Has anyone even heard of this model? Desay KEDV3003? Its not listed anywhere on Desay's site, english or chinese. I did a google search and it came up with another company that apparently makes the same player but under their brand.

I checked inside and on the chip it says:

I'm only asking because I'm trying to track down a firmware or even a compatible one, so that it'll play packed bitstream and support chinese .srt/.sub. I was thinking of flashing it with a ds-820 firmware; but I didn't wanna risk it cuz I don't even know if it's the same chipset.

I'd be grateful for any information/help at all..

Try to find the original firmware or extract it using serial cable like described here using the backup button.

I don't have to use a mobile phone serial cable do I? Because I already have a DB9 connecter lying around. I'm guessing 3.3V would goto Pin 1, RX would goto Pin 2, TX would goto Pin 3, and GND would goto Pin 5? this would be correct right?
