Maybe the gamma setting was wrong. You can try experimenting with the gamma setting under the 'video settings' menu item of the player. This is usually the cause of an over bright or too dark screen.

Also, I've seen a lot of difference in quality of the RGB input on televisions. So the quality varies very much in the cheaper tv segment.

Thank you,
I 'll try that this evening, though I think I tried it before also, but I 'm not sure how to set it correctlly. That's Y I was asking for more info on those settings also. Maybe there is a DVD with special patterns that you can use to ajust those settings??? Anyone knows??
Thank you all

Misko, i think, there was one scart cabel between the VCR and the TV. And another scart cabel between the dvd player an the VCR. Usually just one of the scart connectors on a device has the R,G,B signals connected-the VCR too, usually. In that case, is not probable that the R,G,B signals could go to the TV. It could be the composit signal.

Hi guys

I just want a bigger font size when playing divx files!

Im not sure to patch mine with Gufiak firmware. (does it have bugs?)
whats the best solution for my dv-383 player?

I like the original background and screensaver i dont want mess with it!

Thanks
spw
In that case, I recommend changing the font by yourself because that's the only thing you want to be modified. I think it is not that difficult.

Most of the modified firmware contain different backgrounds (they are beautiful though). You can use the modified firmware and change the original background back using the the tool discussed above.

You can download the tools needed to change the font by yourself from this board, information can be found back in this thread.

also when i burn a movie with aspect 4:3 xvid with subtitles it doesnt display on screen

Hi all...

First of all I'd like to say many thanks to gufiak and all the other members of this board who contributed to this topic. Awesome work m8ies coolspeak.gif

I'm thinking of buying the Onkyo DV-SP503E. As mentioned in this topic, it's 'inspired' on the Pioneer 575 and/or 585 and uses the same firmware. I'm not really sure but if I understand correctly I can use Gufiak's modded firmware for the 503E? Would that work?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Laters guys,

No, the, manual says that both of the connectors can output RGB signals.

Hi there, I changed a font from a firmware previously posted here, so that it suports western characters. They are not 'pure' 1252 or 1254 codepages, but they have all the á, ê, ç, and so on.
Anyone who want to triy it can get with the link in this message. I think the font is very 'readable' and easy on the eyes smile.gif Their sizes are the "large" and "very large" (in the MTK remaker program, they are the Font 10 [0F-10], and Font 11 [11-12], respectively)
You can put them in those sections.
Hope anyone like it laugh.gif

A big hello to everyone (but especially Gufiak) from a Newbie (and non-techy). I know, I know...right now you're all shaking your heads.

I currently have an old Samsung 790 - easily hacked with a universal remote to be region free - which is showing signs of getting too old (problems playing some new discs, does not like scratches) and so I'm thinking of replacing it.

Mainly based on affordability, I've decided to go for the Pioneer 380 but I would like to get it region free. I don't want to get it "chipped" and I'm getting confusing info on various sites about whether it can be remote hacked straight out of the box or whether it needs to be modified first. Now I find this amazing site with all kinds of firmware updates and so have some questions.

- Does the firmware for the Pioneer 380 make the machine region free without the need for a remote hack?

- What else does the firmware update do?

- Are there any problems with the latest version (I keep reading something about a RGB bug)?

- What is the latest version?

I really only want the machine to be region free but if the firmware does other things then that's not a problem.

I've also heard of a problem with Pionner/Sony incompatibility - on some models a faint line appears on the screen. My tv is nothing too fancy, just a normal CRT Sony KV29 LS 35B (EU model capable of NTSC playback). Does anyone know if the problem will occur?

Finally rolleyes.gif Like I said above, I'm a total non-techy so...how do I go about burning a CD with the firmware? Yeh, I know, "hopeless" but I've only ever "burned" CDs by saving document files on my pc - never anything more complicated software wise and as for music I'm a vinyl junkie (1500+ LPs) and so only own a few CDs.

Any help greatly appreciated. peacefingers.gif

Hi,

Could anybody lead me to make the following mod in the firmware.
I'd like to associate 3-letters subtitles language extension (like XXX in file.XXX.srt) with a language name displayed when you are selecting a subtitle file (using 'subtitles' button).

Thanks

Hi all!

I've a problem with my DV-380 player:
When a DVD disc played the player begins the DVD title. Ok, but the Auto Power Off function not working sad.gif It plays the title all the time, and no screensaver, and no auto power off sad.gif

When no disc in player this function works fine.

When play a divx/xvid avi the current avi repeats, and no power off too sad.gif

All repeat function is turned off...

What is the problem? PLS help me!

The firmware is the latest by Gufiak! But with the original firmware this auto power off function was wrong too...

Thanks
astra_lestat
Is there any new official firmware for 785?

Really lousy player. There is not even one DIVX/XVID dvdrip that would play smoothly 100%. Every single one has a problem each 15-30 minutes, depends on the rip. Audio continues as it should but video would slow down for a while, and then catch up with the audio in 10 seconds.
Yamada 6100 played almost everything sad.gif

Hi everybody!

Today, I got a brand new DV-380 and it's ROM-Version 1.20 (Region Code 2)!
Does it still make sense to "upgrade" to grufiak's 1.09.02? Will I lose some features?

Thank you all!

Hello,

little offtopic but i have a problem with my pioneer dv-380, while playing either official or d/l dvd's. Sometimes a white line is showed with subtitles(dutch),making it harder to read. It's very disturbing. I have firmware 1.04.

I have searched the internet for more people with the same problem but it seems i am the only one....

When these white lines are displayed and i rewind and play the same the lines are gone. They come at random. sometimes i can watch one movie without these lines and sometimes it's every 10 minutes.

The disc's are clean, even today i watch a brand new bought dvd and it had these lines true the subtitles. grrr

Has anyone else seen this, have this too or know a solution. I'm thinking of upgrading to a new firmware.

QUOTE(subz3ro @ Dec 4 2005, 13:39)

(for all who asked me about font change ability)
Home Menu -> Initial Settings -> Subtitles -> Font
You can choose from Small/Medium/Large/Very Large font then...
These are mapped into font banks of data part of the firmware like following:
Font 8 [0B-0C] .... Small
Font 9 [0D-0E] .... Medium
Font 10 [0F-10] ... Large
Font 11 [11-12] ... Very Large
This is mandatory condition for font change in order to work, as it is
programmed by Gufiak - I have not change it.
When you are going to replace the font (let's say, with other codepage),
you have to do that within these banks cool.gif

Congratulations on your mod firmware. It works fine with my DV380 (subz3ro rev4 of 1.09.02 by Gufiak). I cannot, however, locate the option to change the font size in the menu you have mentioned. The "Font" option in the "subtitles" submenu allows only a choice of codepage. Have you tried it on a DV380 player or on something different?
Any thoughts? Thanks and keep up the good work!

In 'rev4' firmware, there are 4 codepages to select from. In 'rev3' firmware, there are 4 font sizes (CP1250) to select from. Hope you got the idea now smile.gif

What's version 1.20 doing ? read about it in this forum but things became silent.
Is anyone intersted in sharing/devoloping different backgroundfiles?

I just wrote pioneer regarding firmware upgrades and got this reply

QUOTE
we have to inform you that firmware upgrades can only be performed by Authorized Service Centers, and are created for quality issue purpose only. In case you want to upgrade Pioneer models, the unit has to be brought to ASC, who will perform the upgrade. However, we have to inform you that no firmware upgrades are provided to us by our headquarters in Japan till now, since we did not experienced any quality issues till now.

Could you please inform us the actual reason for this firmware update. In case this would be a quality issue, we will consider possible firmware upgrade.

Never write to Pioneer, they have outsourced the support in most countrys, thats why they want you to leave your DVD player becouse then they get paid.
Phone them up, tell them that you got firmware 1.09 and when you turn off the player the TV will remain black but you can hear the sound from the TV channel.
They will most likley send you an Upgrade Disc.

Yes I've noticed this problem too with 01.09.02.00, especially in progressive scan mode, but it appears sometimes when watching interlaced too.

Another thing that still remains is the 4:3 letterbox mode. It can't show DVD menu button highlights correctly.

Welcome to the clan. I wouldn't think about using a modded firmware until info is available about 1.20 (and the FW is available for you to reapply if you prefer the official FW).

Come on Pioneer - put it on your website with a list of improvements.

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I bought a brand new Pioneer dv-380 and I need it to be region free but I have "upgraded" (downgraded it?) with the Gufiak's 1.09.02 and it doesn't seem to work. I have now all the new features except for the region free thing.
Is there any other firmware I can download to make it work?
How do I know my original firmware version?

Hi there,
Original firmware shows when you go into the main menu, get to initial settings but don't go into the right side screen, touch "display" on the remote and the firmware version will show.
Don't know where to get the original, gufiak's is running with mine (also new)
