Anyone know about Sytech sy402? I bought it in Spain for 60 euros
It has the mtk1389de chipset
Progressive scan
HDCD etc.

Would I be able to flash with other mtk1389de firmware?

Regards
Mtz
Why do you want to flash it with another firmware?

enjoy,
Mtz

The current firmware seems to have problems with the FPS on certain avi's and mpegs
ie i seems to get on 20 fps instead of normal 25/30

Some problem with me.

Are there any plans for a new firmware release?
(one of the bad things about the original firmware is that it doesn´t accept portuguese characters or fonts. eg. ~ or `´).

Thanks,

to be abel to do something about the fw we need someone to provide us whit it, like backing it up using a seriel cabel or a link to where to download it

First of all, thanks for the fast answer.

Actually, the latest (and original) file can be found here: SY402-89.bin

It is the only one that can be found on the Sytech home page.
You can also find the manual in english, pdf format.

or right from softpedia (mtz): http://download.mtz.softpedia.com/original...al_Firmware.zip

Both seem to be the same (ref. 89 or 23.07.00.00)

The model is the Sy-402 with the MT1389FE chip.

There is an odd thing (I´m new at this). Yesterday I tried to backup the firmware using the guide that Mtz made, to no avail confusedsmiley.png , I almost succeeded but gave up, and discovered that the Mt chip on the board was the MT1389DE (March 2005). Is it supposed to say that or should it be FE at the end?

Also, how long does it usually take to flash or update the firmware in a MT1389 chip? I have read that it takes 40 seconds up to 2 minutes. Could it take 5 - 10 minutes? Flashing makes me nervous... lol.

Any help would be appreciated and sorry for all the questions.

if it say 1389DE on the chip its not a FE chip
i don't really know what the diff is on those chips but think it was Mtz that wrote something about its not the chip but the firmware that is most important

its normal takes 2-5 min to upgrade a player depending on how big the firmware is

Once again, thanks for the answers. Tried searching the board but didn´t find anything about the DE and FE chip. But its ok, sooner or later I will find something.

About the frames problem. Could it be the problem of "packed bitstream"? I mean, the image doesn´t stop, only slows down, slightly. The sound and subtitles don´t. And not with all movies...

And sorry for posting the info about my player here. Found the proper thread to do it...

Thanks

a jerky playback on avi files sound like packet bitstream problem, but noticed you also mentioned about jerky playback on some mpeg for that i will say that sound like bad encoding, or maybe try to changes the video output from pal to ntsc
jcpbs
Man, you rule Hackerjac!!! Really fast answers...

You are right about the mpeg jerks. Tried it with other movies (vcd) and no jerky effect... Thank you.
And for bitstream, I hope Mediatek finds a solution for it (re-coding the movies is a pain...).

I have found a modified Firmware for this player made by a spanish user. I will soon post the link, if possible, but there are some minor problems and it is not ready.

After updating my firmware, the player died but I went back to the store (have 15, in this case less, days to try it, no questions asked) and they gave me another one. It seems the firm was over 1 mega and the flash chip didn´t like it... something like that... Some Osd languages were removed. But I will not try it until someone does it for me, looool... The store won´t give me a second player smile.gif

Thank you Hackerjac

i woulden put my trust on mediatek to solve the packet bitstream problem, most MTK player can't handle packet bitstream but there is a couple of them out there that can play it, so there is a solution, just don't belive we will see it on old players before some of the hardcore guys out there discover the routine and are abel to program it in firmwares

As I have said in another thread, I have a new firmware in my model which is not available anywere. I have tried to back it up but have not been able to do it yet. I will keep trying.... (I have a nforce 2 motherboard and that could be the problem)

I have noticed (and confirm) that this firmware can play OGG files. All previews firms couldn´t.
It plays audio ogg files.
It plays Divx or xvid with audio ogg.

Also, I tried multiple subtitles and it plays them correctly:

Avi -> "name.avi"
Subtitles in English -> "name.EN.srt"
Subtitles in Spanhish -> "name.ES.srt"

Or

Avi -> "name.avi"
Subtitles in English -> "name.1.srt"
Subtitles in Spanish-> "name.2.srt"

The only problems are the "jerky" effect of Packed Bitstream but not with all movies. Some movies with packed bitstream play smooth (I think the ones that have only 1 consecutive B-VOPs with packed bitstream)...

Still, long filenames are not suported (only 14 char. I think) but it shows the full name of the directory...

Thanks
