Thanks Dinderi. I followed your instructions for burning the CD, and the firmware from Hakan is working. The fonts are bigger, only a smaller problem because the letters are at the bottom of the screen, so close to the edge, that I can't see the whole letters(for example "j"; "g" and so one). Can this be resolved, or I need another firmware for this problem?

Try to find out what "chassis" is your TV-set. this is a code that looks like ICC-20 or so. It may be written in user's manual. Then using this chassis, find Service Manual for your TV. There, it is written how to enter Service Mode (usually, it is sequence of keys, to be pushed on TV's panel, or remote control). In service mode you may change picture's settings. I think, the picture in your TV, is set too big, and it needs to be set smaller. That is why, part of a picture is out of the screen.
I suppose, Hakan used in his mod, specific divx subtitle window settings, that should fit every TV.(I did not check it, but I'm more then only "suppose"

) Even those, with the picture set wrong. If those settings are, as I think so, subtitles should be displayed, as on those images:

2 years ago, TV-set on the picture, also had a problem with cutting bottom of subtitle's letters. Now it looks a bit different.
Otherwise, to set subtitles higher, you need to open fw with MTKWindows, find window 0x10 and relocate it up. But if I would have that problem, I would check the picture's settings, first. This will make your movie watching, much better.
Regards
BTW. This is, how subtitles should be displayed, if using my mod for dv-393. Those pictures was taken, to show the subtitle window setting, in Dinderi's mod YDA6824A v.2.0 for Pioneer dv-393.

In new mod, the position of divx subtitles will be a bit up. In this mod fw, changing subtitle's colour by user is not possible. You may replace fonts for bigger using MtkRemaker and MTKFontCreator.

What shadow you mean? Font's outline or background?
And which Hakan's Fw you worked on?
Dinderi, your special version contain the CP1252 code for spanish language? or I have to load the other version?

Hello all,
Firts of all- thank you for this great work you are doing with developing and testing FW-s!
I am very exited about Pioneer DV 393 and thinking of buying one also for itself.
But first I would like to know your opinion about a "Picture Shift problem: the bottom few lines of the picture are misplaced at the top of the screen", which have been reported on PAL movies- for regular PAL DVD-s and DIVX.
The article about this topics is avaialble here:
http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=61831(at chapter "Video playback: PAL movies")
This review is written on DV 490. But as far as it is very similar to DV 393, I would like to ask your opinion- have you ever saw this "Picture Shift Problem" also on DV 393?
Thank you in advance!
dinderi

This problems on dv-490 has nothing to do with dv-393. This is a problem with picture, passed through HDMi.
dv-393 has not got HDMi

Hello Dinderi,
Thank you for promt answer!
Sorry- one more "stupid" question: do the modified firmwares (HAKAN V4.0 (26-01-2007) and Dinderi v.2.0) support also Estonian characters in DIVX subtitles: Ü Õ Ö Ä ?
Thank you in advance!
dinderi
Feb 12 2007, 11:19
I guess Estonian is the same code page (CP1252) as Sweadish, Finnish, German etc. So, CP1252 is supported by every 'international' mod fw. Hakan's and mine.

Dinderi: I can confirm that Estonian characters (ÜÕÖÄ) are displayed correctly with Your V2.0 international firmware.
However there are other problems. The font is still way too small. actually theres virtually no visible change in font size compared to original Pioneer firmware. I also have a DV470 with firmware by MTZ and font there seems to be a lot bigger.
secondly on a Thomson 20" LCD TV only half of bottom line of subtitles are visible and it doesnt change even if i select 16:9 mode on TV, subtitles get lifted up but bottom line is still cut...

Hello everybody, my first post here.
I have Pio 393 and one big problem that has not been mentioned by anyone. On some of divx files subtitles just dont get displayed. They can be selected - you can see there is one because it shows "Subtitles 1/1" but they dont get displayed. And what is more strange if I rename the same files (avi and sub) in some other name it might get displayed. There is no rule that I discovered which names work and which dont. One example is
Movie name CD1.avi
Movie name CD1 hrv.sub ------- not displayed
and on same dvd...
Movie name CD2.avi
Movie name CD2 hrv.sub ------- displayed
P.S. I just wanted to say thanks to everybody doing the hard work on this fws, great job.

I had experienced similar problems with .sub format subtitles on 2 different divx movies.

Some videos have realy hard parameters. This may be video or audio virable bitrate or so. F.e. 6+ chanel AC3 audio is such a hard parameter that makes problems to be properly handled by Pioneer. Usualy this is seen when showing (or not showing) subtitles. This problem apeared already on dv-380/585 and seems to be a bit bigger on 393. I use 393 for last couple of months. I also noticed that generaly, dv-393 is worse than older Pioneer's players. Has much more problems in hardware and software. It looks like Pioneer seem to join the group of low quality/low price DVD player's producers.
Also, may be fw for dv393 was written the way that works with subtitles even worse than dv380/585. Every information about those bugs would be very apreciated.

That is the strange part the audio/video parameters are the same for working and not-working file, checked with gspot. Logical conclusion is that there is something wrong with not-working sub, but I just can't find anything except that in some cases renaming both (video and subtitle) could make it work, again no rules.

Could it be that the .sub file that can not be displayed is in Unicode?
You can check it out: open the .sub file using Windows notepad, then select File -> Save As...
In the dialog box that opens, check out the value of the "encoding" pull down menu at the bottom of the dialog box: if it's not ANSI, then the file is Unicode and it won't be played by the pioneer.
In this case to correct the problem, save the file as "ANSI" and then check if it is played back by the pioneer properly.

To: YeahYeah,
If you have problems with FFW and FR, then it could be tied with keyframes....may be the Divx video is not formated in good way?
I would suggest you to do the following: open the video file with Nandub, in opening window select "Pop up extended options" and then in new window select "Re-derive keyframe flags". And then open the video.
Now it will process around 0,5....1 hour with opening the wideo and setting up the keyframes. After that you can save the video.
Now you can try, if FFW, FR and subtitles work work better.
Also, make sure that you have no packed bitstream in video.
Hope, it helps.

Feb 17 2007, 05:14
if you have problems with FF/REW/GOTO (and maybe disapearing AUDIO) the reason is that some begginers (including coders) use the buggy Nandub.
The solution is to open the movie with VirtualdubMOD and resave the movie (with direct stream copy)
and NEVER USE NANDUB!!!

Method: I checked both original firmwares: Y3A01160 and YDA6824A; I checked both modded FWs - Dinderi v.2.0 and v.3.0. I used 3 types of ".sub" subtitle files: MicroDVD.sub, SubView.sub and SubSonic.sub.
Conclusion: every fw, supported only MicroDVD.sub files. SubView and SubSonic were not supported.
So, I belive Thandruil may used subtitles of not supported format, or made subtitle filename different than movie name.
There is no difference between original and modded firmware in .sub files .support

I accidently installed the latest 490 FW on my 393. It works fine but will not upgrade to any 393 FW anymore. (Tried with many FWs, also original one, always getting "Can't read disc" error)
Is it possible this is because I installed the 490 FW? Can I recover from this state?
