Yes, but quality of these decoders and analog output is not so great. So it's better when you are using decoders in amp.

Indeed!

QUOTE(gufiak @ Feb 13 2006, 04:27)
SACD and DVD-Audio can be played also on these models, but it's still locked and I'm still trying to unlock these features.

Wow! Good luck with this - and with the packed bitstream stuff - and thanks again for your expertise on these firmwares.

Just asking-- even if I really doubt to see this:

Can I get a DSD stream output off the MTK chipset instead of a DSD to PCM conversion(Done in the chipset) using free I/Os if there are any?

I'm just asking because it could be worth changing DACs if so. BTW, the Pioneer is a good player once the analog stage is modded. (It's a good transport)

Can I use CD-RW to burn the firmware ISO file for flashin the firmware instead of the normal CD-R ??

Of course.

I have a minor problem on my 380: When I insert a DVD, it often starts playing the bonus material instead of the movie. And when I hit "menu", it often starts another movie file, or ends up on the wrong menu. Checked the settings, and nothing seems to be set to "random". What am I doing wrong? Used to work just fine..

(Using gufiak's latest)

Downgrade? LOL
Only one improvement in 1.20 version, which was also in 1.15 version is fixed RGB bug (screen was black after turning player off when using RGB out). Load my firmware and you will see this 'downgrade'. You can restore original firmware in any time.

My question of my precedent post was just for know if this function were available with the original firmware. I think that it is no ?

Thanks

It is available partly. Volume is hidden and locked in each firmware. But I have added displaying and remembering volume level after turning off the player.

Hey people,
Ended up getting the 383 today, and was gonna put gufiak's firmware on but i noticed there was talk about the 1.20FW version (which i got)... I assume with gufiaks good work he has modified the 1.20FW so if i already have the startdard 1.20 are there any bugfixes/differences in gufiaks ATM? or should i just leave as is for now?
any info/opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys,
Brett.

No, Gufiak is still working on 1.09 modification! There are no major improvements in 1.15 and 1.20 (except the known RGB bugfix) over 1.09, so it would be lot of effort for nothing if he starts to implement all hacks for these new firmwares. Simply stay with your stock firmware, if you don't miss anything, or flash with Gufiak's modified 1.09. A brandnew version should be available soon, so I recommend to wait for this one wink.gif

But noone should use it to upgrade his player. Use firmware attached to my post. It's cutted and modified to CD upgrade so it's safe. Full backup could kill the player or make that some functions could stop working.

Of course it's v1.20

This v1.20 firmware is an ENGLISH firmware?
It'll work with a canadian DV-588 ?

Two questions.

1. Gufiak - can you tell us when your new firmware will be finished.
2. General - i thought using spdif is pure digital sound. But when i try changing volume, audio-changing with equalizer, bass-boost, pitch, .... or any other features the work also in the spdif-signal.
So isnt digital signal real digital or everytime digital-->analog-->changes-->digital altered and so less quality. Cant the DV-380 play pure digital audio-sound without quality loss

Hey sub,
I went ahead and flashed it before i read your reply, but i have the 1.20 version so i can always go back to that...
so with gufiak's 1.09 FW is the rgb bug fixed that you mentioned or not....?
And also i don't know if it is a bug in the 1.09 or just me but for some reson i can't chapter back when watching dvd's just goes back to the beginning of the current chapter even when i double press and it would usually go back to the previous chapter it doesn't, just goes to the beginning of the current like i said... has anyone else came across this?
Thanks again.

brett134,
as the RGB bug- nope, it's not fixed in Gufiak's 1.09 modded FW...
it's been fixed starting with official FW 1.15 only

Hi.
I has tested the new ver 1.20 playing the divxtest and only find next:
- "Fixed?" the bug when playing OGM with audio 5.1. Before, the player crash an block itself, and the only way to unblock was unplug the AC cable. Now, the player continue crash (big deal) but just push "stop" o "on/off" button to unblock. The OGM with audios 2.0 playing ok.
- One new bug added. When choose one file front the menu; during the process of loading, the black screen with the pioneer logo appear with a silhouette to the left front the file menu for a few seconds.
- The problem with the packed bitstream still remain.
- Still no playing formats like wmv, rm, mov, asf, etc.
- One more. I dont know if i wrong but... with the older version 1.09 some divx and dvd videos playing looking pixeled (some big squares appear forming the image slightly) but in the ver 1.20 this effect almost dissapear and the image look more clear. All this tested by the RCA yellow output.

Sorry by my english too.
martyras
I am testing the 1.20 version and I think they have made improvements on the mpeg4 decoding. Previously, the player had some hard time decoding some xvid encodings but with new version, it seems to handle them better. I'll keep testing.

Hi guys!
First of all I am a total newbie to this kind of stuff and want to buy my first DVD-Player. I want to buy a DV-585A and since yesterday am reading your forums! I have to say that I am very impressed by your work!!!
Now I have some questions and hope someone can help me.
1. I dont understand what the CPxxxx is. I have no clue..... Does it matter when I watch my Divx without subtitles??? Does the CP settings have any influence on normal bought DVDs?
2. I live and want to buy this player in Japan. The japanese Version of this player has no Scart but instead a D1 connector. Japanese format of conector for visuals only (no sound line) with near Component quality. The question is if the modded firmware has any influence on the visual output formats and whether I can use the moded firmware.
3. Remote control. Could it be that my remote control will not function after flashing if its not identical with the european one?
There is no official FW available here in Japan so it is really essential for me to know if I can use the modded firmware before I try flashing my drive. It is also not possible for me to get any serial cables for mobile phones over here to backup the firmware on my player.
Pic of the backside of my player:

Hi Gufiak,
many thanks for the 1.09.02

Only a question:
how can I search a MP3 file in a CD using disk navigator?
We can use only the arrows up and down or we have some other special function in 1.09.02?

Thank for your help,

Talkdoc
Hi All,

For starters, thank you all for this wonderful forum and all the fantastic support and information it provides.

I am an American currently working in mainland China and last week I purchased a Pioneer DV-3800-G which, according to Pioneer Asia Support (Pioneer Gulf FZEs <support@pioneer-uae.com>), uses the same chip as the DV-380 (MTK1389FE). It came with FW version 1.20 and, as others have reported, it did not recognize .srt subtitle files although it had no problem with .sub files. Last night, I changed the FW to 1.09.02_gufiak_subz3ro_rev.3 with great success: it now recognizes and loads .srt files and I love the other improvements (thank you so much Gufiak and Subz3ro).

What I found interesting, with the mainland Chinese version of FW 1.20, is that although it reported Region 6 (China), in fact, the player was region-free in that it played all my Region 1 DVDs that I brought from home with no problem.

I am attaching the Chinese (Mandarin)/English version of 1.20 in case anybody wants or needs it for anything (this file was sent to me directly from Pioneer Asia Support).

Thanks again for all the help and advice.

Doc
gufiak
Talkdoc, well, I've checked this firmware and this is exactly the same firmware as one posted before. They've got the same size and the same checksum smile.gif You've got region free player because this setting is stored in other memory -> eeprom which is not cleared during upgrade. I'm not sure but you should still be able to change language to chinese. Correct me if I'm wrong.

taqman04, only arrows.

koba,
1. If you are watching divx without subtitles then you don't need to use any codepage. This is only for divx/xvid subtitles. DVD subtitles are bitmaps so codepages are not used in DVD movies.
2. Probably not.
3. Your RC should work without problems.

flintstone, on which player you've got this region menu? PM me.
Talkdoc
gufiak, Chinese is not an available option under OSD language but it is a second choice under the Audio, Subtitle and DVD Menu Language options.

You must be correct regarding the player being programmed as region free in the eeprom because after installing your firmware with subz3ro's revisions, the player displayed "Region 0" even though I never set it, per instructions here, by pressing the Enter key for 5 seconds--it simply defaulted to that (yet, under version 1.20, it reads Region 6 but is nevertheless Region Free). To the best of my knowledge, all DVD players distributed in mainland China are set as region free players: my LG DVD player, purchased on the mainland, is also region free.

One difference I am aware of between the FW I posted and the earlier one is that after installing mine, the OSD language defaults to Mandarin (and then English is the second language choice listed under each of the four language options).

Doc

PS. Upon further examination, there is a second choice under OSD language: it is not labelled but rather distinguished only by a single hyphen or underscore character. If you select it, the entire OSD menu changes to gibberish (unreadable characters). Based on what you wrote, I am guessing, as is the case with the other three language options, that this second choice under OSD is meant to be Chinese as well, but somehow the font associated with this menu choice is either damaged or somehow unreadable (and I have not tested the integrity of the Chinese language font under the other options). I should also add that after installing your firmware with revisions_3, the OSD defaulted to this unreadable language and had to be changed to the first choice, English, under OSD language.
koba
Gufiak: Thank you very much for your Answers. I think I will try the modded firmware after I bought the Player.

Hi,
I have the 383 DVD and want to update it with the 1.20 FW but with fonts from an older FW (Hebrew fonts in v1.20 are too small).
I poked around MTKreMaker and saw it is quite easy to replace elements but I can't find out how to export the fonts from the older FW (I have the file).
I also tried MTKReplacer but it reported an access violation when trying to save.
Perhaps there a different tool?
Can any of you experts help me out here?

Hello there, go to MTKreMaker, open the FW with the font you want, go to data part/OSD/OSD 1 visuals/fonts/, choose the font you want to export, right mouse click and choose "save".
Then open the firmware where you want to put the font to, repeat the same process to go to the fonts, right mouse click the one you want to be replaced, and click "replace" (and choose the font file you saved previously, of course)

Enjoy your subs now peacefingers.gif

@gufiak

Hello my firend, your modification named "1.09.02_rev4_multilanguage" is excellent except one frustrating thing death.gif
Everything works fine but when I insert a DVD movie in player Pioneer 380K, the screen of menu is complicated, selection bar is not right that should be...if i hold num5 then I got 4:3 pan scan and then menu is great, but when i go to movie i must back to 4:3 letterbox because it's better mode for movies...I think that this is bug in this version...
I put an original firmware of Pioneer and everything works fine in this problem, I start a film menu is great - it is automaticly pan scan, and when I watch movie it is automaticly letterbox...
Can you fix this "bug" ?

Greetings

After coming across this board topic, I decided to buy the DV-383. Unfortunately in Taiwan some of the options ascosiated with the control of the player are different to other regions, but using the great fw's provided here I was eventually able to get region free and can now play almost anything. A huge thanx to Gufiak and subz3ro for the tremendous work and time you guys put into upgrading this firmware! I am now using subz3ro's 3rd revised firmware and everything is great! biggrin.gif

My problem is that I use many .srt subtitle files that contain Chinese tradditional (Generally Big5 ,ocassionally Unicode) encoding, and am unable to view anything but gibberish when I load the asosciated avi. confusedsmiley.png

I was really hoping that someone here could provide a firmware that has support for this encoding or that it could be possibly added in a future release. peacefingers.gif

If anyone could helpout on this or provide the details on how to add this to the dvd sub reading capability...it would be fantastic.
Thanx again for providing the firmware and I really hope someon out there can help on this. tongue.gif
gufiak
MKsat, it will be fixed in upcoming version.

cybermessiah, pioneer supports only CPxxxx encodings, nothing more. There is also a problem with fonts because this firmware doesn't support chinese fonts.

Thank you gufiak for you answer, I hope that version will be soon biggrin.gif

If you're not very technical I don't recommend updating the firmware too hasty without doing any research / reading.

Most of the information is available on this board, but spread over different topics. So be sure to check them.

Before you're going to experiment with firmwares you should read all the posts and instructions very carefully. Also, double check you're using the correct firmware for your player.

Doing things wrong could void your warrenty.

So, to avoid unnecessary problems, do some research before you try anything and make sure you really understand what you're doing.

The warranty is void if it's a firmware cause. If the shop doesn't accept it, you'll have to use the serial cable.

Yikes - looks like he may have fracked up his player.

I was being a bit flippant when I told him to work for it and read the thread. I think maybe I should have pushed the point.
No-Worries
Shit happens when you dont have the time to wait for the player to do its thing.

There was some talk of the new 1.20 official firmware handling some avi files better than old firmwares.

Has anyone tested this to see if it's the case? I'm using Gufiak's firmware. I occasionaly get blocking on xvid files, but put it down to the original encoding.

The blocking I get isn't enough to get me to go back to official firmwares. The improved filebroswer on Gufaik's fw is the clincher for me.
