Finally the big moment is here. Those who have been waiting for the new Volkswagen Eos can now purchase it; for the time being it can be ordered only in Great Britain, the first buyers really having it in July.
The much-publicized delay was caused largely by a wind-noise glitch. Ironically, Eos was named after the Greek goddess of the dawn and of the wind. The problem was solved: the excessive wind noise was eliminated and the Eos will be produced starting with March.
Based on the new Passat platform, the new coupe-cabriolet will be available in Europe with a range of engines between 113hp - 250 hp. Eos has a pretty rich standard equipment: ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), air-conditioning, front and side air bags, 16-inch alloys, CD-player, electric windows.
Full opening and closing of the metal roof are very speedy, taking around 25 seconds from the first "clack" to the last "click" (in this way the wind or the rain cannot mess with your hair). When the roof is open, a volume of 205 litres is available; when closed, 380 litres of stowage space are on offer. When closed, the curved roof forms part of a classic coupe body shape, when lowered the car takes on the appearance of a purpose-built convertible.
Volkswagen said that the new car is placed between the Golf and Passat classes, opening up a new sub-segment in the market.
