Did anyone experienced this before?

I was playing a SACD. Finish playing, I did not turn the player off and the player turned itself off automatically after a period of time. However, I was then not able to turn the player back on. (tried using both remote and the front panel button.) The player just like dead. Only get back to normal after unplug the power and then replug it in.

Hey guys, im pretty new at all this dvd player firmware stuff... ive just brought a pio dv-686a and would love to upgrade its firmware, but no matter what i do it just wont work. I burnt the .BIN like i have seen in instructions on the forum, inserted the CD into my player and it just says the disc is unreadable, the player will not detect any firmware is on the cd at all.
Could anyone please tell me what im doing wrong or give me another set of burning instructions. I have no idea. Thanks guys. smile.gif
No-Worries
make sure the lable of the (data)disc is PIONEER and that the filname is in CAPITAL letters.

Or just have a look here : http://www.pioneerfaq.info/english/burn_guide.php
faultyt
hey thanks no-worries... still it will not work. I have done exactly what the faq says but still no good. Its bloody weird. Just says Cannot Play Disc. Is there anything else you can think might be going on?
Does the firmware cd have to be a DVD Disc or can it be any? Ive been tryin it with just standard discs

Use a CD-R not a DVD
No-Worries
A CD-RW will be good aswell, but a DVD will not work.
Didnt you have a look at the pics in the link i gave you? It clearly says CD-ROM (ISO).

for up/down position, i got the tip

but for the edges of each side of the TV (left and right)
the sentence is 'cut' if the phrase is too long

it is fully displayed on my computer but once read on the dvd player, it may happen that i can't see the first letter and the last letter...

is it coming from the format of the screen font used in the firmware ?

is there any possibility to change it ?

thanks
Pamelala
You could try a smaller font,
or you could load your subtitle file in the program Subtitle workshop and there you have an option to locate sentences which are too long (when I do this, I am searching for sentences longer than 44 characters. But that also depends on the fontsize you are using).

But when I have a too long sentence, the cut is only on the right (not on the left)....

1. If you ± legally downloaded files and burnt them, since it's a movie file format I think (Anyone downloads?) the menu doesn't come with it. You would need an ISO for this.
2. If you copied a real disc then there's a problem. (But I can't help)

Since you told you the files that come with it, I think that it's option one.

LePouSAT
I tried this on a movie I own personaly ...

I have the original DVD in my hands ...

unfortunately, i have hundreds of japanese animes,

it would take a while to modifiy every file

is it possible to change or add new font sizes to the firmware ?

Does the menu appear with the original on the 585A?

Are you using Gufiak's firmware? If yes, there's an option for this. It's about skipping advertising but I returned to original 1.20 so i cannot tell you.

I find that t sometimes happen with my Pioneer. What if you press Menu or Top Menu once the movie is started?

Just look a few posts higher. If you have 1.20, it's not worth upgrading.

Major Problem. Please Help!

I have a DV-588A-S with the modified firmware and an NTSC TV.

My TV Type was set to NTSC.

I just played a disc with a PAL DivX file on it with no problems. However, I stopped that, the player seems to think I have a PAL TV and the screen is unreadable.

I tried changing the TV Type settings and restarting the player, but the screen is still unreadable (player thinks it's PAL) with no disc inside, a PAL disc inside, or an NTSC disc inside. In other words, it's letting me change the setting back to NTSC, but it's having no effect.

I also tried reverting to unmodifed firmware (1.20) but the same problem existed. I then went back to the modified firmware, but still have the problem.

I tried unplugging the player, that didn't work either.

Any ideas? Please?

Thanks!

What if you play an NTSC disc?
If you use the Y/Pb/Pr outputs maybe there's something with progressive/interlaced too.

On Gufiak's there's NTSC, PAL and MULTISYNC. Try to play with all of them. I'd try to switch to Multisync, PAL and then NTSC or something like this.

All right, it's fixed. While trying to reset the TV type before, I tried an unplug. I somehow managed to unknowingly loosen one of the componet plugs (Y). So, after fixing that and getting the settings right it's working.

Thanks. Your mention of component outputs made me think to check.

Oh my god... i just realised something. Maybe this might be my problem. I brought a DV-686A-S. On the box it says its a DV-686A-S but.... on the actual dvd player it says its a DV-676A. Ive been ripped!!! Would this be the reason why none of these firmware cd's arnt working? Please tell me it is so, because it has been driving me nuts for the last couple of days. Would this firmware work on a DV-676A?

hahaha thank you so much dude for your help... problem solved. I went back with my DV-676A and got the one i was supposed to get (DV-686). Took my new dvd player home... first shot with the firmware disc.... done. All good
thanks for your patience and thoughts on what to do with my problem... Next time i'll make sure i dont buy a frikkin dvd player from a dodgy shop smile.gif dirty bastards hehe
Great firmware update... wrapped with it.. keep up the good work guys smile.gif

I tried to upgrade to original 1.20 but no luck, the menu from my DVD+R DL is not beeing displayed ...

Same thing with the very latest updated firmware from Gufiak ...

This disc is 100% playable on my pc dvd drive, on the dvd burner with the menu working !

I don't understand anything ... Maybe a small problem for the 585A to play correctly some parts of DVD+R DL ...

Hi all! 1st post...
I'll install the new firmware, but have a few of questions which I couldn't find answers to in the forum. Maybe I'm just blind, confusedsmiley.png

1) will the original fw be "saved" in the Pioneer 380, so that I can reset if I need/want to? How do I do this?

2) will the fw make the player region-free? Is there any way to do this at home? The hardware store charge me to do this for me with a "special remote"... wink.gif

3) and, (this may be a stupid question, sorry) when I watch Sopranos from Bittorrent, the picture "moves twitchy" (slinghtly hangs) when things move fast (e.g. high-action scenes). Is this a size/quality problem, or could the fw be improved in reading/playing Divx files? Here's a quote from http://www.divxmovies.com/faq/#4.5
QUOTE
There exists a workaround called DivX AntiFreeze, which once installed will avoid the permanent freezings during playback in Windows Media Player.

4) What about updating for recent Divx codecs, is it possible to do this without updating entire fw?

Thanks for a great forum, and fw!

No, you need a cable you plug in the player to get the firmware on your computer. Anyways, you could also just download the same version on the Internet and it would work.

The firmware will : Once it's flashed, press enter in the main "Pioneer" logo window a few seconds and it will get region free. If you want to cancel this, you have to press Clear a few seconds on the welcome screen. If you don't even other firmwares will be region free.

Maybe it's a DivX format that the player has problems with? The best option until we get upgrades would be to re-encode them with settings the player has an easy life with.

antdes45, thanks for the reply smile.gif

I've updated my Pioneer 380, and it worked great! In case any Mac users were interested, I thought I'd mention that burning the "update cd" using Toast in Os X was straightforward. I simply selected 'Data' disc, and dragged over the .BIN file. Then, after naming the disc PIONEER, I clicked 'Burn'. No special settings.

I was concerned as to whether the hidden Mac files (.DS_Store, Desktop.DB etc)--which I don't know how to avoid being included on the disc--would confuse the DVD player. However, it didn't, so there were no problems.

Hi all!

Is there any sign of firmware that will solve the problem of twitchy NVOP, that is, "packed bitstream" movies?

Because I know that there are other players with the sam chipset that support this feature (Philips 5100, Sigmatek XM-400). I would buy either of them but Philips doesn't have optical out and Sigmatek is not available here in Croatia.

So I'm stuck with Pioneer for the time being and it's getting tiresom to push every single avi file I get through mpeg4modifier and reburn the DVDs.

Hi all. First Post...

I went through all the Post and Gufiak's firmware 1.09 update. Am I right in assuming that if I flash my DV-585A with this firmware (currently 1.20), and hold the enter key, it will make the DVD player region 0? Also, do I need to turn the player off at the wall immediately after it goes to region 0 as someone suggested?

If I set the region to 0 and upgrade to 1.20, will my player remain region free or will it go back to region 2?

I am very happy with the current settings from 1.20 so want to convert player to region free but retain 1.20.

Oh - and what precautions do I need to take to ensure I dont end up with a "dead" player on my hands?

Any replies/assistance will be most welcome!

It stays region free if you change the firmware again. If you want to return to not region-free, you put back Gufiak's firmware and hold Clear a few secs before re-flashing the original firmware.

Many many many thanks for the help, especially a big big thanks to gufiak for the firmware.

However - must warn that Sonic Recordnow (which i got bundled with my laptop) was not good enough to burn CDs properly... it doesnt have any ISO only mode. Downloaded the trial for Nero 7 and burnt both 1.09 and 1.20, downgraded to 1.09, changed to multiregion and upgraded to 1.20.

Wanted to stay on 1.20 as I am using component video on progressive through my amp. The picture in 1.09 was - for the lack of a better word - awful, using the component connection. On the 1.20 it is brilliant and clear...

Many many many thanks once again to Gufiak. I was having so much trouble making the player region free given that I dont have a PDA... This was soooo easy - took all of 15 minutes. This was on my DV-585 dvd player.

Thanks.

I've run into a strange problem. In the past, I have made some firmware up/downgrades and modifications with mtk-remaker, everything worked.
Now, I've tried to update the player with a modified v1.20 firmware, and it displayed "Can't play disc". I tried to upgrade with different official firmwares, and they worked.
But anything I save with mtk-remaker (even unmodified fw's!!!), just "can't play disc"

What could be the problem ?

Might be how you burn it on the CD, make the name of the firmware in CAPITAL letters, even the *.BIN.

If you only have sound and no pic it usally means that the resolution of the files it to big.
the maximal resolution for DVD/DivX/Xvid is 720x576 (PAL) /720x480 (NTSC).

EDIT: The DVD player is not a COMPUTER, stop comparing what you can play on your computer and what you can play on the DVD player.

Actually, 720x576 is not maximal resolution for Pioneer players smile.gif. I do not know exact maximal resolution, as I never tested that, but in fact we have a number of reports, that films encoded with a little bit higher resolution (cca 758x...) were successfully played on Pioneer dvx players smile.gif
