Only MTK chipsets. If you can't find anywhere the firmware from your player is better to make a backup and then to try to upgrade with some unofficials. You can use this guide but choosing "backup" not upgrade. If you extracted your firmware, upload it here in a zip atachment and paste the informations about firmware using MTK Remaker.If you want to report something wrong about data base post here.enjoy, Mtz

Philips 5100 can handle .sub, .srt and .smi divx/xvid subtitles (if they have exactly the same name as movie).
But out of the box, subtitles are small and transparent, so I can send you firmware by e-mail for better looking and bigger subtitles if you want.
This firmware is not on Philips site, because it was "taken out" by me and some other people from the player with serial cable, so the people could modified it with MTKRemaker as they want. I think that this player for now don't need any official modifications,
because it work superbly in therms of picture and sound quality, as well with divx/xvid. The only minor thing is the quality of subtitles - on this issue almost all of a big corporations don't pay attention because they still sell a huge amount of players with or without good divx subtitle support. So, you can easily find modified firmware on this forum or I can send you my own if you want. But I must warn you that this player don't
have drawer for disc - it have slot-in mechanism like car CD-player. This is annoying for me, so I would rather recommend you DVP3100 (the same model in smaller box but with disc drawer) or DVP5500 (bigger brother - it has the drawer and it also have 5.1 output and Super Audio CD support). All of them have really good picture and they work smoother as those cheap Xoros, Yamadas and other...
You can also get firmware for both of them.
You can have multiple subtitles on disc but the start ot the name of subtitles must be
the same as name of the movie. For example:
Lord of the rings.avi
Lord of the rings.srt
Lord of the rings.cz.srt
Lord of the rings.pol.srt
Switching between them is possible with button SUBTITLE while movie is playing.
How to upgrade instructions are on the Philips home page - procedure is the same
as with player like DVP720, DVP762, LX3900, LX8300 , so you should check those.
If there is a file Backup.bin you should open the file in MTKRemaker and save it as
"Save CD". Then rename the file to: DVP5100_02.bin and burn it to CD - How to burn it and "install" it check on the www.p4c.philips.com like I mentioned above.
But - if this is "Backup.bin" it means it's not modified, it's the same as in your player,
so you certainly don't need upgrading with this firmware - it won't change a thing.
You better look out for some modified fw's, and do it only if you're not satisfied with a look of divx subtitles, Because I don't think that there is any firmware for this model to add any new functionality (for now).

This is the firmware for a model sold in Europe.
MTZ's firmware is not suitable for this model (I think it's only for Israelian model)
because, the Remote control routines are not the same (everything else is!)
So, if you upgrade your DV 4360 (European model) with MTZ's firmware and the
remote don't work anymore, then this fw will put your player in original state
with remote control working again, but of course with no MTZs improvements....
