Hi!

well....i just received about 2hours ago my brand new MX105.
I had a yamada 6700 which just burned out, and the folks at Pixmania gave me a new MX105.

My first impressions were really good.
Pros:
- it has all possible outputs, with even an Optical Audio out, which the 6700 had not.
- the software is a lot more userfriendly, with more options.
- remote control is also a big improvement, being much easier to use and better at touch
- the CD deck is now a normal one, not the 5mm thin that the 6700 has. Though it opens about 75%, which is somehow strange....
- image quality has improved over the 6700.

Now, for the "cons":
- it hangs!!! mad.gif while playing a DIVx movie, it hangs from time to time about half a second, and jumps 2 or 3 seconds forward!!!
- subtitles: i'm not sure yet, but it seems that the subtitle file must be named equal to the movie filename! Also, you have to choose subtitle file by a "strange" process: play movie, while playing press Subtitle key, then it show some kind of index ID [1][2][3][4]..... and you have to press the corresponding id to change subtitles! really dule way to select a subtitle! I haven't found a way to choose subtitles by the CD Explorer, so i think this is the only way!
And yes, i did some RTFM, and besides being in french, and badly translated from english to french, nothing is there about choosing subtitles...only the way i described...
- subtitles , once again: fonts are white, small...too small for me at least, background is some kind of violet colour...AND special characters, like Ç(cedil) É È Ã and other portuguese characters are not supported!!! mad.gif

In the round up,i think it is better than the 6700.I just hope someone makes a better firmware!!!

MTZ, pliiiiiiiiiiiiiiize! help us smile.gif

yup....u r right...
so, is there anyway i could copy the firmware?
what kind of cable should one use to do this?

i did a RS232 cable once, but i need to solder some resistence to I/O pins, so i do not get 12V instead of 3.3v.....(that is why my 6700 burned death.gif )

Hackerjac
you could start whit reading this guide http://mtz.softpedia.com/index.php?option=...&id=20&Itemid=2

and then maybe take some pic of the player inside so we can see how it looks smile.gif
Mtz
I think this player is with Zoran Vaddis 7 chipset.

enjoy,

Maybe it's easier if you just get a mobile data cable. It shouldn't be too expensive, I guess. It appears that with those cables you only need 3 wires (RX, TX, GND). At least it's working with some people.

However if your new player is not a Mediatek based one, and it looks like it isn't, you're out of luck as far as modding is concerned. Maybe try to return it and get another one? Since you live in Portugal, as I do, I suggest you try the Denver 228 (clone of Yamada 6600) which is on sale at Worten, for 65 €.

It seems to me that it is pretty much the same of the old 6700 though the Yamada folks changed chipset and stuff.
It is now a Sunplus SPHE8281A (never heard of it, and i'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with Sun Microsystems naughty.gif )

Is there any other equipment using the same chipset? is it worthy?
Better than the MTK chipset?

By the way,

i'm not sure if the MX105 is related in anyway with the 5700, but the manual (yes, i did RTFM!:)) is both for mx105 and yamada dvd 5700....anyone knows about the 5700? is the chipset the same as the 105?

Hey scoelho....
Thanks for the information about the mx105, I'm looking to buy a DVD/Divx player and I'm really interested in this player.

I have a few questions... did you test xvid movies with packed bitstream, does it support it or is the image jerky? What about xvid + AC3 movies did you check if the subtitles disappear after 15 min or something? This is what bothers me more in DVD players I think the rest can be more or less fixed with firmware upgrade.

And when you say it hangs in a Divx movie, could it be because the dvd is scratched, or has some dust, or is it really the player's fault, does it happen to every divx movie?

Regards
rialto123
could you upload pictures somewhere else (rapidshare.de) ? i cant see them here... this player is 13.5K local currency compared to yamada 6700 (18K)...

would really like to know if supports:

(xvid)
- qpel
- qmc 1 / gmc 3
- packed bitstream when bvol=1 or bvol=2 are used

and... is there anything in manual about player being software
upgradable (meant as upgradable via CDR, not via cable or de-soldering
flash chip smile.gif

thanx

The new Firmware did solve the AVI+VBR playback issues.

Firmware can be downloaded from:

www.yamada.de/ftp/mx105v2.zip

Instructions on howto create the update CD you can find on:
www.yamada.de/ftp/yamada_update_eng.pdf

Before updating always load default settings.

I have recently bought a yamada mx105 to watch backup dvds on -r discs, i have a 6700 which plays them fine but i am finding the mx105 skipps and stutters often during playback, i updated the firmware to v2 which has made it slightly better but still horrendous, any ideas what it could be?

But many of people problems seem to be with avi's, the trouble i am having is with dvd movies, could this be a time to wait for yamada to get a decent firmware out that makes the play do what it should? I wish i had just bought another 6700 now
rakker
here are the pics from the inside for the yamada mx 105

look here

only the site is in german maybe somebody can translate it wink.gif

Ok i installed firmwares 2 and 3 on my 6700 and i found the skipping problem occured on that, i reinstalled firmware 1 and it sorted the problem, this firmware has the packed bitstream support... could this be the thing the mx105 is lacking? I dont know much about these things but if yamada get off thier asses and produce an equivelent firmware for the mx105 i will be sorted, i think i may just send it back to pixmainia as i am not happy tbh
Hackerjac
Bengdogg if i understand you correct, its dvd movie you have probs whit and not avi files burned on a dvd ?

if so it has notheng to do whit packet bitstream since that is only used in avi files, i know from other players like my old philips 722 if i burn a movie over 4x it keeps skipping the picture, so if you burn faster try slowing the burn speed down
