Maybe somewhat related. I have noticed quite a bit of jerkiness and even stalling for a couple of seconds. Sometimes its so bad I have to give up. I then tried them on the computer and played fine. These were dvd copies I copied in linux with k9copy. I have a dv 380 player with latest firmware. Maybe I should downgrade and try them.

I noticed some of those few times. But that was always the problem with DVD Disc. This was dirty or occured some errors during burning. Sometimes one wrong bit is enough. Please check, if this jerkinesses appears every time in the same place of a film, or it is random. wave.gif

I tried the same disk on a friends samsung player and seemed to play fine. Either the pioneer doesn't like the codecs from k9copy or it is dirty. I will try cleaning it tomorrow. But how come it can play dvdshink copy of the same disk? I don't think it's the disks or dirt because how come it can play others fine. K9copy uses Vamps

Here's one (an avi file ) the pioneer dv380 certainly had difficulty playing. This played fine in mplayer

Hi, All.

I've made changes in firmware 9.03.01-cp1252, that you can go to any mp3-file on disk by it's number (without use of browser).
You should only press the number and wait for player to start play it or press "enter" to confirm.
This mode also don't break playing on directory end.
Was checked on DV-380.

BTW. In 9.03.01 there is bug (I don't understand it) - no possibility to play music on some mp3/jpeg disk (when press "play"). It only play images. All was correct in 9.02!
So if Gufiak will apply my patches in his own releases - maybe he fixed it.

Well I think I may have discovered what is wrong and it is not K9copy. I believe the pioneer dv380 does not like the cheap disks (dvd-r). It also could be the speed at which I copied them.
Anyway I ripped the original dvd on to a memorex dvd+r at 4x and this played just fine.

I then copied in K3B the infiniti dvd-r I had that was faulty onto a memorex disk (dvd+r) and funny enough this played fine. I don't have a good dvd-r disk to try so that will have to wait but I will try the cheap dvd-r disks at a lower speed.

Hi.

I have a Pioneer 380 and was using version 1.0.9.2 of guifak's firmware until recently when I switched to the official 1.20. I am using scart to scart connection and was wondering if there was a firmware that fixes a problem I was having with both firmwares. When the player is on and I switch the channel and then turn off the player, instead of it leaving the previous channel it switches to AV mode which is really annoying so I was wondering if anyone has an idea how to fix this...

AV Connector Out is set to Video and the Interlance mode is on.
Thx in advance.

Anyone else having problems with pink floyd pulse - the new 2dvd set.

I have tried both the original 1.20 firmware and gufiak 1.09 firmware. This is really fuc... having just recieved it by mail, and it takes almost a minute to start playing, it then goes directly to the concert, instead of menu, if i press menu, again 1 minute wait, and i get to the extras menu, and can't get anywhere from there. If this is a pioneer bug, they better start working real fast

My player is a 585.

Have you been able to upgrade your player? or have you only tried it and it do not work?
You then need to rename the firmware so it suites the DV-383.

I do not remeber what name the firmware should have for the DV-383, but i recon someone will post it here.

I just tested the Pink Floyd -Pulse DVD on my DV-380, it workes just fine, Gufiak 1.09.03.01.
You might have got an faulty disc.
In my Dvd the disc takes about 10sec to load. It goes to the menu on the disc as it should do.

There is a little problem in the new subtitle recognition system...

I try to explain better:
I've a dvd with this files:

01.avi
01.srt
02.avi
03.avi
.
.
.
12.avi

When I read 01.avi the associated subs (01.srt) start correctly,
but if I read 02.avi it wrongly associates 01.srt and this is a bit insane deadtongue.gif
the same obviosly happens with all files always 01.srt appears...

The old "subtitle recognition system" (association by filename only) was better in my opinion...

You can always switch subtitles off, and the problem disapears, too easy.
An "old subtitle recognition system" works fine, but new one gives much more possibilities, especialy for the people, that has many films, recorded before thay bought the player.
If you just do not like it, the easyest way is to downgrade your player, with FW that has not this feature.

Naturally I can switch subtitle off but i use always the divx sub as "forced sub" for translation
of not dubbed part of the show and I always let the sub on... when the movie had "sub forced" they started...

the problem is with series... I've to switch sub off for all file only because the first had the subs...

Apart for this problem I like the new firmware and don't think to downgrade...

Will be possible on the next firmware to choose "the sub recognition system"???
It will be the optimum tongue.gif

Hi,
It looks like your patch works fine. Great job, although I guess I'v found a little bug in it. I noticed once, that when pressing STOP during playing .avi file movie stops, the notification about pressing STOP again apears but the screen from the movie stays as it was, instead to switch to backgroung. I press Stop again to stop playing movie, last picture from the movie stays as it was still. Pressing Menu, filebrowser apears, and choosing different movie, starts playing previous movie again. Then pressing stop twice makes it stop runing. Funny, and it apeared only once, and may be there was other reson for it tongue.gif
I noticed that all mp3 at the disc are virtualy numbered one after the other, no metter wich catalog it is, but the herarchy of catalogs stays still. It is that, let say, in one cataloge we have mp3s named:
aaa1
bbb1
ccc1
ddd1
and in the second catalogue we have:
aaa2
bbb2
ccc2
ddd2
so for example, to choose the file "aaa2", it has to be choosen number 5 from remote, and to choose "ccc1" number 3.
Patron, I wonder if there are any other feauters in your patch?
I wrote you a private message, if you can share your patch, with some tutorial, that we can implement this patch to fw for 470/575 players, too.
Thanks for a grate job. peacefingers.gif

Hello. I've got two problems.

I just patched my Pioneer DV-380 with Gufiak's 1.09.03 firmware. Everything else works just fine, but when I turn off the DVD player, the screen stays black. I can change between different TV channels, but there's no picture at all - I can only hear the sound. I tried to plug off Pioneer's and TV's power cord, but that didn't help. When I plugged off Pioneer's Scart cord, the problem was gone, but as soon as I plug it back, the screen goes black again. No matter if the player is turned off. Any idea what's going on?

The second problem is, that when I watch DivX movies, some alphabets look a bit different. Finnish letters such as Ä and Ö don't show up. I didn't have this problem either, until I used Gufiak's firmware.

I hope you can help me with these problems.

Hi, in the first case, you are refering to the already known RGB bug. You either disconnect the cable, or turn the player on and in the initial settings/connector out/AV connector (or something like that) instead RGB choose the other option, that will resolve the problem, although the RGB output has better quality.
The firmwares 1.20 and up don't have this bug anymore, but they don't have all the gufiak extras also. Perhaps in a near future.

In the second case, you must have selected the wrong codepage for your language; some moded firmwares let you choose these codepages, others have only one codepage, but let you choose the subtitles size instead.
But if your problem is on the Ä and Ö letters, those are implemented in several codepages, including Eastern European (codepage 1250) an Latin (codepage 1252). Find out what codepage you have and change it, or get a firmware that has one of those two I mentioned.

Edited, because of incomplete sentences confusedsmiley.png
No-Worries
If you press the AV/TV button on your remote control you should get the TV picture back regardless if the player is set to RGB.

At www.pioneerfaq.info you will find the firmware with the codepage you need.

Nope, that doesn't help.

Any idea if Gufiak is working on a new firmware to fix this RGB problem?
Faustus
I installed Gufiak's version 1.09 firmware upgrade in my Pioneer DV-588S-a. It seemed to install fine. I then held down the enter key for five seconds in order to set it to zero region. The screen went blue and then the player turned off. When I turned it back on, the graphic looked like it was displying on a larger screen so that the bottom part of it was cut off and it was in black and white, or gray, instead of its normal coloring.

I tried reinstalling the firmware and that did nothing.
I tried resetting the system by holding "stop" while I turn on the player. This resets it to Gufiak's firmware with a normal, colored screen. But everytime I turn off the player, it automatically reverts to the gray, cut-off screen.

I looked around on this forum and havn't found any similar problems, however I did discover that I pushed the wrong enter button. I pushed the one in the middle of the remote and not the one near the number keys. Any ideas on how I can fix this? Is there a newer firmware that's safe to install on the 588S-a?

The player seems to work fine (except for a few weird quirks, like the menu screens seem to be altered for some DVDs and the previous chapter button only goes to the beginning of the current chapter and not to anything before...)

Any advice is appreciated. Much thanks!

Problem!!!
I 'm using gufiacs 1.09.03 fw after using 1.09.02 for long time and beeing satisfied.
but last weeks my DVDplayer (585) starts shuting down by itshelf.
In details. I was watching a divx movie and after 20mins the player went off like somebody took it out of the plug. I started thinking about the plug, but everything was ok.
Later the effect started being more often. so now the player shuts down whenever you try to play a movie. It can't be the plug as the player stays o nfor long time without playing but as soon as you select a movie and press ok it shuts down.
Any idea anyone?? has anybody the same problem?? I hven't seen any report similar to this forum. Might it be a hardware proble or a software??
Any help appreciated. Thanks

UPDATE
Now shuts down on disc loading, and is doing it also on DVDvideo discs. (Before I had not tryed it)

The first thing to do is to re-install the previous firmware, and check if the problem is still there or not.

Ok I installed fw 1.20 but the problem remains. Whenever a DVDVideo disc, or a disc with divx movies is etered, it starts the loading process and the shuts down. Do you think it might be hardware problem?? Or it might need cleaning of the head?? btu why shuts down??
Anyone with similar problem??

1.20 original fw installed right on the DV-588. Everything's functioning normally.
Would anybody be kind enough to tell me differences between version 1.04 (stock) and 1.20? I could only notice that stopping MPEG-4 once and pushing Menu now enter the actual folder instead of leaving to the root.
Thanks a bunch!

P.S.: any known improvements to version 1.04.

Can I change the .srt subtitle font into something that really looks like the normal DVD subtitle??
Another thing is it won't support chinese character in .srt file.

Can I convert the .srt files to .sup n burn directly into the DVD with my .avi??

Thx.

kstam, it's a hardware problem, not firmware. You should go to the service centre with your player.

Hi

Is there any utility could be used to convert .SRT to ".IDX/.SUB" ?

I downloaded .SRT file, it is a text file (small size),
but I need to convert it to "IDX+SUB".
Because "IDX+SUB" contain all the font bitmap, they are much larger
than .SRT file. I can then burn divx file with "IDX+SUB" and play it on
my Pioneer DV383 DVD player.
gufiak
http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareTxt2Vobsub.html

or

Make .son subtitles with MaestroSBT and use Son2VobSubMod (a little bit of googling and you will find it) to make sub+idx subtitles.

I tried burning 2 video files wif its' subtitle in a same folder. The .idx/.sub have the same name as the video file, eg, cd1.avi + cd1.sub + cd1.idx + cd1.srt. There is subtitle selection but nth is shown on the screen. Plz help.

Thx.

Change logs are very hard to obtain, I would say nearly impossible to get.

strange probelm seen on the latest modded gufaik's frmware. Am using mod of Gufaik's fw, it hs a Gray pioneer logo with Ntsc, not shure whos fw is this.

I hv 2 folder
Jurassic.Park.I -->Jurassic_Park_1.avi and srt file
Jurassic.Park.II -->Jurassic_Park_The_Lost_world.avi and the srt file.
The file browser shows the full name of the files.

Now i play 1st file for some time say 5mins, stop it and go to 2nd folder and play part2, but it plays from part1 from where i stop!

Is this something like while playing the fw just checks only few chars in the file name like abv, the common chars are Jurassic_Park_, after this its different, may be it accounts only Jurassick, and thats y it paly still part1 when i try to play part2?

to play part 2 after playing part 1, i hv to play someother file, stop and comeback to part2 to play it !

Is this seen on Gufail's fw also ?\
can any1 confirm this ?

thanks

You just ignored player's report.
When you press Stop once, the player displays a report: To resume press Play to stop press Stop. (Or something that way) If you press Stop once and then choose other film and press Play, the player resume playing last stoped movie. That is not a bug. To play other movie, you have to press STOP twice first, than choose the movie.

Newbie question.
I have a US version of the Pioneer DV-588a (not 588a-s). I have followed instructions for using nero to update my firmware as described in Gufiak's original firmware. No success.

I followed the instructions here for the latest and greatest on divXpert here with no success: http://mtz.softpedia.com/index.php?option=...70&Itemid=4

I followed these instructions as listed here http://www.pioneerfaq.info/english/dv585.p...stion=Firmwares with no success:
Update instructions
Settings in NERO:
DATA CD
Multisession -- No Multisession
ISO -- Data mode = Mode 1
- File system = ISO 9660 only
- File name lenght (ISO) = Max of 11 = 8+3 chars ( level 1)
- character set = ISO 9660
Label -- PIONEER <--Capital letters-- i allways use "manual"
Burn -- 4x
Verify writen data

In each case, Nero never permits me to write at a speed slower than 8x. That being the only difference from the proferred instructions above, every time I place the new burned CD in the 588a I get an error saying "Can't read disc." Any ideas? Who has succeeded at this and what am I doing wrong.

If someone could give me detailed instructions and the appropriate firmware (I am only interested in making my player region free), I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

I have burnt them at 8X and had no problems. Not sure why the instructions say not to.

Are you using a CD-R? (Do not use a DVD.)

It looks you burn right, the only that you do not write is if you burn Disc-at-once (DAO) ore Track-at-once TAO). You should choose DAO. Burning speed is not so important. Many times I burned upgrade CD at x24 and it worked fine, too.
And try to burn CD-RW instead of CD-R. I do not know why, but in some cases it helped. Anyway, burnig CD-R to upgrade the player is a waste, as you never use this CD any more smile.gif

Any speed is actually good to use. Why I say 4x is becouse i'm of the old school, slower is better biggrin.gif

Anyway there is a Burn Guide that is better then the quick guide: Burn Guide
dinderi
According to NoWorries's Burn Guide I would like only to correct that:
10. Bin file name MUST be in CAPITAL letters that includes also the BIN.
No-Worries
If you do as the guide tells you, it dosent matter if the filename is in small letters when you move it to the burn window, the ISO settings takes care of it and makes it CAPITAL letters smile.gif

g125, please, write here filename of firmware which you are trying to load.

I finally got B5CA1096.BIN from the RAR file in your very first post to work. Everything looks great, but when I hold down the enter key to switch to region free mode, the player shuts off. When I turn it on again, the video flickers like crazy. Before I even put in a disc, the gufiak background and menu screen are barely readable. It's as if it doesn't recognize the correct screen resolution. I'm reading through the many posts in the forum to find a solution, but if you get to this first, let me know what you recommend.

Hi g125,

I have the DV-588A-S (same as your's except for the color) and I had the same problem the first time I tried to update it.

The problem you describe is "normal". When you change the firmware, it puts your DVD into "multi-sync" mode. You have to put it in "NTSC" mode to match your TV signal.

First, you have to get the latest firmware by Gufiak :
http://www.pioneerfaq.info/click/click.php?id=76

Do the update again as you've done it before (follow the instructions and DON'T touch anything until the Pioneer logo gets back).

Then, before you put it in "region free" mode, or if the signal is still "crazy" after the update, use the following keys on the remote control :

Home Menu
Down
Down
Enter
Down
Right
Right
Down

Enter
Home Menu

Then, turn off your DVD player and turn it back on.

Good luck!
