I'm new here and have a question about gufiak's firmware: It seems to be great, but the only thing I'm missing is deactivation of Macrovision. Do you think there is a chance to have it turned off in the future?

i've noticed that when a line is quite big the last letters are cut instead of becoming a second line. if i remember well with some fw is used to split big lines instead of cutting them, any thoughts?

Yes, this is sometimes annoying. Personally, I'm forced to adapt all my subtitles (before buring to the DVD) with 40 chars per line via SubtitleWorkshop.
Anyway,
gufiak did it already in the past (for 470/575 firmware) and if everything will work as expected, I was told he will do it for current 380/575 firmware as well-- so we just have to wait for awhile

Hmm, it's really simple to make new fonts with
any codepage.
For instance, I used the
Haettenschwailer font to create CP1253 fonts...
With the help of two MTK program tools (MtkFontCreator, MtkRemaker), it is very easy then (see attached example for obvious settings). This font supports many codepages, afaik (if you don't have it already installed, it's in the attachment as well). There is even very low probability that you will scramble something when you do it like that

First of all congratulations to all of you who have made a great job on those firmwares ...
My question is simple ... Is there any of those firmwares based on 1.09.02 that has the French language available for the Setup Menu and the OSD stuff ??
Thanks for the information ...

Thanks subz3ro, I made it and nothing scrambled

I've created a CP1254 font with Haettenschwailer font. (Copied from your jpg file ;-)
But I want to know, what are the font sizes for Small-Medium-Large and Very Large fonts? And what font did you use in your original Rev.3 fw? I like it much.
Thanks a lot.
subz3ro
Dec 4 2005, 13:39
(for all who asked me about font change ability)Home Menu -> Initial Settings -> Subtitles -> Font
You can choose from Small/Medium/Large/Very Large font then...
These are mapped into font banks of data part of the firmware like following:
Font 8 [0B-0C] .... Small
Font 9 [0D-0E] .... Medium
Font 10 [0F-10] ... Large
Font 11 [11-12] ... Very Large
This is mandatory condition for font change in order to work, as it is
programmed by
Gufiak - I have not change it.
When you are going to replace the font (let's say, with other codepage),
you have to do that within these banks
civcivxThe fonts used in rev.3 firmware were not all made by MtkFontCreator.
You are probably asking about Large/Very Large font - these are indeed very nice...
These fonts were done by
Mtz, he manually corrected many
of the characters, because the font is "width:4"... Try to ask him, which font/size was
used as a template... for me it seems like Helvetica Narrow - Bold

Hey sparkster!
No offence, man, but it seems that you haven't even started to read this forum

Most of your questions are trivial, and you will find answers in very first posts, though. I would give you answers (as Gufiak won't respond for sure), but then you wouldn't get any wiser than these three questions, anyway.
So, please, take your time and READ THE FORUM (better from the beginning).
You will find a lot of information, which will help you walk through the update process.
Have a nice read
Hi all.
Upgraded my 380 to 1.09 from pioneer.razorpoint.pl. Have one problem. Subtitles on some cd's won't work. Sub or srt. But on some, subs are working. The name of the subtitles file is the same as the movie file name is.
Any solution?

Can anyone advice what is the best firmware for Pioneer DV-585A supporting greek fonts? I would prefer to use an original firmware, but from what I understand this is not possible. Player came with 1.06 firmware and I upgraded to the latest 1.15. Both firmwares could not display greek subtites correctly. Any advice?
Hi, thanx for the new modded firmware by subz3or and gufiak (v1.09.02). its works great.
Got a question tho, in the next release, would it be possible to have manual region setting, ie manually changing the region setting to 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc? cos as far a i know, this is the only way to by pass the Regional Code Enhancment (RCE) on some of the new DVDs.
What are the differences between the v.1.09.02_CP1253 firmware by Gufiak & zavlakas and the B5CA1096_gufiak_subz3ro_rev.3_CP1253 firmware? Using second one some greek characters are not displayed correctly (truncated). Anyone else noticed this?
For subz3or / gufiak,
Hope you have read my last post(#366 i think), its about changing the regional settings manually. Another thing i wanna add to the list is that would it be possible to add a slow-play function, or slow-mo function, cos i watch a lot of kung fu films, so having a slow-mo function would be g8. maybe you could add it as a secondary function?
Thanks

I have noticed Γ (capital gamma) looks more like I. Also symbols like , . : ; cannot be distinguished between, even with the larger font sizes. Additionally, if one chooces the largest font sizes, sometimes there is not enough space in the screen the subtitles are cut to the left and right.

gufiak and others,
i just purchased a brand new pioneer dv -383 or 383-s i guess. some of the avi files arent workin on my dvd player, nor does some divx play..just the audio plays at times..and i wanna know is it always that when u have a data disc and u put it in the dvd player, u get an option of selectin either divx or mp3 or jpeg if there is? and if i select divx, then the mp3 and pics doesnt seem 2 b displayed..the same way, when i select mp3 and jpeg, then the divx or any other video format doesnt show and hence i cant play it..and this option of selectin either divx or mp3 comes only when i put the dvd in the player, ie, everytime i have 2 change my option of playin from mp3 to divx, i have to take out the dvd out and then put it back in the player for to get that option..there's no option in the remote or in the player to get that "divx or mp3 "selection option ,while the dvd is inside the player.
u think upgradin the firmware would resolve the issue? plz help me out!

This is a "typical problem", of the way the font is designed. The only solution is to choose another font to include in the fw. I am currently experimenting with various fonts (although I don't have much time for this... :-( )

So maybe I'm wrong and someone who has modified the firmware, has also removed French and put in this place some another language. Maybe Gufiak, and Polish language

. You must take MTKLanguage tool from mtz.softpedia.com, extract French from original and store it to modified FW, you use. Sorry, but I have no time now for doing it because tomorrow morning I'm going ... to France

Hello,
Attached find fw based on the latest (1.9.02 gufiak, sub3ero) using the Trebuchet MS CP1253 font.
At the attached pic you can see the font type.
With small font size you get approx. 46 characters on the screen
With medium font size you get approx. 41 characters on the screen
With large font size you get approx. 40 characters on the screen
With very large font size you get approx. 37 characters on the screen
Enjoy...

Hey ppl,
attached you can find rev.4 (multilanguage) of gufiak's 1.09.02 firmware.
The only change comparing to my previous release (rev.3) is in fonts,
while there are 4 codepages now to select from:
CP1250, CP1251, CP1253 and CP1254.
All these fonts are same height (Arial, 37 pixels), and were "shrinked" (or should it be better called "condensed"?) by a specialized tool I recently made for this purpose - hopefully, you will like them. Please do not hesitate to participate with a feedback

Ok, this is known issue, since we still don't have "subtitle wrap" feature in this firmware. You'd better have to wrap the subtitles on your own in order to be displayed at full length - I'm using 40 characters per line.

LePouSAT If you can supply a valid 380/585 firmware's FRENCH, it is no problem to add it to the firmware by replacing some minority language there... otherwise, I'm affraid you will be restricted to live with ENGLISH or other language currently there, because my French is weak, nor I have not enough time to make a translation of OSD menu.
JoMacHo Can I know where did you get that information from? AFAIK, the 1.15 firmware only resloves the signal issue...
