Hi all

I think this is something we are all wondering about: which firmware is best?

There are many firmwares available, all for different players and with different version numbers, but many are very compatible.
Personally I have a scott 842 player which can successfully run elta 8883A or H&B 3220 firmware after modding the RC and button code.

The original Scott firmware offered a selection for dutch as default language, however no subtitles.
The Mtz update did offer subtitles and a selectable browser font, but no dutch and multisession disks were refused.
Elta and H&B firmwares accept multisession disks, but again no dutch language and no browser font selection.

First I would like to make an overview of the significance of the version numbers, we know for example that the first number of the servo code is specific for the hardware.
But what is the meaning of sub-version? or DSP? (anything to do with DTS for example?)

Which features and which bugs are introduced in which versions?
As a start: servo 01.05.01.00 does not support multisession, whereas 01.10.20.00 and higher do.

What is the significance of 16 vs 8 bits (if any when using a serial cable instead of a CD to update)? My player has 2 8Mbit memory chips, which make for a total of 2Mbytes or 1Mword of memory. Still, I cannot flash a firmware which is larger than 1Mbyte.

The ultimate would be a toolbox from which one can choose features like subtitles, dts, which fonts, combine it with the servo code of your player (using a futuristic 'ultimate' version of MTKremaker) and your done!
