Nothing is perfect, though. Some minor bugs really annoy me (I know it's free and I'm grateful for the inspired work), like those cut-off numbers in OSD (press Display 2x when playing a DVD), divx filename too big in OSD, and DVD disc navigator w/o numbers.

Heh, cut-off letters is my fault... cause I shrinked the "space" char too much in order to look more decent.
Will be fixed in next release (if any). The remaining two are bugs in Gufiak's patches, so I don't know how to fix them. You have a good eye, btw wink.gif

Start playing the video (you can pause it if you like), then press "PLAY MODE", select "SEARCH MODE", select "TIME SEARCH", key in the time, and press "ENTER".

I wish there was a one-button way to get to "TIME SEARCH" -- ideally if you hold down "PLAY MODE" for longer. Anyone? Anyone?

It works, thank you m8 smile.gif

Hi Rubens, I'm from Brazil too. (...) My player model is the same as yours. Which FW do you feel is the best for us, considering it's usefulness (subtitles, etc.). I'm using 1.09.03 from subz3ro. Have you tried this mod? It features a 1252 codepage and, to my taste, has a better look (and, if that's you are asking, it has only 1 font size - very large). And the original 1.20 FW from Pioneer, have you tried to install?

You're right, Luiz, the better Code Page for portuguese language is CP1252. This night I tested
the 1.09.03 firmware from Gufiak & subz3ro. The new background is GREAT, and seems that
the fixes included in this package make it a great firmware.

I don't like the unique "very large" font option too (I prefer more size options for the same Code
Page), but... it's free, right? For the price it costs, is a fantastic firmware, better than the original
one from Pioneer.

And yes, I note que missing "2x", "3x", "4x" on OSD when you fast-forwarding. But better
than nothing that NOW we have some options for velocity...

If you want more options for subtitles' size, you can do as follows:

1. Download MTKFontCreator
2. Create your favorit fonts using your favorit CodePage (for example Windows or Special Code Page 1252, Arial Narrow, Outline 1, Width div. by 4, Size 20, 22, 24, 26)
3. Save files with newly created fonts. Now you have 4 files with 4 sizes of fonts
4. Download MTKRemaker.
5. Open Firmware 1.09.03 by Gufiak and Subz3ro (or any other wink.gif ) with MTKRemaker 0.22
6. Go to MT13x9 -> Data Part -> OSD -> OSD1 Visuals -> Fonts
7. Rightclick "Font 8", choose "Replace" and replace with your previously created fonts with lowest high (f.e. Arial Narrow 20) .
8. Do the same with "Font 9", "Font 10", "Font 11" replacing with bigger and bigger fonts.
9. When replacing is done, save firmware, burn CD, upgrade your player.

Now you can choose 4 sizes of fonts in your favorit FW. Too easy wink.gif

Have a good fun modding smile.gif

Call me chicken, but I guess I'm too afraid to do this... after all my player is just 2 weeks old and here in Brazil we pay *a lot* on imported electronics.

THanks you for adives, picture and attention. I've made my player alive.

These experiments are only to proove that I can realive player after some playing with FW.
Now I'll be searching for possibility to add access to mp3 files by pressing numbers. It's pity that no any advice for this ;(

I wish you good luck. I was asking the same question related to mp3 search and play next folder automaticaly time ago. There was no answer like today to you.
My advice: maybe it is not necessary to search directly for files, also direct access to folder by number should be helpfull through RC.
Now there is one way which I use for mp3 (One!) folders listening (no TV necessary):
1. press Play mode once
2. for first time press down key 4 times
3. press right key twice
4. enter folder number through RC and press Enter

Different folder: follow 1., 3. and 4. step

I would also appreciate moving between folders by Up and DOWN key

I hope you will be successful

But if I'd made wanted changes to FW I'll write to conference at once.

I don't know, if the options are still in the menu, probably not, but there's a little board you can solder in the DVD player that converts the l/r DAC's digital input to SPDIF. You get the exact same digital data going to the l and r channels thru an other SPDIF output.

This is not fonts' fault. There is a bug in original 1.09 pioneer's fw. The picture is a little bit off center than it should be, if your player is connected to tv-set with Scart (RGB) cable. This bug is not fixed in modded fw, because it is not so easy. It looks you have to get used with it or center the picture in service menu of your tv-set.

Compared to subz3ro's FW, my impression is that the fonts are a little more to the right.

Anyone made any special firmwares for DV-383 and DV-588, was thinking of starting to add this to the FAQ pages aswell.

I've bought the DV-393 S but the original firmware is very poor as usual biggrin.gif
Only 8 character for filename, no audio personalization, ecc... death.gif

The original firmware installed is 1.16... but seems equal at the original 380 firmware...

Is it possible to install the Gufiak firmware?
Or there is some hardware difference that doesn't permit this???

Hi,

Until now, no one did that, yet. You may be a "pioneer" and try to do that, but no one knows if it is safe. I tried to extract firmware from this player, but even I was doing it in a proper way, the player died. The same happened when some other mate tried to do it. So until now no one knows exactly, if dv380 and dv393 firmwares are simillar, enough.
Attention! If there is anyone here, who may confirm that fw for dv380 can be loaded to dv393, or there is anyone who have original fw for dv393, please share your knowlage. I reward it with a bottle of good Polish Vodka biggrin.gif

Here's Pioneer Firmware v1.09.03/Gufiak-Subz3ro-CP1250

Muchas gracias a Gufiak y SubZero.

I can't seem to load this version?!? The zipped file is not a bin file either. Has anyone tried loading this version? What I am really interested is a background with no logo at all or at least a "soft", transparent background. I'm not even sure if there is such a thing as a blank background?? I've read the tutorial on creating your own background but it requires you to have a bmp file. Doing this is kinda thing is beyond my skill level so if anyone has the latest FW 1.09.03 with no background, please post.

I have a plasma and I can see some image retention (this goes away eventually). Not a big deal but if I can avoid it, the better (the red logo is so harsh on the plasma).

thanks! btw...great discussion!

ok I was able to figure out how to do this myself! I read through the posts and found the thread by gufiak indicating how to change the background here. Only problem I ran into was that the MTKMpeg Tool didn't have the convert.bat file. Didn't matter since this is a blank bmp. Long story short, I was able to get rid of background. Hi there... new to the forums.

Just picked up a Pioneer DV-588... was wondering if someone could post a link to the firmware I need to download and install in order to make it region-free, and also explain what process I need to go through to enable it (sequence of buttons or whatever).

The reason I ask is because this thread is MASSIVE, and it would save me a TON of time if someone could just post a direct link and explanation because I'd be able to bypass reading for 2-3hours.

If anyone can do that, it'd be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

I just upgraded using gufiaks 1.09.02. My DV-588 still isn't region free and it won't play my region 4/3/2 DVD's. I tried holding down the enter button, but it didn't work.

Can someone actually give a competent explanation as to what is needed to be done to enable Region 0 please?

Hi Xenos, welcom to the borad,

Here's the link you're looking for :

http://www.pioneerfaq.info/english/dv585.p...stion=Firmwares

To make your player Region free, you have to press enter (the little one on the remote) in the main "Pioneer" logo window for a few seconds. If you want to cancel this, you have to press Clear a few seconds on the welcome screen.

Xenos,
When you get used with 1.09.02 upgrade your player with 1.09.03. (or do it now). This fw is newer and got some very usefull additionals wink.gif

I also have a Pioneer DV-588, need the CP-1252 version of the firmware
(for Brazilian Portuguese language) and I have the SAME problem you are.

The problem is our friend Chifu (from Buenos Aires) alters a firmware
version 1.09.03.00 for CP-1252 but name it in a wrong way, with lowercase
characters.

All you have to do is RENAME the file to B5CA1096.BIN (all uppercase).
Just do it, and you'll be able to update the DV-588.

This firmware is on post #1062, and the link fot it is:

Hi folks,
I'd like to inform you, that it looks like centering divx subtitle window that subz3ro did in his modification, fixed a little bug in showing subtitles. On original Gufiak's fw, sometimes, last, one or two letters in subtitle line, was cut off. We were looking for a reason of that, and couldn't find good solution.
Now, as I carefully chacked it for last two days, cuting off last letter in subtitle line, does not happen any more, using a firmware with centered subtitle window.
Thanks to all people that reported subtitles in a wrong possition smile.gif

I see people have been downloading the no background logo version. To all the people that downloaded Hifner's mod!!! Because, we have found corrupted file in download section of our forum, that might be modified by Hinfer, please DO NOT USE Hifner's modification until he releases the new one. Since now, the new, 7 times checked, proper fw 1.09.03.01 is in our download section again, at http://forum.pioneerdivx.net.
If you use Subz3ero's last modified fw, you will have the right one, with fixed last letter subtitle cut off, too. Subz3ros modification has all newest implements, just change background for blank black, if you wish.
So please upgrade your player again, if you use Hifner's mod now. Otherwise you may expect desinchronization of video and audio in some xvid files.

I've checked Hinfer's file. Fortunately, it looks right with no bug. You can use it without mentioned above problems.

hi i've installed latest gufiak firmware downloaded from pioneerfaq.info on my 686A but the filebrowser isnt displaying long filenames sad.gif

edit: i think possibly not many ppl have experience with the 686A player? but as far as i can tell it is running the identical firmware to the models in the topic and everything else is working perferctly after i updated

just the filenames are still only 8 characters and as being able to view the full filenames was one of the main reasons i upgraded i'm a bit sad sad.gif

much thanks to gufiak and everyone else who has take then time to post their findings with these players, its a great help to the likes of me who don't RTFM and just want to put the dvd in and have everything work laugh.gif

its good to know some of the problems are known bugs and not me stuffing up eg the disappearing subtitles rolleyes.gif

anyway any help with my short filenames would be appreciated inlove.gif

Hello everyone. I recently purchased a Pioneer dv-383 and the first thing I did after reading 20+ pages in this thread was upgrade the firmware to version 1.0.9.03.00 - I'm very happy with the additions but in the past couple of months I've noticed a couple of minor issues.

Firstly - I have burned a dvd-r with a "video_ts folder (containing .vob, .ifo & .bup files) on the root of the disc and also included a number of DivX avi files in another folder (also in the root).
The disc navigator function only plays the DVD portion (video_ts folder) of the disc. I cannot access the AVI files..

I also have a home made DVD-r (concert in 16:9) but when I play it on my 4:3 television the side of the picture is cut out. I have cycled through the different aspect ratios using the remote control (pressing and holding the "5" key) but I can't get it to display at 16:9 letterbox. I have tried different settings in the DVD player menu but I've had no luck. This disc worked fine on my Pioneer 533K player.

Thanks.

My player is Pioneer 585-A.
There is a bug in Gufiak's 1.09.03.01. When watching divx with external subtitles and press Display, to see data about the movie, the title is now displayed with small characters and one can see it all. But, after closing the Display function, the subtitle of the movie is displayed with the smallest font and cannot be reverted to the size chosen (big is the best for me) but after Stop, entering the Initial settings and resuming the movie. A simple fast forward/rewind doesn't restore the subtitle to the chosen size.
The fimware I used is from www.pioneerfaq.info.

Hi everybody. I noticed the DV-393 and it looks pretty good. I also looked at www.pioneerfaq.info, but I saw this: WMA/MP3/JPEG file playback on DVD-R/RW: No

Is this confirmed? Because the DV-490 can do it (which is basically the same player but with HDMI, no?). And is there a chance that this will be fixed?
