Volume Control to Volume-Buttons on Remote Control? Hi, vb6rocod! Thanks for your great work (IMG: style_emoticons/default/coolspeak.gif) One question I would ask: Is it possible to change the volume control you added to "repaeat" and "repeat A/B" buttons to the "Vol. +/- on the remote control? Greets spidey

Regards To vb6rocod I think is a simple question... After all, what is the difference of Old firmware and the new design firmware? They had the same features? Thanks again.

QUOTE (DeepforcesX @ Jul 19 2009, 12:50) Hi all together! I have two 5990..I flashed one of them successfully...the second one just worked for a few minutes an then when powering on the screens just showed blue... > bluescreen ^^
Now my question: Is it because of the firmware or just a hardware damage?!
What would you say!?
Thanks! Hey there...still got this dead player here...does the bluescreen comes from the firmware/software error or is the player's hardware damaged!?Any suggestions!? Regards

QUOTE (Tripper_ @ Aug 23 2008, 06:25) I was able to get this working on 5990/37 by adding HDCP block and flashing with serial. Thanks for the firmware it works great. Can you please tell me how do you add an HDCP block? My firmwares does not even have HDMI, but many users of my forum are having troubles with their players losing the HDMI output after a failed upgrade and a serial cable player resuscitation, and I want to try to help them. Thank you! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wave.gif)

Thank you! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/wave.gif) I think the only way to get the HDCP block is to dump it by serial cable from the original firmware. vb6rocod modified firmware does not include the HDCP block ( it's not included in the firmware from philips either). So when someone flashes firmware using the serial cable it zeros out HDCP block area which prevents hdmi from working. The way I get it to work is by using a hex editor and adding it to vbrocod firmware before I flash. The easiest thing is to make a backup first and if you run into problems you can most likely fix it by reflashing with the original firmware.

Hi vb6rocod,
I found you'd been trying to add Korean font for Korean subtitle but you failed to do so. I desperately need my recent DVP5990/F7 to have this Korean subtitle feature built in. So please give it a try one more time, I'm gonna help you out.
Here's a brief way how to display Korean characters. Korean characters, as well as other Asian characters like Chinese, have 2-byte (16-bit) font mapping table. So basically you need a huge font bitmap files to hold 65536 fonts in it. The mapping concept is not complecated - simply the 1:1 mapping between 16-bit character code and font table. But the problem is, the text file is usually mixed up with traditional 1-byte ASCII character and 2-byte Korean character together. So here's the way how to distinguish them:
1. Read a character byte. 2. If it is < 0x80, then it is a normal 7-bit mapped ASCII character. 3. If it is >= 0x80, then this is the LSB of 2-byte Korea character. 4. So read one more byte for MSB, and then make them a 16-bit of Korean code. 5. Get the correspoding font bitmap from the table and display it out. 6. Repeat step 1
Please let me know if you need any help.

I just find 2 problems with the last firmare DVP5990_12_vb6_v7_5:
- If i burn a dvd movie (dvd+-r) without menus and with many subtitles, you can't change the subtitle. The key subtitle of remote control don't work, and is impossible to change the subtitle. Works fine in divx movies and DVD movies with menus.
- Using a external USB drive, the folders don't have an order. Only the files appears with order.
Can you help vb6rocod?

On USB it's not sorted by date but in order of files being copied to it, thank M$ for their crappy filesystem. However, if files were deleted before copying new files over the order will be messed up since the new files fill up old positions which usually never fits. So yes, drivesort will solve this problem.

QUOTE (vb6rocod @ Dec 29 2008, 17:46) Update for American model 5990_37 . Fix crash problem with DVR+change from v1_2_1: * new font with outline for OSD message, new Setup menu. * new option for subtitle color. New menu for Background and Outline color. Add color Black and "Transparent". * move subtitle position few pixels to left. * add a new menu for vertical position of subtitles, with 16 steps. Special for users with plasma TV and custom zoom ("Zoom1" or "Cine"). * add a new menu for "loaded subtitles", good if movie and subtitles don't have same name. * Add PAL and Multi to TV Type. NTSC is default. I make 2 distinct version: If you use Vobsub subtitle (sub/idx), I make a version without patch "Load org then all", because with this patch only first sub/idx is loaded. So, if you use this type of subtitles use this version: DVP5990_37_vb6_v2_3_2.rar (and for West Europe - CP 1252) http://rapidshare.de/files/41226920/DVP599...v2_3_2.rar.htmlCyrillic (CP 1251) also support Cyrillic in file browser -USB/ISO+JolietDVP5990_37_vb6_v2_3_2_CP1251.rarhttp://rapidshare.de/files/41232987/DVP599...CP1251.rar.html*************************************************************************** If no, use this (with patch "Load original subtitle,if not found, load all")DVP5990_37_vb6_v2_3_1.rar (and for West Europe - CP 1252) http://rapidshare.de/files/41226861/DVP599...v2_3_1.rar.htmlCyrillic (CP 1251) also support Cyrillic in file browser -USB/ISO+JolietDVP5990_37_vb6_v2_3_1_CP1251.rarhttp://rapidshare.de/files/41232979/DVP599...CP1251.rar.htmlEach version is with or without volume on repeat keys. After update and "Reset", change font, color, and position. Hi, vb6rocod! I was trying to download your firmware but links are redirecting me to rapidshare.com homepage. Did you take them down? Is there any other way to get your firmware? I would really appreciate if you send me a link to cyrillic or western european files packages. Thank you very much!

Hello everyone. I have a problem with reading avi movies larger than 1 GB. The film is reading ok, but suddenly goes down. The FAT32 supports up to 4GB. Perhaps a limitation of the dvd player. This only happens with divx/xvid files larger than 1 GB. It's quite annoying to be split into 2 files and create subtitles for this.
Can anyone help overcome this problem?
