Thanks Hurbs!

Now it says: Rom Version 1.09.02.00

but still says: Region 2 (I'm from Spain) and I want it to play different code region dvds.

Is it yours region free already? Anything I can do?
Anyone?
Thanks!
Hurbs
I think there was something on the beginning of this thread about that.. Mine says region 2 also, but I haven't had problems with dvd's yet.

Has somebody dowloaded the new Pioneer 380/585 firmware v 1.20? If yes, is it possible to download it too, and where from?

What happens when the player is set to codefree "ENTER-secondary function" and then turned off (not only standby)? Will the region setting returned to original after turning on or still be 0.

No, it will be still region free. Even after changing firmware for any other, original too. The only one way to bring back the original region is holding the "Clear" key.

attachment to the FW file
Each key on the remote controller and on the front panel has it's primary function, which is activated right after pressing this key. But there are some keys which have secondary functions, activated after some delay when you are pressing these keys longer. So, when you will press & hold some key which has primary and secondary function, first will be activated primary function and after some delay (delay time is variable and depends on the key which you have pressed) will be activated secondary function.

Here is a list of keys with secondary functions:
* 1 - Volume+
* 4 - volume-
* 5 - switch the picture format (Letter box, Pan&Scan, 16:9)
* 7 - mute on/off
* 0 - VFD dimmer
* ENTER - set region 0 (region free) - you will be able to play any DVD-Video movie
* CLEAR - set default region - it will bring back the default region which was set before
making the player region free
* SURROUND - "SURROUD" is now the secondary function, primary function of this key is "Shuffle"
- used for mp3/wma playback
* > (right arrow) - faster music/movie playback, increases the pitch
* < (left arrow) - slower music/movie playback, decreases the pitch

Under some circumstances it will still saying it is a region 2 player, although it is actually region free.

Did you make the firmware region free using the key described in the readme file?

I've made my player region free with the modified firmware, but it also still says region 2. You can best try some disc from other regions to make sure. On my player they work regardless of the fact that the player says it's region 2. So it's actually region free (after updating to the modified firmware and enabling the region free mode).

If you look further back in this thread you'll see some more messages about it. In summery: what the player says is not always correct, just try it with a region 1 or 3 disc.

You can also change back to the original firmware if you want. Your player will stay region free regardless of the firmware changes!

Not exactly. In 01.09.02.00 version it should show region 0 if region 0 is set. I've corrected region displaying in my firmware. But in original firmware it will show region 2 again.

Hi everyone.

I have new 380 with 1.20 FW. My problem is with .IDX .SUB subtitles. In first 3 minutes subtitles dissapear. .srt subtitles are working, but not cp1250. i preffer use idxsub because i can use my own font, encoding, size, color .... .

I was checking subtitle timming, but everything is O.K. and in Subtitle workshop subs are running perfect. I also lower font size but it couldnot help.

Which fw version do you recomend for me ?

dbart, slovakia
borgontz
Oh, sorry, I forgot about that...
Now it works great!
Region free at last!

Thanks spw and thanks everyone!

i have new 380 with FW 1.20. Before i try modified FW i want to save my original FW. i just come from mobile shop with cable for siemens. It has 3 wires: GND, Rx,Tx. I dont have my pioneer open, so i dont know what situation is with my inner connector. But if somebody knows how to connect in 380, respond please. I can give you new 1.20 FW :-).

Maybe this can be helpful:

So ...

i know that now we are all wathing opening ceremony from Torino, but there is a problem :-(

IPB Image

Flash type is recognized ( i think properly ), but nothing is done, nothing is reading from flash, for long minutes.

here is detail on my connection

IPB Image

I'm using cable for siemens mobile. There are 3 wires: GND, TX and RX. Thank pionner for connector ready on board. I open connector for mobile, take out wires with contacts and short contacts for aproriate lenght for connector on pioneer board. So i put RX and TX in board and GND under screw close to the connector.

and here another image with details on chips (flash type).

IPB Image

whats wrong ???

thank for answers, dbart
gufiak
Try using newer version of mtktool: http://64.168.125.230/support/MTKTool/MTK%20Prog.zip

Don't forget to set 'MT1389', because it supports more chips.
mirek33

Remember, you should to connect RX from the mobile phone cabel to TX on tha board, and TX from the cabel to RX on the board. Maybe, you know about it.
M
gufiak
Remember also, that your player should be connected to the power supply during backup.
dbart
Still nothing :-(

With new version it mostly doesnt recognize flash type

i tried switch rx-tx, but its wrong, as i think before make it

small progress is on this image: sometimes 512 bytes with this

IPB Image

maybe to try with other cable :-(

mine is described as "SIE CX5"
gufiak
Yes, try with other cable. Those cables are not so good for flashing players and sometimes works, sometimes no. Try also to cut your cable after 50-90 cm. It can't be too long.
dbart
OK i try to cut cable to 30 cm. and what about win98 and winXP ? now i'm using XP.
gufiak
Should work on both without problems, but on XP try to close all programs because they can cause some delays in comunication which could cause these problems.

I was using "OLD WOODEN" Pentium Toshiba notebook with Win98. From "old wooden age" of programing PIC microcontrolers i remember, that older, slover machines are better, than modern gigaherz horses. Only to remember for it takes me one day rolleyes.gif

Backup takes 4:30. I make backup 7 times and in 5 cases it ends with "probably" checksum:7805

I'm finished.

Now i'm going something to cook for lunch and then i start with modified FW. Can you recomend me good link with last fw with codepage 1250 (i'm Slovak). Thank you

BTW, thanks for firmware, it looks good. I've detected no errors in it smile.gif

But noone should use it to upgrade his player. Use firmware attached to my post. It's cutted and modified to CD upgrade so it's safe. Full backup could kill the player or make that some functions could stop working.

Of course it's v1.20

(dbart please, remove a link from your post)

Thanks for your effort dbart.
Thanks for the cd usable file gufiak.
Now lets find out what this new FW has to offer.

For my understanding dbart, idx + subs running, with text-subs (srt, sub ...) in the folder too? When dissapear the first 3 minuten, try stop and play?

Yes, you can. And, please, edit your post and remove this big quote.

What do I change in the 1.20 to make it regionfree?

gufiak
No-Worries, nothing. If you made your player regionfree with my firmware it will be still regionfree.
dbdossan
Yep, but region 2 appears in the option information display menu. tongue.gif (in my case obviously)
The only improvment I have noticed so far with this new 1.20 FW is that the bug which occured with DVD with 16:9 menu (the one when the indicator appeared out of place r doubled), when player set in PAL mode is resolved.
No GMC support yet. sad.gif

As mentioned back in the thread:

*When you use the original firmware it says "region 2" but it *is* region free!

*With Gufiak's modified firmware it gives the correct status of the player.

This only applies if you made your player free in the past using Gufiak's firmware of course and upgraded to the (newest) original non-modified firmware.

Thought of mentioning this again to avoid confusion.

Yes i know biggrin.gif , I just wanted to learn were in the firmware to change the region settings.

For the life of me I cannot get my DV-380 to Play R1 disks!! sad.gif

Here's what I'm doing:
Downloaded and burned FW 1.07
DVD player detects upgrade (so that tell me I burnt the disk right as I'm on a mac)
Press play
Wait
CD ejects
I remove CD
After a few mins tray closes.
Player reboots

I then go and put the R1 disk in and no joy!:(
I even did the hold down stop and hit stand by thing to reset. No Joy! sad.gif

Am I just being really thick here?! What am I doing wrong?
If somebody can help me out I would be so grateful.
spw
Did you first make your player region free with Gufiak's firmware and pressing on the correct key (see readme file for instructions)?

Why are you using the such old firmware? (what you describe is more a downgrade instead of an upgrade!)

I recommend first downloaden Gufiak's firmware, making it region free by holding the key and than change to the original 1.20 firmware mentioned in this thread.

It's no problem burning the disc on a Mac. I use a Mac myself and all my firmware updates went succesfully without any hassle.
gufiak
QUOTE

It's normal in original firmwares.
QUOTE

It's a bug in my modified firmware. It's because I've unlocked P&S for DVDs and MPEG4 movies.
QUOTE

It's not so simple. But if you have a serial cable I can give you instructions how to change region any time for RCE discs with this cable.

Pig Boy, this 1.07 firmware is not regionfree. Use my firmware to make it region free and upgrade to the newest firmware or keep my firmware.
martyras
I pressume the 'subtitle timing' problem exists on original 1.20 firmware also, huh? (along with other gliches that also older originals had). So without Gufiak's hands on it, it is just for testing of new features.

EDIT: You can also use this method mentioned to make your player region-free.

I very much appreciate the responce man! 'Read me' files?!
Can you please tell me what to do step by step? This is totally alien to me I'm sorry!
I download "Pioneer_DV_380_original_fw.rar" double click and all I get is "B5CA1046.BIN" I thne burn that.
spw
You need to download the firmware that is posted at the end of the *first message* of this thread.

Extract the file, burn it and read the instructions in the readme file which accompanies the firmware.

Hello Gufiak,
First of all i would like to give you HUGE props for the work you have done with the pioneer dvd player firmwares as it has be you and your firmwares that have kept me so interested in both these players and this board. So alot of credit to you.
I am from australia and currently have a pioneer 676-a and it it working great with your 575 firmware. i am also just about to buy another pioneer player either the 383 or the 686 (which i think is the same as the 588) would you be able to tell me if there is any difference between these 2 players (the 383/380 and the 686/588) also, is there anything in the near future that would fix the "packed bitstream" issue on either of the 575 or the 588?
And lastly can you just clear 1 last thing up for me... does your firmware "Pio Dv-2850/380/383/585/588 Modified Firmware, v.01.09.02.00 by gufiak" work on both the 383 and the 686 the same, i.e. give the same functions to either player?
Thanks for your help and the time you put into these firmwares gufaik, it is very much appreciated.
Best Regards,
Brett.

Brett,

I'm from NZ and have a Pioneer-DV 686 (annoying how we get slightly different model names down-under, eh?), and can confirm these firmwares (1.15, 1.20 official and Gufiak's modded 1.09 firmware) all work with the 686.

The 686 differs from the 383 in that it includes DVD-Audio and SACD support. and has onboard DTS and Dolby AC3 decoding. In other words, if you don't need high resolution audio and/or already have an external amp with DTS/5.1, you'd be better served saving a few bucks and going with the 383.

And no, you can't get the functionality of the 686 merely by firmware flashing the 383 because the 383 lacks the neceassary hardware (decoder chips and output sockets).

This could be fixed only by pioneer.

Yes, but quality of these decoders and analog output is not so great. So it's better when you are using decoders in amp.
QUOTE
(decoder chips and output sockets)
Output sockets yes, but no decoder chips. DTS and DD decoders are fully unlocked in my firmware but these models has only stereo outputs. SACD and DVD-Audio can be played also on these models, but it's still locked and I'm still trying to unlock these features.

gufiak
zavlakas, thanks, I will check it smile.gif Maybe some link to this firmware?
gufiak
Well, I've checked and those arm codes works, but there is a problem with filebrowser. I can't play any disc on which filebrowser can be used (mp3, photo, divx, etc.). It doesn't play anything even if I'm trying to play the disc from the main screen. But it's promising that same other risc is working even partially. Probably it's possible to patch firmware to show the filebrowser but it could take a lot of time which I don't have now. But in some spare time I will try to do something with it smile.gif

Anyway thx for this info smile.gif

So is it worth upgrading from 1.09.02 to this new 1.20?

Are there any significant improvements that make it worth upgrading the FW?

thanks
