No, it isn't.
There are only two things I've been saying that I dislike and the two I have already described. I think your firmware is great despite the fact that I haven't tried it yet. But I'm one very thankful for your work. All of the changes are very appreciated but I don't really miss them.
Thanks for your reply!

Thanks for the excellent firmware Gufiak.

Does anyone know how to change highlighted text background at the file navigator from yellow to a different color?

[attachmentid=374] So, here is my version of gufiak's firmware if someone like to use it. Mirror
Funny, That firmware version will lose subtitle on mpeg4 movies if you use FF or RR keys. Pressing Subtitle button will say there isn't any subtitles.

First Thanks to GUFIAK for firmware - what a master!
Second I have tried to edit the firmware and insert my own graphics by following the guide using PS, MKT, and MPEGTool. But when I replace with new graphics try as I might the CD won't be read as firmware. Any hints? Please?

Indeed, the clones are Yamaha DVD-S657 and Onkyo DV-SP503 for Pioneer DV-585 and Yamaha DVD-S557 and Onkyo DV-SP403 for Pioneer DV-380.
I can't agree. Yamaha DVD-S557 and DVD-S657 are probably Philips clones, Onkyo DV-SP503E and DV-SP502E are Pioneer DV-575A clones and Onkyo DV-SP403 is probably a Pioneer DV-380 clone.

Use MtkWindows. Open the firmware, jump to 0x0D window and change yellow color on palette to your own color.

Probably the file extension is lower case. Firmware file name should look like this:
B5CA1096.BIN
but not like this:
B5CA1096.bin
or like this:
b5ca1096.bin
Whole file name should be upper case.

Hmm, funny how laxily people read the instructions... as there is always stated "burn with ISO9660 without Joliet". Indeed, when there is no Joliet, all filenames are treated as 8+3 filenames, i.e. there is no case difference for any filename wink.gif

Hi,

I was about to buy a Pioneer DV-380 in the shop until the sales guy in the shop could not make the player regionfree with the special remote. So i refused buying then. I am wondering...is the firmware here regionfree? Could i just do it by updating the machine with the firmware on a burned disc? Which file do i need?...Pioneer's website has nothing.
I also heard there are different hardware DV-380...is this true? The weird thing is...a few weeks ago i bought a DV-380 for my bro in the same shop. At that time there was another sales guy who could make that player regionfree...now recently this sales guy had a day off and his coworker knew also how to make it regionfree...but the player just did not reacted on the signal of the special remote device....so i am curious.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Regards,
LR.

Blacker than black problems occur if during a really dark scene in the movie, black appears like a grey blob, as if the player can't display it correctly. It was reported with this player that it didn't pass the blacker than black test. I believe with dv-575, it was corrected with a firmware upgrade.

As I've read in one of the tests all range of mediatek based players have the same "blacker than black" issue, not only Pioneer ones.
Unfortunatelly none of the latest Pioneer fws can solve it. If it can be solved at all by chaging code in fw.
As far as I know only Zoran based players can correctly represent black colors in shadows. Correct me, if I'm wrong.

I have read somewhere that the mediatek chip that the dv588 uses CAN perform blacker than black, and its only a matter of essentially "turning it on" in the firmware. this was an issue in one of the former pio players (the 575 i believe) in which a new firmware actually implemented a new setting in the menu to turn it on.

Being a recent owner of 380 - and VERY frustrated about the "output RGB"-bug (sound, but black screen when turning the 380 off) - I was eagerly reading all the posts in this topic and seriously considering to use gufiak's FW, until I found the post that said Pioneer has fixed the RGB-bug in version 1.15.

Version 1.15 is now on my 380 - and it works like a charm: No more RGB-bug. But will the current "gufiak-version" return the RGB-bug? Or will gufiak (please?) make a new version based on the 1.15 FW from Pioneer?

BTW: I second the wish for keeping the Pioneer-logo on the screen. If it really is that simple to remove - let those remove it who wants to ;-)

Many thanks that was exactly the problem - many apologies for my tardiness

You inserted a *BYE* display message when switching off, any suggestions on how one can change this?

This firmware is such marked improvement - it is most impressive have a DV 383 and DV380 and my 383 had not been multiregioned by techs even though it was sold as a multiregion. Your firmware saved a lot of hassles and then further improved on original - but then you know this. Just wanted to mention my sincere thanks.

Hello ppl.

I'm a recent owner of a Pioneer 585A-S and i wanted to know if anyone as played succefully any OGM file with builtin subtitles.

I tried various files (mostly anime) with double-audio tracks and subtitles but not been able to display the subtitles of anyone of them. It only worked with external subtitles.

Is this a common problem and can it be solved by any of the resident firmware magicians?

Stay cool cool.gif

[attachmentid=409] I have also translated whole OSD Language in Finnish, but is there a possible to add this in the firmware?
If there isn't this work is useless, but I haven't test it in dvdplayer, I don't know how it will work in it. I will improve it if someone would tell me how to add this in firmware by using MTK-kind tools.

Thanks for that url, there sure is some sweet pics/wallpapers.
I'm been using deviantART a lot, but it is hard to find image witch will look good in filebrowser.
I will make some more modified mpeg2files, but I will wait the next gufiak's modified firmware.
btw, in that convert.bat you can add an option -q 1 (after mpeg2enc.exe" ) witch will make even better qualitycompressing.
but wait... what about the copyright? ... mm. well.. ehh, crap.

That finOSD file... it has more than 1000lines, I'm really hoping that someone can findout howto add that in firmware (so I can use it, findout bugs and typos). By translating I find out in pioneer's firmware is a lot more hidden staff such as karaoke (but wait, what about mic).

Here's my problem:

I purchased every episode of MST3K from a guy off the internet. When they arrived, they were in DivX format. Okay. To alleviate that problem I bought a Pioneer DV-588A-S. Now we get to the issue. On every disc I play, I can only view video from the first file on the disc. Each subsequent file I can get audio, but no video. Disc navigation, chapter search, nothing moves the picture. I know the discs themselves are okay, because they'll play from my DVD-ROM in my PC. Any ideas at all?? I would really be grateful if someone can help me with this. I hope I didn't just throw away $130 for nothing. Thanks.

Maybe you should try to burn a new CD with each .avi file in separate folder. Try with one of your CDs, you won't lose anything except one blank CD.
I do not have any other idea for solving your problem, but I know that multiple .avi (DiVX) files on one DVD-R worked OK for me (with original firmware, it's not necessary to be Gufiak's), and it's a feature that is formally supported by Pioneer, but i've tried it only with each file in its own folder so I don't know if it's mandatory to organize files like that or not.
If the files are already in separate folders than I really don't know how to help you.

The big bug fix in version 1.15 is that in pre versions of the firmware when you set your AV Connector Out to RGB, when you then turned off your player your TV screen would go black, not showing any picture but you could hear the TV sound.

Oh, christ, I had this problem not knowing what is causing this! Thought it was a scart problem of my tv. I fixed it though by connecting pioneer to scart-2 on my tv. To all who have encountered subtitles causing jerkiness in playback with Gufiak's firmware

Wtf, the reason for that is the font (yes, you're reading right - FONT!!) used in Gufiak's modified firmware. No ARM code bug, no processor bottleneck issue... f***ing font, dammit puke.gif
Okay, enough of frustration... if you wanna get rid of that issue, just replace the corresponding font (one or more, depending on the firmware you are using) with some other -- I have made a simple font with MtkFontCreator -- and update with this firmware.
From this moment on, there will be no jerky playback, everything works fine smile.gif

Gufiak Have you made some special transition to the font?
Let's say, like you have not used some obligatory option in MtkFontCreator?
I mean, your font is looking awesome, not like the one I made in MtkFontCreator now,
but it seems there is something in conflict with the firmware.
Are they even made on regular font base, using MtkFontCreator?
Haven't you omitted to use, let's say, "Widths are a multiple of 4" option? (indeed, I can see your chars are more "stucked" than mine - it looks definetely better, but might be causing the jerkiness)
Anyway, I hope bringing this new fact to light will help you finding the reason of that problem, and all will be fine in your further firmware. coolspeak.gif

I will just let you know that I'm experience the same jerkiness with my player (using gufiaks mod fw) and it is a bit frustrating. It looks like the problem is not static. If I see a problem in a scen its not sure that the problem remains if I FR and watch the scen again. I didn't had this problem with 1.04 so its not the media or the player.

For me is this the top most wanted fix in a new modified release.

Yes, it is the most annoying bug right now.... anyway, it can be fixed as written in my previous message - nothing really complicated, I think everybody should be able to do that on his own. Just give it a try and you will see it really IS beacuse of font conflict smile.gif

Okay, I can confirm what I supposed.
The problem with font (which results in jerkiness/jittering in playback when showing subtitles on TV screen) is the key option Widths are a multiple of 4 in MtkFontCreator.
When not checked, any font you make (somehow) is in conflict with 380/585 firmware, and results in jerkiness/jittering issue.

Gufiak, lechu mentioned that there were no such problems with 470/575 firmware, but fonts from this firmware (when used in 380/585 firmware) result in problems. Probably it is some issue for ARM code, so I was partially wrong in one of my previous messages...

Hi,

if it is possible in next firmware release add a possibility (on RC) to remove black bars on top and bottom of the screen. In 4/3 movie these bars hide a part of the movie.

Thank you,

When I select subtitle language (for DVD subs) and I'm selecting swedish, the only option is SW, but I think that Swedish uses SV so I have to edit the code myself.

OSD in finnish. French osd has been replaced with finnish osd.

How to make new option on that osd language change menu?

Kielioppivirheet ja muut ongelmat suomennoksessa mieluiten PM viestinä.

Pioneer Dv-2850/380/383/585/588 Ohjelmistopäivitys
v.01.09.02.00 by gufiak
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Tämä päivitys perustuu gufiakin modifioimaan ohjelmistopäivitykseen.
- Ranskan kieli on korvattu suomen kielellä.
- Päivitys käyttää oletuksena englannin kieltä, tämä siksi että suomennoksessa
saattaa olla joitain kielioppivirheitä.
- Olen koittanut kirjoittaa firmwaren kokonaan kirjakielellä, joitain
kielioppivirheitä saattaa ilmaantua?
- Muutettu tausta ja tiedostoselain pioneerin alkuperäisten kaltaisiksi.
- Fontit on muutettu divx toistossa esiintyneiden ongelmien takia
(Arial 18 Bold, 1 Outline) MtkFontCreator ohjelmalla.
- Päivitys on ISO9660-levykuvana, käytä esim. Nerossa tallennin->polta image
(B5CA1096.ISO) levy kerralla valinnalla.
- Zip paketti sisältää myös pelkän suomenkielen työstötiedoston.

MPEG4 movie information (DISPLAY button) will show filename, but it will use same font as mpeg4subtitle. Strange.

Maby someday this finlang could be with gufiak's firmware, but it seems that 1.15 orginal firmware uses diffirent space chars than old one.

And why there is in gufiaks modded firmware six chars at begin of font?
In orginal firmware there isn't those chars.
