 37 firmware has jerky playback on the file with packed bitstream. I suspect the new 12 firmware has the same issue.

Is it even possible to change the firmware back to european version? I get the message "Unknown disc".
The reason I tried the US version is that I can't get other resolutions out than 480. Not even with the latest official version.

Latest official firmware fixed dvi-hdmi problem, in my case everything is now ok with Panasonic PT-AE500. All setup options for upsaling are now active. Ofcourse there could be another bugs still out there...

I still have to go to setup menu to change resolution: front panel upscale button still doesn't work as it should be.

Remember also: dvp-5960 upscales only HDMI output, not component output.

I connect the player with hdmi-hdmi cable to Thomson's LCD. The latest firmware didn't fix the problem. I read from another forum that one possible cause is that dvp5960 cannot handle hdcp correctly with all panels and projectors.

I don't have a problrm either: my LCD TV detects the upconverted resolution I've set on the player on HDMI output.
