Hello All,

I want to buy a DV-585 (especially because I think it's the best option for me as it can be updated with Gufiak's FW and has the analog 5.1 out : muchos respect!). But I've a question before I order it:

I need the 5.1 analog output for DVD-video Dolby Surround as my receiver has only analog inputs. I read somewhere that most dvd players with SA-CD and DVD-audio support only use the 5.1 output and that for Dolby Surround on dvd video you can only use the optical or coaxial out.

Can somebody tell me if the DTS or DD from DVD-video can also be forwarded to the analog outputs of the 585 (and also the center speaker for dialogs because that is the most heard problem on SACD DVD-audio player's analog outs)?

Thanks in advance.

And again: nice work Gufiak!
gufiak
This model has DD and DTS decoders and sound is present on analog outputs on such DVDs.

Hi Gufiak,

We all know that you are doing this firmware changes in your free time and it is not wery polite to make pressure to you... but.. rolleyes.gif can you give us some info about release date of your new version? wink.gif

I'm especially interested in these two issues:

1) Playing divx with subtitles that are not same name as video file
2) Browsing video, pictures and music without ejecting CD

Thank you in advance cheers.gif

Hello to all !!

Firsti of all ,many thanks to Gufiack for the effort he put in improving the firmware .
I have some questions ,so i hope that someone could answer me .

1. What is the original firmware version that comes with pioneer 585 player , 1.09 ; 1.07 or other ?
2. I also have a problem with picture jerking after instaling the 1.09.02 firmware , and i red that with 1.07 runs smothly , but are the subtitles large enough in MPEG 4 movies like in 1.09.02 version ? Has anybody tried that ?

Thanks in advance
zalkku
First of all, thanks for modified firmware.

I have a little suggestion for background and filebrowser.

---
Filebrowser
Project @ PSP7
---

I have some problems with making my own version of gufiak's firmware.

---
I used this Tutorial
---

MTKMpegTool makes first an crappy quality jpeg file and then it will compress it to mpeg2 format, so result isn't so good.

I tryed make that mpeg2 file with TMPGEnc Plus (it makes really good quality mpeg2 compressing) but after that MTKRemaker won't let me change background, it just says invalid format.

If you look, inside the MTKMPEGtool folder, there'll be a .BAT file. Edit it and change the place where you find the value "1000" with a larger number. You can start with 8000, with should give much better quality. If you feel you still need more quality keep increasing the number.

In the audio settings (or is it in the Initial settings?) there is a feature that enhances the dialog in sound; you can turn it on or off.

greetings -

i've come across this site/board while researching for the best standalone dvd player (NTSC/PAL, region free, divx/xvid support) and am interested in these pioneer models that use gufiak's modified firmware.

so, an actual question smile.gif - where can i buy these in the USA? and, which one is the best?
also, is there a model that has these features with HDMI/hidef support?

i have searched the forum and the site and haven't found a FAQ

[edit: also, which codepage would i use for USA/English/NTSC?]

thanks in advance

Hello,
does anyone know if there exists a DVD recorder by Pioneer using the same fw and thus being able to play the divx files?

Errm, sorry but I think you have misunderstood something. With 5.1 channels, the dialogs are usually redirected to Center speaker. That's why you can NOT hear them in 5.1 through SCART cable connected to TV (on TV's internal 2.0 speakers).
The "Dialog" feature you meant, is to "enhance" dialog volume... it's crappy called on Pioneer, because it should be called Dynamic Compression or something, as it simply makes the dialogs "louder" and sfx sounds "quieter" - if not turned on, you usually can't hear what's talking about when there are, let's say, gun shots and explosions in the background wink.gif That has something to do with sound characteristics (amplitude VS frequency VS dB) - i.e. sounds in lower spectrum have wider amplitude (and more dB) than middle spectrum sounds with the same volume wink.gif But this would be for a longer discussion, though...

Anyway, thank you for taking care of me smile.gif

Well thanks for the firmware, but I'm able to do that by myself with that turorial, I just wonder:
Did you use that projectfile or only that jpeg filebrowser image which I post.
Is it made by that mtkmpegtool mm, frontend for .batfile.
You can have an better quality image by saving that project in bmp image format, and also you can have that backgroundimage also only showing that on psp layer options.

Yes I followed that guide, but it has one issue, if you look that .bat file by yourself you findout that mtkmpegtool will convert bmp file to jpeg image format. This is my problem, that jpg file is crappy, so changing bitrate to better won't help exacly because sourcefile has bad quality.
Thanks anyway.

Maby I just try using png2yuv in linux (I donno is it converted to win32binary). Maby looking mpeg2enc created file I will solve that issue by myself.

Yes, but after changing the extension to ogg.

I did on Sigmatek a little hack, that in extension table in ARM I changed type of OGG/OGM to same as AVI had.
Then it is not needed to rename OGG/OGM to AVI to be playable.
Try same thing to change OGM type to OGG type, then OGG routine will be applicated on OGM also. happy.gif
It is only one byte change (e.g. change type 03(OGM) to 05(OGG))

Simple. Instead of feeding MTKMPEGTool a BMP file, convert the BMP you have to the highest quality JPEG you can make (over here, they become virtually identical). tongue.gif That way your input image file will only be converted to MPG, nothing more and the end result will be great. Trust me I've done it and it does work. coolspeak.gif

Strange thing happened..
I played divx with subtitles, ejected this disc and inserted another disc that had some other divx but without subtitles... I played it with just pressing play button (without selecting video file from browser) but subtitles from previous divx showed on this movie eek.gif

..are we near to be able to select subtitle from totaly different folder to play with our divx? What you think Gufiak?

Hmm, thank You No-Worries for posting that...
What a version increase, btw (1.09 -> 1.15) smile.gif
Normally, such version increase means lots of fixes/improvements,
but in this case-- when we do not have Revision History file-- it's nothing to be sure of sad.gif

Thanks for advice. Now I can rest.

I created gufiak's modified firmware with my background and filebrowser.

MPEG 0 is NTSC 720x480 background.
MPEG 2 isn't like orginal firmware in NTSC 720x480 format, it's in 720x576 PAL format.
MPEG 3 is PAL 720x576 background.

If you set your dvdplayer to ntsc format it will use MPEG0 background and if it's in pal it will use MPEG3 background.

[attachmentid=374] So, here is my version of gufiak's firmware if someone like to use it. Mirror

Funny, That firmware version will lose subtitle on mpeg4 movies if you use FF or RR keys. Pressing Subtitle button will say there isn't any subtitles.

Due to problems with 1.09 (jittering playback of MPEG4 with subtitles), I tried to 1.07 as someone else in the DB suggested, claiming that it was jitter-free. It was. I also, out of curiosity, tried 1.08, also free of jitter. My question is: what is the difference between 1.07 and 1.08? I didn't notice anything.

One feature that I really liked about 1.09 was that, by pressing the number 5 key, you could switch from full screen to 16x9 at will. This is useful when you watch Dvix/XviD files and find yourself on the 16x9 mode, you don't have to step out to the browser in order to switch modes.

Just nitpicking,

thanks to all.

The "person in DB" was/is me smile.gif
So you say that 1.08 doesn't stutter from playing of MPEG-4 w/ subtitles as well?
Gufiak, this is useful information, IMHO... as there are less modifications in ARM code between 1.09 and 1.08, than between 1.09 and 1.07. This way, it should be definetely possible to fully investigate what was changed and what is potential reason of "jerkiness" issue.
Timbero, have you also tried with new (1.15) firmware? I don't have much time to play with it (lot of work in the office this week), so I can't compare huh.gif

Hi Subz3ero. Sorry about not giving you proper credit.

I really liked having all those choices with the 1.09 firmware upgrade. However, I'm now wondering if there's something wrong with my player itself. It freezes and skips with some movies indiscriminately. I'm still within the period that I could take it back and, either get another one or obtain a refund.

Actually, because of the above problem I re-setted the machine back to the factory firmware, but guess what? It remained region-free despite the change. That's good, but still freezes on some movies. I keep my disks clean and clean those I rent prior to playing them.

I'll load 1.15 tonight and report on it tomorrow. I wonder though if my finds are valid since there might a be a problem with the machine itself.

Well... ARM codes in these firmwares are indentical. So it's strange...
BTW, changing ARM code is better solution than changing 8032 code. ARM code has much less modifications then 8032 code.

Sorry for going on my word, but, I'm having problems opening that file with both WinZip or WinRar. Both programs tell me that's something is corrupt with the files. I'm too tired to keep at it.

Tomorrow will be another day, and perhaps, I'll give it another shot. I'm too tired tonight.

my experiences with sacd / hybrid on DV-380-K

1. hybrid cd´s can be player with original fw 1.09 without problems
2. hybrid cd´s can be played with guifak fw 1.09.02 only when under options -> sacd -> cd-bereich (3) is selected. If zweikanal (1) or mehrkanal (2) is selected the hybrid-cd isnt recognized, in the display dvd is standing and on monitor disc cant be played.

3. sacd cant be played with original fw 1.09
4. sacd cant be played with guifak fw 1.09.02 (no matter what is selected under options -> sacd. The same error-message on monitor (disc cant be played) and the display of the dvd-player shows DVD

Maybe this can help.

somewhere in another forum (sh.. i cant remember where) was mentioned that modified fw for pioneer can only play 2channel sacd and never 5.1sacd

I see only one change - added support for some yamaha player which is a clone of one of pioneer players. In this version appeared yamaha icon. So these pioneer players has or will have two clones: yamaha and onkyo. Onkyo because in 1.07 appeared also onkyo icon.

i have written that the second-function keys dont work at my dv-380.
That isnt correct.

When i play a DVD keys 1 and 4 increase and decrease volume but nothing changes between 20..1 When it reaches 0 sound is of.
Key 5 mute on/off is ok
The pitch keys dont work.

When i play a CD keys 1 anf 4 work ???????? and also the pitch keys work. When you turn of the player the pitch setting is resetted (fine) BUT every change you make in audio setting (bass, treble, super bass, virtual) are stored and any media played uses this settings. I dont like this feature because if i play a cd i want to play it 100% pur without any change. I dont understand why this changes work digital. So the only way is to hold stop and power to reset the player (i dont turn on tv when i play a cd, so i dont know the settings).

A dangerous behaviour is that changes you make in modified fw are not reseted by stop+power ore by original fw. DVD-FastStart is on even if you reset the player. So if you plan to go back to original fw it is not sure that all settings are reset. Is this correct or nor ?????

The big bug fix in version 1.15 is that in pre versions of the firmware when you set your AV Connector Out to RGB, when you then turned off your player your TV screen would go black, not showing any picture but you could hear the TV sound.
