When DVD Playback is set to DVD-Audio I only get sound throw my analog connection.
If DVD- Playback is set to DVD-Video then i get sound throw my digital connection. But not all DVD-Audio records will play on the 380 with the modified firmware. Some dosent even show the meny. Dosent matter what i set DVD Playback too.
With the original firmware I at least get the menu and can play the 5.1 tracks (DD).

If SACD is set to 5.1ch or 2ch it wont play the record, it wont even recognise it.
If you set it to play the CD part of the record it will recognise it and play it .

I used Gufaks fw on my pioneer 380 and it is working perfect!

Thank you very much!!!!!!

I have a 585 with gufiaks latest FW, everything is just fine except that you can´t rewind OGMs (not that important but still) and imbedded subs in OGM-files do not show. OGMs work excellent in other regards, good video quality, dual language tracks but.. no subs, can´t enable them, I know they´re there I´ve checked with VLC- player, how can I solve this? Thanks

can someone post a quick guide on how to make my own skins in pioneer 380 firmware? i have MTKReMaker and firmware but i do not know how to make *.mpg in exact format like one in firmware!

Many thanks and appreciation to Gufiak for his superb FW and Subz3ro for some modifications on it!

Till now i copied my divx/xvid movies on CD-R but now i'm planning to put more divx movies on a DVD-R. But before buying a dvd-burner i want to know if it's possible for the Pioneer DV-380s to read multiple divx movies (of course not simultaneously) on ONE DVD-R? Logically, i think this is possible but i want to be sure of this.

I'm looking forward for someone's experience with this question.

Greets.

Yes - go fir it. You can put many files on a DVD-R and choose which one to play via the GUI.

(And the modded firmware makes it easier to navigate these files, as you'll see more characters than you would have doen with the original firmware.)

firstly and foremostly to the tremendous human being Gufiak , i salute , thank and applaud you .
Not only for the firmware alternative you have developed and shared with us all , but for being a what i sense is a genuinely nice, decent thoughtful and patient human being , the rarest kind .
after having read much of these forums , some bits several times , i cannot fathom the depth of patience you actually have and yet still wish to give to everyone . Thank you for sharing your genius with us all and allowing us to share in your personal project.

apart from a few people here and there , most people are purely about asking for more sure they start off with a thank you and then get straight into a request , now this in itself isnt poor form when done politely and with consideration that GUFIAK HAS A LIFE.
it ISmost exceptional poor form to prod and poke almost as though GUFIAK is an actual pioneer firmware developer who has been assigned to this forum to obey all and sundry ....perosnally GUFIAK , i care not a fig when or more importanly IF you get time to share more of your brilliance with us all , you ensure you live life , get time to actually enjoy watching stuff on your own machine and doing things which make you a happy human smile.gif

good work to all those who actually help out on the forum and partially shield Gufiak from some of the inannity , kudos smile.gif

now on to my lil experience and question for anyone who may be able to help (Except Gufiak , even if you know the answer and have had time to read this resist the urge and let others help ...however if you feel like sending me an email to tell me where i can donate to the "FUND FOR GUFIAK TO ENJOY HIMSELF " id be more than happy smile.gif

bought the DV-686A $160 (cheaper than should be i can bargain hard) in brisbane australia , after much research and debate i love it and its well worth it most especially modified with GUFIAKs firmware  (stoopidly enough a huge thing i love is the main screen , thats a wicked picture and i wouldnt change it for anything ) ....couldnt get MTZ version of GUFIAKS to be recognised by the 686 even though MTZs worked on 676A ....but anyways onward to the question as its bugging me a bit mostly cause im fairly dim wink.gif

i cannot get .ogg or .ogm or .ogm/.ogg renamed to .avi to not do the funkiest thing and make the player actually hang ...hang so that i have to depower and hope it hasnt actually fried .....only tried 4 times and no more .....does anyone have further knowledge re .OGM.OGG and the pioneer ....any complete successes with these types ? and when they were in they would identify as MPEG4 and begin to play even with subtitles , but without audio .....i seem to recall reading that .OGG/OGM audio would only work with analogue .....but cannot find it again .....and unsure if this relates the the making it hang issue ...ie is the lack of audio making it crap out or just cause it aint handling the video real well or should i just give up and convert all my girlffriends anime to properlike .avi's ?

well thats it from me and once again Gufiak , love your work smile.gif ...would you like us to put in a good word with Pioneer so you can get even a part time gig with them doing this for real ? just an afterthough but you probably already have quite enough going on ....to you and all the nice peoples , much love life and laughter to you , to all the rest , get yourselves into the room of mirrors for a long hard look at yourselves wink.gif

To those of you who have had problems playing ogm files, I would like to offer a suggestion. It is to my
limited experience of ogm playback on DV-383 but I believe that fw-1.07 should give you flawless playback of ogm files. You can find the fw somewhere in this thread. This fw is currently not modded as the 1.09 is, to my knowlegde.

However, I am using Gufiak's latest fw which is based on 1.09 to play my xvids and divxs but not my ogms. For ogms I have to use the PC. Have to have the nice features the the modded 1.09 fw is offering.
But if you still want to watch ogms using your pioneer player, then use fw 1.07

I have problem with subtitles.

AVI filename: CharlieandtheChocolateFactory.avi
SRT filename: CharlieandtheChocolateFactory.ser.srt

The problem here is that when the movie plays from 0 the subs are displaying, but if I press any option for example RW the subs are not displaying anymore.

AVI filename: Rambo.avi
SRT filename: Rambo.ser.srt

The subs are not detected.

Can anyone tell me where can I modify the shut down message in MTKReMaker?

This indeed is weird. You should be always able to play the DVD-Video portion of the DVD-Audio discs at all times. Some of the mods is causing the 380 to behave weird I think. Like 16:9 aspect menus that they are displaying incorrectly on a standard 4:3 tv.

Hi all,

on my Pioneer 585 with manipulated firmware »1.09.02_gufiak_subz3ro_rev.3.zip« (before i had Gufiak's 1.09.1) I have a weird problem while browsing in Dvd menus. The markers which indicate the selected item are on wrong places. This makes it very difficult to select the right item (ex. Play movie, Select language...). Is there someone else having this problem?

Patrick

p.s. a special thanks to all developers! you are doing great work!!

Okay, if you use THAT why you were writing about "PAPA" message? laugh.gif
Anyways, here's a tutorial how to change the message:
1) open .bin file in some HEX editor
2) find the position of the message- it's (redundant) in two places;
(I can give you addresses for 1.09 firmware) [hex]
42934 and 42B31
3) replace the text with your own on both positions - you have 6 characters
guaranteed space here (maybe up to 10 works - never tried that myself);
you can choose from two enclosure chars (maybe more, I know these two) [hex]
AA - blinking "#"
AD - blinking "-"
4) save the modified .bin file and open it in MtkRemaker;
accept the message about CRC mismatch and let it to make new one
5) save the firmware as usual in MtkRemaker and do the upgrade to the player

If you follow these steps carefully, everything should work, but... please remember:
I DO NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGE YOU MAY CAUSE TO YOUR PLAYER wink.gif

Yes I had the same problem with Gufiak's firmware (01.09.01.00 03-10-2005 if I remember correctly). Before I had only the original Pioneer firmware and no problems. I don't remember which version it was, I think 1.04?!

Then I'm affraid there is a bug in gufiak's modified 1.09 firmware. Either use his previous modification (find it at www.pioneer.razorpoint.pl) or you have to stick with original firmware until he will fix it - and that may take long this time sad.gif

It is very strange that no one else had this problem, maybe it depends from where the player is (we have cm not inch here biggrin.gif)?

At home I can make pictures from the menus, it is with all Dvd's, but of course looks different.

No it's not only you, all people who use the dvd-player with letterbox setting on a 4:3 stardard TV, have this problem with discs which have 16:9 aspect menus. One disc to test it is Matrix Reloaded (though all latest dvds have such menus so this is a major problem).

Both mod versions of Gufiak exhibit this problem. The only way is to watch your dvd in pan-scan setting.

Yes, I can confirm I'm experiencing that very problem on my PAL 4:3 TV.
I thought something was wrong with the DVD (Jurassic Park III) which I rented
because I couldn't select the Czech language. It was only when I returned it back
after watching the videoshop lady told me it HAS NO CZECH LANGUAGE, ONLY CZECH

I wanna know if it is possible making mp3 playback gapless. Can it be done with just firmware, or is it hardware

No it's hardware. Even Pioneer mp3 car players pause between tracks. It's normal as they need to read a little mp3 info before playing them.

Hi there.

I can't find any information about my Pioneer 380 playing MODE2/XA cds.

I have some (not many) videos burned this way through mode2cdmaker and when I load them into the Pio (with gufiak rev02 fw) I get "DATADISC" on the DVD display and that's all.

Any help or news on the subject would be appreciated.

I specify I know how to "set back" DAT files on Mode2 cds to readable avis, so that's not an issue. I just want to know about the Pio and Mode2 cd...

Thanks!

lo_stalker

added 14/01: keeping the .avi (instead od .dat) extension for media files on cd images made with mode2cdmaker make them readable and playable by the Pio (LCD reads "MPEG4"). Experimented last night. More info will be appreciated anyway.

Hey guys I just got my Pioneer DV-588A-S in the mail today. I tried to play a DVD of some anime that I have (there in divx) however it seems like the top and the bottom are cutoff. Like the video is to big for the screen. Its not very noticable until you start to read the subtitle and there being cut in-half. I was wondering has anyone had this issuse before and is there a fix for this issuse without having to re-encode the video to a smaller file size. My firmware is 1.09

Thanks for the software, but I have still a problem on my PIO DV 2850.
I am located in region 2 (Europe-Germany).

After reset (as described) of the DVD player, I started a DVD from USA (Region1), I hear the sound, but the picture is still "running thru". This I had always on my old DVD player. I am interested to get rid off of the region codes. Who can help me? Do I need some other additional software or what else I have to do in the settings???

Thanks from good old Germany

I was wondering can someone help me out here, cause I have a BIG problem on my Pioneer DV380-S,and that is that the movies are still jerky even after upgrading to this firmware --> FW - 1.09.02_gufiak_subz3ro_rev.3.zip but I think I have a whole different issue because my movies start to lag on the very beggining when there are no subtitles at all and it is CONSTANT.I'm very confused and desperate cause I bought this player and now the movies seem like they are running in 15 FPS.I have a Samsung Wide screen 82 cm 100 Hz and its connected via RGB.Maybe its something in my settings that is wrong? Would be nice if someone could explain that "progressive output" a little...currently its on interlace.I also heard that this could be happening if my movies are encoded with QPEL or GMC...but only one movie is encoded that way...others are just "packed bitstream" and are also jerky. Please If someone can help,I dunno what to do,only thing that I can still think of is downgrading to 1.07 or 1.08 FW confusedsmiley.png

Hello everybody, I have installed the new Firmware from Gufiak (wonderfull firmware) and I have a problem playing an XVID file on my DV 380. The problem is that I only hear sound but I don't see any picture. Here are some details that may be useful:

Used Program:
MPEG4Modifier details:
AVI Source: rome part1.avi
User data: Divx999b000p
XviD0037
Video information:
Packed bitstream: Yes
QPel: No
GMC: No
Interlaced: No
Aspect ratio: Square pixels
Quant type: H.263

I-VOPs: 968 (1,29%)
P-VOPs: 30073 (40,11%)
B-VOPs: 43944 (58,60%)
S-VOPs: 0 (0,00%)
N-VOPs: 0 (0,00%)

Max consecutive B-VOPs: 2
1 consec: 38,58%
2 consec: 61,42%

Question: Does anyone know how to convert this Xvid File so I can play it on de DV 380, I am a newbie so I am sorry if this kind of questions don't belong in this Forum.
I think it's the new codec but i'm not sure.

Thanks alot and greetings from Holland!

First download MPEG4 Modifier
Open your "jerky" movie within it, and if there is option "Packed Bitstream Unpack" available, unpack the stream and save as new file. In fact, this is only necessary for XviD files with NTSC stream - you can distinguish such streams, let's say, with GSpot
upon framerate parameter, which is either 23.976 or 29.976, and there is B-VOP and N-VOP highlighted. It is also possible to check the framerate in Explorer - click with right mouse button on the file, choose Properties -> Summary and under "Video" check if the "Frame rate" is either 23 or 30.

P.S. The downgrade is not a good idea, as it won't resolve your packed bitstream problem. Anyways, if above mentioned tutorial is not of help for you, maybe it is whole different issue and then you should go with other firmware wink.gif

Resolution 960x540 pixels,

No its not a different issue, the problem was really in the "packed bitstream" movie wink.gif
Thank u for your reply and can u please tell me if I understood correctly, that if the movie is 23.976 FPS or 29.976 FPS its an XVID NTSC movie? The movie I tryed fixing today was an Xvid 23.976 FPS and had B-VOP and N-VOP so I unpacked the "packed bitstream" and it worked much better. My final question for u is if u can explain "progressive output" to me a little, what is the difference compared to interlace and what tv-s support it? 23.976 FPS or 29.976 FPS means NTSC movie in general, XviD as well as DivX or any other wink.gif
Progressive output is an option in your Pioneer player, which can send signal to the TV device, while there is NO interlaced picture - as used in TV broadcasting, but the computer monitor likewise - i.e. full picture lines (left-to-right), every line - not only odd lines. This results in more stable and sharp picture (without flicker). It is supported by new plasma and LCD TV's (don't know whether some CRT supports this, though).

Hello everyone, I need help from someone.
Recently I've tried a firmware, modified by Subzero ( or perhaps riotshield, I don't remember). It has a very 'blueish' background, and it has also the best subtitles I've seen so far (size and readability). However it hasn't the codepage for my language (portuguese), and the "ê", "à", etc get all scrambled.
I've tried to export from this firmware with MTKremaker the 4 fonts used for subtitles (8,9,10,11), and then load them in MTK font creator *the interface gets a little weird once I do this* huh.gif , anyway I alter the codepage and save the file, but when I load the new font into remaker (right mouse button/ replace) the font still has the same CP! confusedsmiley.png Perhaps this happens because of my version of font creator not being the latest, but I can't find version 0.6.2 anywere!

So I ask you: can anyone give me the link to MTKfontcreator 0.6.2, or tell me the font used in that firmware for me to create it in font creator?
Or did anyone already made a version with CP 1254 or 1252 of that firmware, and if so can you give me the link of that?
Tanks in advance

Hi guys! I donwloaded the 1.09 fw version and first of all I can't uncompressed the file, I use WinRar (3.51) Everytime I get the same message "the file is corrupted"!!!! is there any problem with files? Can anybody else post the original 1.09 FW bin files from Gufiak? Or is there any mirror site where I can donwload them? Nobody else seems to have the problem to uncompressed the files, at least nobody mentions this on the forums!

Thanks for your help!

I've tried to export from this firmware with MTKremaker the 4 fonts used for subtitles (8,9,10,11), and then load them in MTK font creator *the interface gets a little weird once I do this* huh.gif , anyway I alter the codepage and save the file,

It doesn't work like that. You can't simply extract a font from a firmware, just load it onto MTKFOntCreator and expect it to allow you to create it on another codepage. It will not work.

To do what you want, you need to know which Windows font was used and create the MTF file yourself, from scratch. However, sometimes, the fonts you see, on MTKRemaker, have been custom changed so there's no easy way to do that.

If there are only a few characters wrong, you can redo them by hand, using the second MTKFontCreator tab, not the initial one. Load the MTF font you extracted with MTKRemaker, save it as TEXT (fontool format) and edit it with any text editor, e.g. Notepad. When you are happy or want to test, just load it again onto MTKFontCreator (as fontool) and check it. When all is done, save it as MTF and you can load it onto MTKRemaker.

Alternatively, I also think you can use MTKRemaker to save the font as text and edit. But this format, I think, is not recognized by MTKFontCreator. So, after you change it you can try to load it but directly to MTKRemaker.

I don't always follow this thread so, if you want to ask me something, send me a PM.
