Hey no-worries,
1.21? Do you have any details on the changes for this? have they happened to fix the packed bitstream support problem by any chance?
Thanks mate.
Brett.

No, as usally they dont say anything.
When I ask about a changelog they say, sorry but there no such info.

Hi there,
I have some maybe stupid questions, but I could not find the answers here:
- I updated my firmware with the modified (Gufiak) one, which went very well. Except my player still is region 2!. It still throws out the region 1 disks with "wrong region" msg. What do I have to do in order to make it regionfree?
- Is the (mp3) sound quality affected by the firmware at all? With my old Yamakawa the firmware affected the sound quality: in some cases it became worse, in some it became better.

Thx in advance!!

Try to hold the enter button for a few seconds until your player shuts down.
It should be region free then.

(The following might look a off-topic, but IMHO they are related to the thread's topic smile.gif )

@all: AFAIK, 380 can handle somewhat OGM (Ogg Media) files. The question I'd like to make is whether 380 with 1.09.02 (rev4 for example) can play succesfully an .ogm with embedded subtitles (as a stream that is) and disable/hide subs without problem.

The reason I'm asking is that according to the DivxTestCD v2 the Pioneer 380 can't play subtitle streams in .ogm files, with the official 1.15 firmware (see test results here). Can someone try the divxtestcd (test CONT-5F) or an ogm file that has selectable subtitles and report whether they work or not on 1.09.02?

@Zavlakas and other Greek users here: Same question, when the subs are Greek...

@Users of official versions higher than 1.15 (ie: 1.20 or 1.21): can you run the divxtestcd v2 and report the results on their site

Most likely results will be the same, especially for xvid with multiple GMC warpoints (afaik no 1389-based played can decode GMC-multiple-warppoints videos). For nero digital see below. As for packed bitstream, well that's the one issue that might have been resolved or fixed to a degree. Let's wait and see.

Might be the same chipset, however ND support might extend only to MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile (ASP) ie Xvid and Divx support. No MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC) profile support, since it requires considerably more power from the chipset. And MPEG-4 AVC is the single reason to go for ND. But not if you intend to play them on standalone players atm, not many of them exist.

Thx!!! That was the tric indeed. Now I can enjoy my Marx Brothers dvd's again. Thx!. The sound and the firmware question though anyone???

Then something amazing: I just found out that I can affect the key in which MP3's are played by pressing < or > for a while. As a musician that is great, because it makes it very easy to play along... This however brings me to the following question: is there a list of all the key functions explained for the DV-585?

Thx again

MP3 quality is not affected.

For a list of what you can do with the modified firmware go to: Pioneer FAQ choose the player then click Firmware.

Is there any way to extract the file browser of gufiak firmware and put it into the 1.21, using MTKReMaker? or if you prefer, is the 'browser data' placed in a specific zone, in the BIN file?
No-Worries
Yes you can use MTKRemaker to extract the filebrowser from Gufiak and insert it to the original 1.21, but the text in the filebrowser is not placed at the same spot in original firmware as i Gufiaks. So you have to rework the filebrowser in PaintShopPro or any other grafic program or hope that someone will help you do this.

Is it possible to use MTKRemaker to edit or change wallpaper on Gufiak's 1.09 fw?

How do i get back to mpeg4 playback if i hv selected mp3 playback? currently i hv to stop/open and close to select mpeg4. Cant i jump directly to mpef4 playback while am in mp3 playback mode ?

Hi,
I have 380 with FW. 1.09.02_gufiak_subz3ro_rev.3.zip and in last few days I have problem with dissapering titles on DivX in case Pause or FF is pressed during playback. In some cases hitting pause/play again fix problem but in most cases doesn't. Is it problem of subtitle format or something else? Any fix?

A1: This is a known bug in all firmware versions and it could be workaround with this trick: After FF or FR you should press pause and then play instead for just play. This works everytime for me. If you loose the sub you can always pause and the skip one fram forward and continue the playback to get the sub back.

A2: this solution works but not always. Sometimes pressing play after pause is not enough. In this case use this sequence of keys: pause, ff, play. After that subtitles will appear in each case

Except one 'bugfix', the differences are only cosmetical.
If you don't encounter problem with jerky playback on showing subtitles with Gufiak's reference FW, there is no need to use my modification then wink.gif

It's because you have a PAL TV (with Multisync capability), and you chosen option 'Multisync' in Settings for DVD player as well. Furthermore, you are playing content in '23.976' fps format, where DVD player toggles mode NTSC for your TV. While NTSC is 480 lines and PAL is 576 lines, there is considerably 'big' difference if the File Browser picture is shown in native PAL resolution, or temporary NTSC resolution (yes, the player keeps the actual playback resolution if you go to File Browser directly without stopping the playback first).
Hope it's more clear to you now wink.gif

@subz3ro
I do experience some "scrolling" effects during divx playback with subtitles (1.09.02 modded fw is in player)
Does your revision of this fw eliminates scrolling-problems?
Could you or anybody else post a link for downloading most-recent (is it ver 3? ) version of gufiak-subz3ro's fw?

Don't know what you mean by 'scrolling' effect... if you mean 'slow' drawing of BIG subtitle fonts, then this is something else... it's the question of draw routines in ARM resp. 8032 code wink.gif

Drawing of subtitles goes fine.

No, i mean that playback itself, when large portion of picture are "in moving" (like, when camera is rotating and recording a panorama or similar, and not when large parts of pictur are still) goes smooth and then, for a moment stops or slows. Especially when playing XviD on 23.976 fps.

Do you know the number of that test? ogm+subs playback then I can tell you how it did behave.
But if its a No it didnt play at all, like you see the file in the filebrowser but when you click it to play the screen goes black and , sometimes you heard the sound and sometimes nothing and you actualy needed to open the tray to get back in to the filebrowser.

I havent done the test with Gufiaks firmware as they only want original firmwares to be tested at DivXtest.com

I have another question: What does "progressive scan" means, and why "progressive scan"'s mark on dispaly is in red (annoying) color?

You speak English, you have the Internet, next time you can use Google and you will find the answer to your question.
Now, progressive scan is the feature that doubles the number of lines that DVD sends to TV (maybe it is not very technical explanation, but it's generaly something like that) which results in better picture on TV. But your TV must support progressive scan, in case it doesn't it results in NO PICTURE (according to the people that tried it).

Why it is red I do not know (maybe because it is important to know that you shouldnt use it if it's not supported, maybe because somebody liked that colour...). Is it realy important ?

Well first of all I recon that the 1.20 came from an DV-383, 1.21 does come from an DV-383. It's the same firmware as in DV-380. It's just that if it has not come to Europe yet, obvius the Pioneer European Database would not have any info on it.

Some countrys Pioneer send out updated discs if asked some doesnt.Pioneer Europe do not send out anything more then pressreleases, you need to contact Pioneer in your country.
If your lucky they send you an update disc, if not you have to relie on someone else getting it for you.

Hi. I have Pioneer 588A with 1.09.02.00 Gufiak's firmware w. Pioneer Logo background. I have two questions for the knowledgeable forum:

1) How can I display Russian characters in a file browser? Unfortunately, it shows unreadable garbage for my MP3s and MPEGs named in Russian 1251. Computer reads them perfectly.

2) How can I play the whole CD/DVD with MP3s continuously? I have them organized by the directories. My other DVD Player Philips 462 plays the whole directory and then automatically starts playing the first song in the next directory and so on - therefore I can listen to the whole CD/DVD continuously. Pioneer plays the songs in the current directory and stops.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, baraka 123

Only when you play disc by Play button directly after disc with MP3 is loaded.

I would appreciate if someone (Gufiak smile.gif) could modify firmware for continuous playing MP3 files too.
Also direct access to files (or folders) through number buttons on remote control should be very, very helpfull not only for me.

Thanks

Great work on the firmware! But, I had to revert back to unmodded 1.20, because after flashing the modware I lost the PAL to NTSC converter function on my DV-588A-S. I inserted a DVD with 4 PAL avis on it and they played scrambled. (They played fine before and do again now that I've reverted the firmware.)

The main things I want the modware for are the long filenames (!), the packed bitstream capabilities (although easy to work around with MPEG4 Modifier or Virtualdubmod), and the subtitle functionality (although less crucial to me since I can always burn the subs onto the avi file with my custom settings in virtualdubmod) --- but I don't want to lose the ability to play PAL files/discs.

Any ideas?

Also, if there is another version of the modware in the works, some things I'd love to see are:

1) The same memory functionality for MPEG4 files that DVDs have -- ie. after the player turns off it still remembers your place, or even better, it remembers it even after ejecting the disc (it does this for regular DVDs). Don't know if this is possible. If not, a workaround might be...

2) Ability to turn off/on the auto-shutdown feature. That way you could just leave the player on with your disc in it and it wouldn't lose your place.

3) In the meantime, I use pen+paper and the time search function. Either way, it would be great to have a single button that takes you to time search, since I'm sure so many of us use this function a lot.

Once again, thanks for all your efforts!

Salut Gufiak !

Mon but, si c'est possible : dézoner le lecteur Pioneer. Il est en zone 2 et s'obstine à y rester.

Merci !
