(IMG: style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I'm also waiting for a mod fw (V2); in my opinion, long name in the file browser is the most important mod to do. Bye

Hello everybody...
I just tried to upgrade my Peekton 6750 with a modded firmware.
Don't be too enthusiastic , I am by far NOT a specialist in this domain, and the only change I dared to make was the replacement of the 2 bytes in the ARM code that are supposed to fix the SRT timing bug (probably the greatest annoyance of the Mediatek firms, according to me... )
So, I used MTK Remaker (version 0.23b6) to extract the ARM block; I found and replaced the 2 bytes with an hex editor; then I replaced the original ARM block by the modded one with MTK Remaker. No error occured and I saved the new firmware in a bin file.
I copied this file on my USB Key (that works usually fine with the 6750) and renamed it as MTK.BIN
When I turned the player on and pressed the USB key on the remote, I got this message on the screen :
UPGRADE FILE DETECTED UPGRADE ? PRESS PLAY TO START
I thought the game was already won and I pressed PLAY on my RC. The message "FILE COPYING" appeared and the LED of the USB key blinked for 1 or 2 seconds.
Unfortunately, everything stopped with the fatal message "CHECKSUM FAIL".
I resumed the entire operation twice to ensure I didn't make a mistake, but the final result was always the same.
I don't understand where the problem could lie. Could it be a bug in the upgrade routines of the PK6750 ? If a more competent user than me could study the case and give some hints, I would really appreciate.

Hi again I finally found the solution to my problem. The PK6750 file that I downloaded from the "Original firmwares" section had a lot of 0xFF bytes at the end. After I removed them, the upgrading process worked perfectly on the PK6750. And the subs of my DMF movies are now (at last !) well synchronized ! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Anyone can get me this info about this player please:
1. Does it work with USB disks formated as NTFS? 2. Does it play big files > 2GB from USB? 3. Does it play HD DivX files (with resolutions bigger that 720x576)? 4. Does it sync subtitles?

(IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Hi Tentakulokans, I have found your modded V2 fw in a French site, I'm Italian and don't understand any French word (IMG: style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) , I would like to know the results of your modifications. The new filbrowser for long names works fine ? Mp4, Ogg, WMV are yet active after these modifications ? (IMG: style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif)

...sorry my bad language skils, my german and polish is better....hellp...... Probably the problem is a wrong wmv codec (only wmv9 can be read) or a bad resolution. Also a too high video bitrate(kbps) could cause this problem. Can you post a gspot or avinaptic report? (IMG: style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Greetings and happy new year to all PK6750's owners ! I'd like to submit at your attention this firmware that I modified, hoping it will bring some functions and settings that were missing in the original one. It is based on the version 07.09.08.0A that was extracted from a so-called "V1" player by Wizard of Oz's (many thanks to him !). Here is a brief overview of what I have added : - The CD-Text infos can be displayed while playing audio CDs. CD-Text lines can be moved or swapped using the direction keys on the remote control. The CLEAR key displays a little spectrum of frequencies. The TITLE key starts a scan of the disc, playing a few seconds of each track. - For VCD and DVD discs, the TITLE key gives access to a screen of thumbnail sequences showing different point of the disc, of the current title, or of the current chapter. It is also possible to view sequences spaced by a constant time interval and to choose the point where to resume play. (It's a bit confusing when trying to describe that feature with words, but in fact very simple to use.) - The file browser can now display long filenames (up to 46 characters). That works also with files stored on a USB device. - The JPEG slideshow can be put in automatic or manual mode. Transition effects can be instantly disabled with the CLEAR key. The OSD key displays the resolution of the current picture. - The ID3v1 tags are now showed in the lower part of the file browser while playing MP3 files. The displayed duration of MP3 can reach 99:59. Duration and average bitrate of VBR files are correctly computed (a bug in the original firmware could give false values when large ID3v2 tags were added to the file). - The DivX external text subtitles are now well synchronised (fix for the famous "srt millisecond bug"). When lines are too long, the whole text is rearranged so that the line returns are inserted between words and not more or less at random in the middle of words. Bold and italics tags in SRT, SSA and SUB formats are supported and the associated text styles are displayed on screen. While playing a DivX file with external text subtitles, the direction keys of the remote control move the text around the screen (at least a good part of it...). - I added of course some menus and entries in the setup to enable the customizing of all the above features... and some others too (for example : the brightness of the front display and the control of the bottom blue light). - Finally, I tried to improve the french interface and (re)translated a lot of the original strings. Unfortunately, my knowledge of german and spanish languages is greatly insuffisant and I could not make the same work for them. If there are volunteers on this forum to "take the job"... or even create from scratch new language files for the PK6750 ? I hope you will find some interest in my work. If you have any problems or questions, I'll do the best to answer to you (but I must warn you that I do not know anything about numeric sound and HD screens : my PK6750 is connected via a SCART cable to a "simple" CRT TV set...) Regards.

QUOTE (farmacon @ Jan 6 2009, 13:47) your mod fw, based on V1, plays on V2 player ? It should normally run on V2 and V3 player. Some users of a french forum did the test with apparently success. But I didn't test myself that scheme, so I cannot give you any assurance. Furthermore, you must be aware that V2 and V3 firmwares have not been made available for the moment. So, the operation is not reversible, assuming that you dislike something in my firm.

Absolutely, I have to extract V2 fw, but i don't know where is my serial interface ( my wife is the best cleaner !).
