As a new user of this modified software, I'd like to thank Gufiak for all the hard work!

Last week i purchased a Pioneer DV-380 and I just installed the Gufiak firmware. Ir runs well, and I noticed already some changes (bigger filename in the navigator is very handy for example)

But I have one question for the other users, can somebody explain what are the benefits of the following:

"DV-585 player features enabled"

--> what are these features exactly?

I understand that the DV-585 offers SACD and DVD-audio playback but these aren't supported on the DV-380. So what is meant here?

Try renaming your subtitles files in this manner:
CharlieandtheChocolateFactory.ser.srt
Rambo.ser.srt

It should work better.

as far as i know, it will *NOT* work since there're some incompatibilities between 575 and 585. if you flash a 575 on 585, your player will die.. BEWARE.. another guy tried to flash a 575 fw some time ago and the result was unpleasant..
Bikstok
Thx for a great firmware, to all involved.
It really gave my player a much needed boost, what i like most are the volume butons, and long filenames, super.

Some people had problems playin ogg audio files, on my 585 i got them playing, yall proberbly know this by now, but just to be sure no one is left out.

When you pop in the disc you'll be able to select divx or mp3/mpg, if you select mp3, you won't be able to see the ogg files, but select divx, and you will see the ogg files and be able to play them.

Since no one seemed to have tested the firmware I posted a while
back I tried it myself, it worked fine. tongue.gif

Generic comment: I get annoyed by reading the same posts that are extremely
dumb or meaningless, they have nothing useful to contribute in
regards to new info, hacks or fixes, and generally speaking are very annoying mad.gif because they are very EASY to fix.

HERE'S SOME USEFULL ADVICE:

-READ THE MANUAL THAT CAME WITH YOUR DVD PLAYER ---FIRST---

If something doesn't work or it's buggy , IT DOESN'T WORK AND IT'S BUGGY.

Requests for this and that are too much to ask for if the original firmware
has the same issues. (That's why it's good to read the manual first).
If it has been fixed by a hack or an update DO A WEB SEARCH (Don't be lazy:nonobad: ).

Reading is good, so - read the manual first -.

- - - MANY THANKS TO GUFIAK AND SUBZERO FOR THEIR NEW FIRMWARE CONTRIBUTIONS, THEIR UPDATES AND SPECIALLY THEIR TIME.

Thanks and Merry Gift Shopping Day! coolspeak.gif

maybe they are easy to fix (FOR YOU) and somebody already wrote about it, but a forum isn't the best way to organize informations.. i can understand that someone goes mad searching 12 pages of posts for a hint.
by the way, nobody is born technician, so i think you should have more respect for ppl that are not so experienced as you, because experience is not only the final result of intelligence, or will, but also time. if you are irritated by answering to unexperienced ones, don't do it; but i think it is quite grotesque spending time barking to them.
i'm sure that you (and not only you) also wrote dumb posts when you were less experienced than now.. so? are you interested only in ppl that tried your firmware to boast yourself, now?

To peticchio:

I wasn't asking nono.gif for anyone to organize informations, only making a comment
about READING THE MANUAL THAT CAME WITH THEIR DVD PLAYER,
DOING A WEB SEARCH TO FIND WHAT'S -ALREADY- OUTHERE.
JUST LIKE I DID TO SOLVE & FIND STUFF THAT WAS USEFULL
rather than being annoying asking questions over and over
again that are EASILY FOUND.

I wasn't born a technitian either, nor a psychic like you seem to be,
boasting stuff about me as if you knew me personally.

I think it is quite grotesque spending time barking to someone that
it's not even known in real life by a foreingner.

I'M AN UNEXPERIENCED NEWBIE MYSELF.
I have only posted about 5 posts in this forum,
I have searched and searched all over the web and I have
read the manual that came with my DVD player to find stuff that's
usefull that at first tought was hard to find (Like region free
codes, firmwares, fonts, tools, etc etc).

I have only answered ONE post (Which you conveniently edited to
make it seem as if I were angry at the person to whom I originally
replied to -MarkoH01-. The rest was my generic comment NOT
aimed at or to anyone).
, I apologize for not answering earlier because I don't check all
the time this forum, I was not annoyed about answering it because
I wanted to share what I found out, I also wanted others to SHARE
stuff they know with me. (Not just make dumb
comments or repeated lazy posts)

In a few words, I was only giving my personal "experience"
on HOW TO FIND STUFF -without- posting too much useless
comments or stuff like this post I'm making right now about issues
that are not even meaningfull to me or anyone else regarding
the main topic of this forum..

Anyways, if anyone gets angry by me giving my personal
experiences/tips/etc, it's their OWN problem. -I don't care-.
The fish dies by it's own mouth. Just expect to be paid with
the same coin you paid with. Can't make a dumber than
dumb person like me posts any more dumb posts.
End of story. sleep.gif

A tip from a newbie: IT'S NOT THE DVD PLAYER THAT ENCODES
THE DIVX FILES OR MAKES THE CRAPPY SUBTITLES.
SHAME ON THE ENCODERS WHO MAKE
THE DIVX FILES THEMSELVES AND NOT THE DVD PLAYER
OR GENERALLY SPEAKING, THE FIRMWARE ITSELF.
Read a good Divx encoding guide and subtitle like I did.

Hello all,

Happy New year

I just find this page on google, as I just pulled the trigger on the 588 pio (no upconverting players for me smile.gif )

Any ways, aside from the region free, which will be nice, and i'm sorry if this was already posted, I didn't see it, is the ability to skip over the FBI warnings, coming soon and other things the dvd does not 'allow' you to do.

I know there is afirmware for an older pio that does this. I am wondering if/when this can be incorporated into this firmware, or is tehre another one which does this?

Thank you for the great work!
Pamelala
About the FBI warnings, read the first post on page 1

Changelog:
01.09.02.00 20-10-2005

- new feature in "Initial settings" -> "Options": "DVD Fast Start" - turned on causes that DVD-Video movies will be played without showing the FBI screens, ads, menus, etc. Player will jump directly to the main movie. But this feature can cause problems on some DVD-Video discs, in this case you should turn it off.

Merry Christmass and A Happy New Year to everybody!

I have recently bought Pioneer DV-585A-S and I am interested in using it with DivX 6 encoded movies. I intend to use ALL DivX 6 potential including menus, chapters etc.

I would like to ask anybody especially gufiak if it is possible to implement all missing DivX 6 features in some future firmware update.
janin
First of all, thanks to Gufiak for the time and effort making this update. I just updated the firmware on my DV-858A and it works great so far and was easy to do.

I have a question about watching RCE region 1 dvds on my ex-region 2, now multi-region, thanks this firmware update.
Does anyone have experience trying to watch the new RCE DVDs on a multiregion dvd player?

Is it possible to change my dvd region code, from multi-region, specifically to region 1 so that I can watch RCE region 1 DVDs? From reading the thread it appears that it is not possible with this version.

I'm guessing I could reinstall the original firmware if it were region 1, and then switch back to multiregion later. But I have no idea what the original region code settings are in the files available to download. Has anyone got new RCE region 1 DVDs to work with this firmware?

Thanks.

Is there any problem applying gufiaks 1.09.02 rev3 on a player with Gufiaks 1.09.02 rev4 on it. I don't need different CP tables (in rev4) since i don't mean to change my mother language at all (croatian). I would rather like to change size of fonts (rev3).

hi everyone,

first post here from someone who has very little idea of what he is doing (have never upgraded firmware before). i have two questions :

1) could someone point me towards the most reliable and most up-to-date firmware for my 383? also, any web guides as to installing firmware would be greatly appreciated.

2) i have been watching divx avi files on my 383, and the playback is quite jumpy - peoples' movements seem jumpy, etc. the files are ones that i have downloaded and hence i have been able to test on my pc - on which they play back fine. is this a problem that other people have encountered and, if so, how has it been addressed?

thanks for your time. i realize these two questions may have been answered previously but there are so many posts here!

cheers,
james.

Hi jamesg

Welcome to the forum. People here are friendly, but do ask you to read the forum for a bit before asking questions.

The answer to your first question is on this very thread (you shouldn't have to hunt too far). As for your second question, this is likely a problem with packed bitstreams in the file you're playing. You can use a tool called MPEGModifier to unpack the bitstream in the file before you burn it. Search around the forum to find out more.

Good luck. These modded firmwares are great and have vastly improved my player.

I made a CP1252 version with 4 fonts, all CP1252.

Font 1: Arial Narrow Bold 18 Border 1
Font 2: Arial Narrow Bold 20 Border 1
Font 3: Arial Narrow Bold 22 Border 1
Font 4: Arial Narrow Bold 24 Border 1

You can choose this fonts in the new menu item added by Gufiak.

I updated FW, it works ok, but ...

It does not recognize these subtitles at all:

MExpress.avi
MExpress.sub
MExpress-en, delayed.sub

It does not recognize anything, worked pretty fine with original firmware.

Can you take a look on it please ?

Hi,

First thank you for those new FW, that't great. coolspeak.gif

I am from Belgium and I speak French. The firmware works great but I have just a little problem with some .srt subtitles.

In fact these letters : "ç", "à", "é", "è", "ù" don't work when I read a DivX on my DV-380.

For exemple, an "à" appears like this : "à" and an "é" like this : "è".

Could you help me please ? huh.gif

Thank you. smile.gif

Hi all,
I have had the B5CA1096_gufiak_subz3ro_fixed firmware for a while and now i am using the 1.09.02_gufiak_subz3ro_rev.3... But with the rev3 the subtitles will not load automatically (the solution is fast forward). But with the subz3ro fixed firmware the subtitles are there without the fast forward solution....

Anybody else noticed this? (I have changed the fonts to cp1252 so maybe that's the cause and I am the only one...)

No it is not required. At least on DV-2850 with original firmware subtitles does not have to have same name.

But with Gufiak's firmware it does not recognize mutliple subtitles in one folder :-(

Movie.avi
Movie1.sub
Movie2.sub

And

Movie.avi
Diff.sub

It does not show anything, but with original firmware on DV-2850 dated since July 2005 it works very well.

Hello Bimbo 2005,

Did you mean that with the original pioneer firmware, it let you choose subtitles with different filenames than the avi file within the same folder ?

Thanks for your answer.

Is there FW for DV-585A with these capabilities and wich version is it:

1. CP1250 (...,Croatian,...)
2. To change the size of the fonts (Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large)
3. To display multiple subtitles on a CD and with different filename than the movie
4. No jerkiness (bug in fonts)

hello

I just got a Pioneer DV-2850. I've got some problems with the Divx side.

Some movies are playing just fine. But some others don't :

- the video is somehow slow or just freeze
- the audio is most of the time (not always) not synchro with the video

But I'm able to play those movies perfectly on my Mac without any problems.

Thanks for help or any clue

regarding the subtitles

i dont know if subtitles with different file names can be loaded, i cant see how.

but you can load multiple subtitles using filenames like this:

movie.avi
movie.srt
movie.eng.srt

Hmm, are you really sure that all XviDs w/ BVOP+NVOP (so called Packed Bitstream) work flawlessly? Framerate is the key parameter here, which you have to pay attention for. Standard PAL (25 fps) streams make no problem, but try with some NTSC stream (23.976 fps, 29.970 fps resp.) - you will most probably encounter playback suffering.
In fact, none of current Pioneer firmwares resolves the Packed Bitstream problem with XViD / NTSC streams.

Hello all!

I`ve used Gulifak`s firmware to mainly de-zone my player and it worked flawlessly.

I have now a problem with COLOR on my DV-380. Today the menu screen "flashed" from BW to color very fast, then it became just BW. I rebooted it, nothing helped. I thought it was the SCART its connected with to my tv via the VCR, but that was not the problem. After a while, all color came back! I thought it would be best to used Pioneer`s own FW again, but that didn`t help much.
All menus are now color, DVDs play in full color, but *.avi files and other movie files just won`t play in color nomatter what.

Can this problem be solved?

Also to the ones that develop this firmware - is it possible to have codecs for QuickTime and RealMedia files in the next firmware?

Thanks in advance.

Hey ppl,

attached you can find rev.4 (multilanguage) of gufiak's 1.09.02 firmware.
The only change comparing to my previous release (rev.3) is in fonts,
while there are 4 codepages now to select from:
CP1250, CP1251, CP1253 and CP1254.
All these fonts are same height (Arial, 37 pixels), and were "shrinked" (or should it be better called "condensed"?) by a specialized tool I recently made for this purpose -  hopefully, you will like them. Please do not hesitate to participate with a feedback smile.gif

Your *.avi files are probely in NTSC (or PAL depends on what your normal TV-system is) format.

You may need to change the setting within the DVD player to output a PAL signal.
The setting of this varies depending on the DVD player but it is identified in the operating manual under the headings of "colour TV system", "switching the TV system output" or "setting the TV system".

firstly and foremostly to the tremendous human being Gufiak , i salute , thank and applaud you .
Not only for the firmware alternative you have developed and shared with us all , but for being a what i sense is a genuinely nice, decent thoughtful and patient human being , the rarest kind .
after having read much of these forums , some bits several times , i cannot fathom the depth of patience you actually have and yet still wish to give to everyone . Thank you for sharing your genius with us all and allowing us to share in your personal project.

apart from a few people here and there , most people are purely about asking for more sure they start off with a thank you and then get straight into a request , now this in itself isnt poor form when done politely and with consideration that GUFIAK HAS A LIFE.
it ISmost exceptional poor form to prod and poke almost as though GUFIAK is an actual pioneer firmware developer who has been assigned to this forum to obey all and sundry ....perosnally GUFIAK , i care not a fig when or more importanly IF you get time to share more of your brilliance with us all , you ensure you live life , get time to actually enjoy watching stuff on your own machine and doing things which make you a happy human :)

good work to all those who actually help out on the forum and partially shield Gufiak from some of the inannity , kudos :)

now on to my lil experience and question for anyone who may be able to help (Except Gufiak , even if you know the answer and have had time to read this resist the urge and let others help ...however if you feel like sending me an email to tell me where i can donate to the "FUND FOR GUFIAK TO ENJOY HIMSELF " id be more than happy :)

bought the DV-686A $160 (cheaper than should be i can bargain hard) in brisbane australia , after much research and debate i love it and its well worth it most especially modified with GUFIAKs firmware (stoopidly enough a huge thing i love is the main screen , thats a wicked picture and i wouldnt change it for anything ) ....couldnt get MTZ version of GUFIAKS to be recognised by the 686 even though MTZs worked on 676A ....but anyways onward to the question as its bugging me a bit mostly cause im fairly dim ;)

i cannot get .ogg or .ogm or .ogm/.ogg renamed to .avi to not do the funkiest thing and make the player actually hang ...hang so that i have to depower and hope it hasnt actually fried .....only tried 4 times and no more .....does anyone have further knowledge re .OGM.OGG and the pioneer ....any complete successes with these types ? and when they were in they would identify as MPEG4 and begin to play even with subtitles , but without audio .....i seem to recall reading that .OGG/OGM audio would only work with analogue .....but cannot find it again .....and unsure if this relates the the making it hang issue ...ie is the lack of audio making it crap out or just cause it aint handling the video real well or should i just give up and convert all my girlffriends anime to properlike .avi's ?

well thats it from me and once again Gufiak , love your work :) ...would you like us to put in a good word with Pioneer so you can get even a part time gig with them doing this for real ? just an afterthough but you probably already have quite enough going on ....to you and all the nice peoples , much love life and laughter to you , to all the rest , get yourselves into the room of mirrors for a long hard look at yourselves ;)

Can't play SACD with v.01.09.02 (Gufiaks), it says "Can't Play Disc"

Some DVD-Audio disc wont play at all. Can't even get the menu up on them.

As I said in an earlier post, SACD and DVD-Audio function doesn't seem to be related with firmware. As long as there is not an 5.1 analog connection board, the player will not playback both of them (well most of the times).

Many people said that some DVD-Audio disks work but the real case is that they, in fact, playing the DVD-Video portion of the disc, which contains the audio in DD5.1 (through digital connection) not in MLP (through analog).
