Impossible... Check "Display" --->>> Folder, single....

I know, it is strange. I tried Folder - I can see the second image only. Even if I start on the second I see no one! Strange.
Single mode - I see nothing. I tried to copy each of them to separete folder and tried to show them. Nothing.
I tried to Save As in Paint.NET to create neww files and still the same.
Maybe it is some problem of image format...? I have jpg from my camera in other folder and I can see all of them.
These 2 strange jpgs are downloaded from net... If you want to try these images I upload them on net:

That's great ! So, I think the patch could be working on all the Mediatek players with a USB port.
I'm happy if my work could bring a little contribution to make better Mediatek firmwares.
Best regards.

Unfortunately it does not work with the DVP5960 as the routine you patched is a little different. I can't figure out which part of my routine to change, or if it is even possible.

The new firmware from post 471 works great, nevertheless I have only one remark which I also had issues with in the original Philips version. When adding new *.avi-files into my WD-HDD they won`t show in my 5990-player. All the original ones show (from the first time I loaded the files). The folder is sometimes displayed but not the file itself. I also have the same issue with the XVID-files, they won`t show on the player. Does anyone experience the same problem?

I sorted the problem out.. It seems when you bury the files too deep, in 2 or 3 folders, the file fails to appear within the folder.

Hello all,

I have a problem with my 5990. While watching movie with subtitles in format like that:

00:04:31:blablabla.
00:04:36:blablablabla.
00:04:45:blablablablaaa.

my dvd often shows them on the screen joining two next lines toghether. And on the screen appears:

blablablabla.
00:04:45:blablablablaaa.
^^^^^
with this timestamp

What is wrong?

If you want to see good subtitles from VOB files...

Find what files are for movie. Not all time are VTS_01_1.VOB. Open in a player and check.
Let's say that is VTS_01_1.VOB. Open VTS_01_1.IFO in VSRip or in VobSub.
(IMG:http://hosting03.imagecross.com/image-hosting-09/8854vsrip.jpg)

Check in "Program Chain" what PGC is used for subtitles.
If you have only one movie on DVD. - there is only one subtitles.
Select language (or leave all) and extract sub/idx in VIDEO_TS folder.
Open idx file in a text editor and check:
# Vob/Cell ID: 3, 1 (PTS: 0)
timestamp: -00:00:00:080, filepos: 000000000
If you have "-" sign delete this.
That's all. Time for this ~ 5 minutes.
After VOB is loaded by player press "Subtitle" and select what subtitle language do you want (Subtitle 0x/0y:Name of language).
If you have more than one movie on DVD (more than one subtitles).
Extract subtitles only for one language.
Let's say that you have x subtitles language on DVD. Open idx file and change:
# English
id: en, index: 0 --->>> change here with x+1.
Save file.
After VOB is loaded by player, press "Subtitle". First time display "Subtitle 01/01: lang. name" , after that, when movie have subtitles in vob file, player display "Subtitles 01/0y:". Press "Subtitles" button to load what subtitle do you what to use. In this case subtitle language is not displayed (Subtitles 0x/0y:).

This is not the best solution but is one. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/naughty.gif)

Right, I just don't get it why you fiddle in the idx file when there are several subs in the movie. You select the movie you want and extract only those subtitle streams you need, in my case english/german and then you can switch between them using the remote. No need to edit the idx file at all.

Thanks for this great firmware vb6rocod! Philips should pay millions for your work.
Now the player is useable.

To the mp3-shuffle:
My old Philips LX 3900 SA has had this feature, and the menu-screens from this old player looks similar to the original screens from the new 5990.
Philips did a great job in the last three years! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cursing.gif)

Perhaps the both firmwares are comparable and you can transport some code from the old firmware to the new firmware?

With best regards and thank you very much!

Hi.

Followed the instructions to install DVP5990_12_vb6_v7_2_1250_CD_Logo.rar and worked like a charm. Thanks a lot.

I got a lil problem now. I went to my computer to put a movie on my USB stick and forgot about the firmware file that was already on it. Copied a movie on the stick and I plug it on the DVD player. After a few seconds and the DVD tray opened by itself. My dad started messing with the remote and now it doesn't respond to any commands, either from buttons it has nor from the remote control and unplugged the electric cord a few times. The tray remained open and he brute forced closed it. What can I do to make it work again? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cursing.gif)

Get your dad to pay up since he pressed 'play' when answered if the player should be flashed or not.

Hi there.

For what stands the "1250" in the version's name? Which one should I take when using a german DVP5990?

I flashed a second player (also german) with the "1254" version and it doesn't work anymore. My other one still works fine. Hope I didn't put the wrong version on it.

thx

The 1250/1254 stands for the code page. 1250 is East European, 1254 Turkish. For a german player you should have used 1252 (West European). This has just worked for me some minutes ago.

Then is 5990/37 not 5990/12. AFAIK, 5990/12 is only sold in Europe. You should check the topic related to 5990/37, otherwise you risk DVD into a brick.

one question:
would it be possible to allow the player to output hdmi audio AND digital audio at the same time with a patch?
the original firmware only allows hdmi audio OR digital audio.

Hello, I've just registered to this forum only to thank you vb6rocod !

I've asked to be offered the 5990 at last Christmas, the main reason was that at this time I knew that you already hacked and made it really useable.
I've used several of your firmwares and now, with your latest firmware (and thanks to Tentakulokans ), it's a real pleasure to watch DVD and DivX (USB Key and disk).
Great hardware (at this cost) and now a trully good software.

Sorry to thank you so late ! (and for my poor English:-)

Regards

The player is standard capable to output DD5.1 via HDMI and SPDIF concurrently, but not with DTS. It seems to be a HW limitation. I am using this setup myself.

A DVD5980 or DVD5960 won't support any dual output at all.

Hi all together!
I have two 5990..I flashed one of them successfully...the second one just worked for a few minutes an then when powering on the screens just showed blue... > bluescreen ^^

Now my question: Is it because of the firmware or just a hardware damage?!

What would you say!?

Thanks!

I am looking for a firmware update/upgrade for a Philips DVP5990/37 that will allow it to recognize and play FLV files.

Is there such a thing? The listing don't mention FLV so I guess there isn't, I Hope I am wrong

Hello!
From a month ago I've noticed too low audio level with DD soundtraks on all outputs - analog RCA, scart and HDMI too. No matter DVD or Xvid.
I use direct connection from DVD to TV Philips 32PW9551/58. Don't have a receiver.
Here I found same complaint: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers/philips-dvp-5990/9370
Did anybody else noticed this problem? Player is still on warranty...
